Look up Apollos in Hastings Dictionary
This should be an easy task. I have Hastings dictionary and type apollos in the box at the top. No. I select search and want to do a simple search on Hastings Dictionary. No, because the dictionary does not appear in the list of resources I can search on. Is this even possible and if not, I am throwing in the proverbial towel as far as attempting to use the Logos app on the iPad. I spend more time being frustrated and trying work arounds than studying. I hope I am wrong in this process and have just missed a step.

Joan - Sorry, I don't have that dictionary to trouble shoot with you, but I think I can help you.

The search function isn't exactly working correctly at the moment, but I think you should be able to search your dictionary for Apollos. First, you should open your dictionary. Then, press the search button at the bottom. In the top center of the search page is a button to change the search from entire library, to individual resources/collections (note: collections have not migrated fully to sync v2 yet and work only hit and miss). In this list you should see:
- Entire Library
- Recent Resources
- Top Bibles
- A list of collections
- A list of recently opened resources.
I believe that your dictionary should be the first one in the "recently opened" section. I should tell you that I am on a beta version, but I believe this was working in the current release. I just tried it a couple of times and it is working for me. You should also be aware that the app will use an abbreviation, so you will have to do a little deciphering.

I hope my suggestion works for you. Unfortunately, I do not find the app a substitute for L4. When I need to "study," I use the desktop app. I have found, however, the mobile app to be my preferred way to read and use it daily.

Hi Joan, What I do is go to the library and call up Hastings. Then I click on search at the bottom of the screen and make sure it is on Basic search. Then I click the box upper left, which may say Entire Library and contains a list of old collections. Then I scroll past the collections and look for the Hastings abbreviation and tap on it. Then I enter Apollos in the search box and tap Search. It was the very first listing. This method isn't entirely reliable and it is rather clumsy, but works for now until sync V2 is incorporated for our collections.
Edit: Wasn't fast enough.

Yes, thanks, I found the resource given I love to figure out acronyms. I do understand that to really study I need the computer and L4. Though, it begs the question as to why even include a basic search function if I cannot somehow clear the resources from the list that grows longer every time I want to do a basic search. A delete box to check next to each item on the list would really help. Without it, I feel the negative sanction with each new search.

Hastings Dictionary
Hi Alabama, if you happen to read this do you have any information about whether in the future we will be able to just enter a word in the resource reference box and the resource jump to the reference? I know dictionaries etc. aren't indexed on our iPad but just wondering if as long as you are online if that will be possible in the future or if there are any plans for this.

I have found that collections are listed first, then resources that have been recently opened. I can see where having the collections handy is helpful.

The last opened resource is the FIRST in the "recently opened" section.

In the list I provided above, there are a few items BEFORE collections. The "recent resources" selection is not a single resource, but rather a search of ALL the "recent resources." After the list of "collections" section, there are "recent resources" listed individually. The most recently opened resource is first in that section.

I do not have any info on this, sorry. [:(]
I did think of something else, however. Although you can't search in that reference box, there is an easier way to navigate to the article you want. If you click on the "Table of Contents" button (next to the reference box afore mentioned), there should be an alphabetical listing. If you click on the letter, it will take you to the begging of that section. If you click on the blue arrow icon, it will open up a list of articles in alphabetical order.

I have been assured the syncing of collections is coming to the iOS app soon. Once that happens, you will be able to create a collection of your top few reference works. I will probably also create a collection with just AYBD, my preferred dictionary, so that it will always be in the list on my iPad.

Now, that would be a beautiful thing. Thanks to Alabama and Jerry M. who are so helpful in this forum.
