Cant get the nasb to download on my iphone; what am i doing wrong?
thanks
Hi Sam
What happens when you try and download?
Is this over wifi or a cellular network? Do you have good and reliable signal?
I have it successfully downloaded on my iPad so, unless there is an iPhone specific issue, this should work.
Graham

trying it on wifi and had no trouble with anything else. is searching NSAB the right thing to put in the search box?
thanks Graham for the reply

The translation is the New American Standard Version Bible or NASB. You have twice typed NSAB. Could that be your issue?
Edit: I should have written "Bible" instead of "Version."
alabama i havant tried NSAV but i will try it. thanks
alabama i havant tried NSAV but i will try it.
Sam - I did not mean for you to try NSAV but NASB!

Want to give a couple of screen shots?
By the way, how many resources are showing up in your library? What base package do you have?
i have platinum and 1718 resou

alabama i am not understanding what you are trying to show me here
OFF THE SUBJECT ALABAMA BUT DO I NEED "JAILBREAK" FOR MY PHONE. REMEMBER THIS IS ALL NEW TO ME AND I DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH AND PRETTY WELL KNOW WHAT JAILBREAK IS ALL ABOUT BUT WILL I NEED/USE IT?
I was wondering if you could give me some screen shots such as what I have provided here. It would help to trouble shoot. It would be good to see one with your full resources listed, and another with it filtered for NASB. By the way, the iOS spell checker has a tendency to change NASB to NABS.
i will have to do some thinking on that. just recently is the only time i have even been remotely intrested in an iphone. never really seen any use for one but i am hooked.check my question above on jailbreak if you will
thanks for your help
Personally, I don't think you should jailbreak your iPhone.
Is there something specific you are trying to do? There may be better ways to accomplish what you are trying to do.
By the way, the iOS spell checker has a tendency to change NASB to NABS.
I don't know if you caught this in my previous post, but as I was trouble shooting this for you, I noticed that the iOS spell checker (Apple, not Logos) tries to change NASB to NABS. If you don't address the situation properly by clicking the "x" by "nabs", it will change to nabs and you will have no hits. Notice my two screen shots below. The first shows the iOS spell checker trying to change the spelling. By clicking the "search" button, the iOS spell checker automatically changes the spelling, resulting in no hits.
i am trying to get the most our of my iphone as i am always trying to get more out of L4.
about NASB reverting to NSBS i type in NASB i dont click on the suggestion
what did you mean above about holding down 2 buttons. what 2 buttons? the 2 buttons on my iphone?
I think that is your problem. The iOS dictionary AUTOMATICALLY changes NASB to NABS. You MUST click on the "x" BEFORE you hit search or the space bar.
Yes. To take screen shots on your iPhone, press and hold both buttons at the same time for a couple of seconds. This is not a "logos" feature but an iOS (iPhone/iPad) feature, therefore it will work with any app.
Sam - The screen shot you showed is for the "search" panel. To find your NASB you must search within the Library. In my screen shots above, notice that at the bottom, the library button at the bottom is colored blue.
alabama this is what keeps coming up. dont worry about it i will call customer service today. thanks very much for all your help and the knowledge i gained from you in using my i phone
here it is alabama. if you will notice i had to do a search for bibles.
sam
if you will notice i had to do a search for bibles.
Good. We are getting somewhere. [:)]
Did you search for NASB and make sure that it didn't change to NABS? If so, can you get a screen shot of that?
By the way, if you click on "sort by title" you can change it to "sort by recent." If you open up the NASB, it will be "recent" and float to the top of the list even without any sort of search. NOTE: When you open other books, they will float to the top. The NASB will stay near the top as long as it is continuing to be used.
the answer to the above is no. i searched for my bibles and it brought up all my bibles and i scrolled through them until i found NSAB and down loaded it. real simple and i haven't tried dictionaries or other resources but i am sure i can do the same thing. the reason i was so bent on downloading Nasb i do precept classes and we use NASB all together. i have hundreds of notes in my NASB and guess what they all came over to my i phone. what i gained most from all of this is the imfo i learned about my i phone.
thanks alabama
When I use the NASB library filter on my iPad I don't get the Bible either.
Looks like some metadata issue here.
Graham - I hate to even ask you, but could you post a screen shot? I do not have any problems accessing the NASB using NASB, with the only exceptions noted above.
Hi Alabama
Two screen shots - the first with "NASB" as a filter, the second with "New American Standard Bible"
Thanks Graham! I guess there is a glitch somewhere. I am not experiencing this however. I have tried both my iPad & iPhone. I will send an email. [:)]
Thanks Graham!
No problem

Are you still on a later beta build? Not sure whether this could be relevant.
Is there a chance that he may have updated the Abbreviated Title, so it no longer shows up?
I thought about it, but ruled it out. I am on 2.1.5 RC1, which should be the same as the current release. I did send an email with a link to this thread.
Interesting thought, but I don't think so. I would think that NASB would be elsewhere in the metadata, but perhaps not. Graham, did you change your abbreviated title?
Ironically, now that I changed this from NASB95 to New American and then back again, I lost the ability to do the search of NASB on my iPhone. I wonder if there is a join or foreign key to the data element that is lost due to the manual update and not being properly joined to the corresponding table. Curious...
Robert - I can kind of verify that changing the short name DOES have bearing in searches. I changed my NASB short name to BAMA (why not, right? [:)]). My iPad would no longer find the NASB with a search for NASB but my iPhone would. I made sure to kill both apps and let each device sync several times. A search for BAMA did indeed find the NASB on both devices. I repeated the process working backwards and changed the NASB short name back to NASB (I think it was NASB95 before), killed the apps and allowed them to sync. All returned to normal, including BAMA disappearing as a search word for the NASB.
I am really interested to know what the short name of the NASB is for both Sam & Graham.

Okay, I just deleted my app on my iPhone and then re-downloaded it. Since I am able to use the tags, Once I did this, I was able to pull up the NASB Bible without issues. I also had noticed that on my iPad showed 40 resources when I tagged them. When I looked on my iPhone before I deleted it, it only showed 20 of my 40 resources that the iPad showed and were tagged with the keyword of 'iPhone'. I was able to see all 40 resources after downloading it. I wonder if the iPhone syncing process has some bugs in the handshake it needs to make?
As below my short name for it is "NASB95"
To the best of my knowledge I have never changed this.

It would be helpful for you to look at THIS THREAD and see if its the same problem. If so, add a post for the devs to see.
In which case your issue appears to be different than the one Robert discovered. Thanks. [:)]
Just to complicate things - if I use the search string "nas" then my NASB is shown on the iPad
Not complicated at all. I had the exact same issue before I did my delete the Logos iPhone app. I was able to see the NASB bible with a New American or NAS search only. after I had updated it in L4. If I typed in NASB, it would go away in the exactly the same manner as you. Once I deleted my Logos app and resynced all of my resources, all was working just fine with no issues.
In my humble opinion, there is a striking similarity to the bug, the bug uses some of the same procedures/code, or it is in fact the same bug. If you were willing to try it, I might suggest you deleting the iPhone app, downloading it again, and then re-syncing your resources. If you tagged the ones you wanted downloaded on your iPhone in L4, then you could filter by them and use the download all button to save some time and effort. I ran into this bug by trying to see if this would work (it does, which is very nice and thanks to some of the fine folks here for helping).
Hi Robert, thanks for the response.
I agree that the problems we are describing are likely to be very closely related.
I'm not going to delete my app to try and resolve this - its not enough of an issue for me to go through the process of downloading resources again, although you are right that tagging the resources in L4 would make downloading them again a much quicker process.
... although you are right that tagging the resources in L4 would make downloading them again a much quicker process.
I can appreciate lack of need to do it now. At some point, I think it is worth doing just in case you ever need to sync the resources again. With iOS6 coming out and the possibility of a new iPhone, I think it is a good exercise for quick restoration purposes. This and the download all button make this a much simpler exercise. I also rate my resources, so I sort them as such. This allows me to pick from my most uses resources that I downloaded very quickly.
