Vyrso is Crashing

I installed the app and signed in. It started to bring up the library then it simply crashed. When I restarted it, it took me back to the place where I had to sign in again. Then it crashed again. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help. This started just within the past week or so. Is anyone else having a problem?

Yes, I had a similar problem but always after crashing and bringing me back to the signing-in page, it started to work on the library preparation. Then it worked - or, if crashed again, after restarting of Vyrso app. it finished the library preparation. Then it worked fine.

What version of the app are you working with? What about the Logos app? How much space is left on your device? Have you done a FULL shut down of your device?

I am happy to hear it is working for you. It's not working for me.

I have the latest Vyrso app version. The Logos app has problems too. You and I have already covered the Logos app problems and decided to wait for Logos Support. I have a 32gb iPad. 18.4 GB are available. I have used 9.6GB. I did a full shut down of the iPad. Vyrso still does not work. The full shutdown also brought back the Logos app problem.

Bottom Line: Neither app is working correctly for me anymore. I have done every thing I know to do including your suggestions.

Before I posted the Vyrso problem, I had even reset the iPad and restored it from a backup.

    I remember now. Sorry.

I have the latest Vyrso app version. The Logos app has problems too.

The Logos and Vyrso apps are virtually identical. They are based upon the same engine. If one is having problems with the Logos app, problems with the Vyrso app should be expected as well.

In my case Alabama, Logos installed always without crashes but Vyrso always with the initial crash. It happened in my case on both iPhone and iPad. But after it finished building of the library it worked fine.

Logos Support told me that they were aware of the Vyrso problem and was working on it. During the time frame that I mentioned above, several people stated they were having problems like mine in the review of the app at the Apple App Store.

Earlier today I downloaded a new version of Vyrso from the Apple Store - this is 2.1.6 updated on 12 June 2012.

It claims that, among other things, it fixes a crash if sync fails.

If you don't have this version yet, suggest you give it a try

Graham, I tried it, but it still does not work for me.One person at the App Store tried it and it did not work. I wonder why it works for some and not others.

I was assuming that the fix referenced in the release notes (when sync fails) could have been related to the problem you were seeing. However, if the cause of your crash is different then it is understandable that this update didn't fix the problem.

Sorry - need to see what the developers have to say again,.

I downloaded and installed the latest version of Vyrso with high hopes that the crash behavior will be fixed once and for all.  Alas, it still crashes whenever the iPad is offline.

I haven't been able to use the Vyrso app for months now when offline (on the train).  I'm amazed how Logos is trying to capture the mass ebook market with an app that requires multiple uninstall, reinstall, hard reboot of iPad, and yet still crashes constantly.

I am unsure why its not working for you, but your experience isn't normal. It does, however, sound like others are experiencing the same thing. Hopefully it can be resolved for you.

I am having the same issues with both Vyrso and Logos. Both keep crashing and both are very slow.

Both were working ok, slow, but not crashing as often, before the update to 2.1.5.269  2012-05-23.

I am about to give up using Logos on my iPod Touch. It takes around 5-10 minutes to get to the book I want to read, then crashes after a few minutes and I start over. It also takes a long time to load the reading plans in Logos and crashes periodically.

No other device I have on the iPod is having problems, including other Bible Software I have needed to start using since Logos stopped working.

    ----

For Logos, here is a typical synario:

Start the App (Wait around 30 sec - 1 minute on the blue screen)

It automatically loads a book (that I may not want to read) (Wait around 2-4 minutes)

Click on the home page (Wait around 10-20 seconds)

Click on the reading schedule I want (Wait around 2-4 minutes, just for the reading schedule to open)

Click on "Today" or the passage I am on (Wait around 2-4 minutes)  - This is a common crash point, but not always

    Start Reading

    Click on "Mark Read"

Crash - It may have already crashed at any point previous, but almost always crashes at this point.

Start over with the next reading if I am behind (which I never used to be, but frequently am now since it keep crashing), or go to the next plan.

It will also randomly crash as I am reading. I go to turn the page and the app closes.

I am used to reading to my wife in bed, so now I get the Logos app started about an hour in advance while we are getting ready. Often, I can get it to where I need to be before it is time to read, but if it crashes, we start over and don't continue our book.

The same is all true for Vyrso with the obvious exception of the reading plan. Changing to the correct book takes a looong time and can often crash 2-4 times before I actually get to the book.

Logos/Vyrso is the only reason I have an iDevice and the primary way I use it. It is disappointing that it doesn't work. Again, it used to work. When the Reading Plans went down a while ago it still worked (though without the plans), but has been crashing and freezing since they started "working" again.

It would be wonderful to get this working again. It is difficult having all my books in Logos, but not be able to read them without being back tied to my computer, which I am rarely at.)

Thanks for any thoughts on ways to help.

    Hi Rob

    Some questions:

    • how much free storage space do you have on your iPod Touch?
    • are the resources you are trying to use downloaded to your iPod or are you accessing them over the Internet?
    • what sort of network connection do you have?
    • are you able to post logs after a crash? (from "Send Support Info" on the "About" page you can send a log file to your email address and then post it here)

    Thanks, Graham

Rob - It might be good for you to post a new thread since you are experiencing different issues.

My first question for you is what model / generation device do you have? Have you killed the app via the multi-touch bar? Have you done a FULL shutdown of the app? Also, have you tried uninstalling (deleting) the app? NOTE: you will lose any downloaded resources.

    Thank you for the help!!!

Here are answers to the questions:
    • how much free storage space do you have on your iPod Touch?  3.7Gig
    • are the resources you are trying to use downloaded to your iPod or are you accessing them over the Internet?  Downloaded
    • what sort of network connection do you have?  WiFi (ATT)
    • are you able to post logs after a crash? (from "Send Support Info" on the "About" page you can send a log file to your email address and then post it here) Will try after a crash

    • Model/Generation device: MC086LL  (Not sure about generation - I got the iPod when the Logos app came out)
    • Have you killed the app via the multi-touch bar?  ? Not sure what this is
    • Done a FULL shutdown of the app  I did a full shut down of the iPod. When I shut down the app I use the button at the bottom of the iPod
    • Uninstalling the app Not since having the error. I have tried this for issues in the past and it didn't seem to help, but will try again if that may help.

The bad news is that your device is older and will be somewhat sluggish anyway. The experience you described, however, does seem extreme.

Have you killed the app via the multi-touch bar?  ? Not sure what this is

I misspoke. I meant the multi task bar. When you are using an app, double click the bottom button. This assumes that you are using iOS 4.2.1 (the newest OS your device can use). When the multi task bar appears, press and hold the Logos icon. When it starts to "jiggle," push the red minus button on the logos icon.

Uninstalling the app Not since having the error. I have tried this for issues in the past and it didn't seem to help, but will try again if that may help.

It very well may. Here is what I would suggest:

    1. Try closing the app via the multi-task bar. (Since you have done a full shut down of the device, this is unlikely to help. You should learn how to do this anyway).
    2. Delete the app and reinstall. NOTE: You will lose all your downloaded resources.
    3. If a reinstall doesn't work, you may need to take a more drastic measure of doing a complete restore of the device (reloading iOS & all apps).

The only other question I have for you is how many notes/highlights do you have in L4? If you have very large note files, your symptoms could be easily explained by a combination of older hardware & large note files.

Thank you for all the help!

    Sluggish

Sluggish isn't a problem. I know that comes with the older devices. It is the crashing (after the waiting) that makes it unusable. I don't even mind doing something else while the program loads if I know it will at least usually work to read.

    Multi-task bar

I am using iOS4.2.1, but don't seem to have a multi-task bar. I tried double clicking as well as holding it down (in several apps, not just Logos), but it just goes to the main page when I double click. Perhaps my device doesn't allow that since they know it would be too sluggish with multiple apps running.

    Reinstall

I don't think I actually changed anything, but will give it a few more days to see if anything changed with the playing around and then will reinstall if things aren't improved.

    Notes/highlights

I don't seem to have any notes/highlights in my iPod. I do have some on the computer version, but don't see any of them on my iPod.

    Thank you,

    Rob

I don't know if your hardware is not supported for this feature or not. There are some users with massive amounts of notes/highlights, using the latest devices, who have crashing problems. Your answer seems to suggest that you don't have many notes/highlights. If that is the case, there isn't much reason to pursue this line of thought.

I don't think I actually changed anything, but will give it a few more days to see if anything changed with the playing around and then will reinstall if things aren't improved.

I am not sure what you mean by "I don't think I actually changed anything..." Do you mean that you don't know if the other suggestions worked? If the effect isn't immediate, consider it to not have worked!

A reinstall of the app has helped many users. This is one reason why I discourage downloading of LARGE amounts of your library. If you download a few books, a reinstall is no big deal. If you spent 8 hours downloading your entire library, you will be cursing at me now for suggesting a reinstall. If you don't have a ton of downloaded books, I would not hesitate to try this ASAP. If you are worried about knowing which books you have already downloaded, you can turn your device on to airplane mode. When you open your app, it will be offline and the only books in the library will be downloaded ones.

    Notes

As you mentioned, I am thinking my iPod may not support this feature. That's ok, I am used to mostly just reading on the iPod. I use the computer for more study purposes.

    Restart

I did shutdown the iPod and turn it back on so I will see if that affects anything. I have done it before, but will see if this helps. If not (and I will have time to use Logos later this afternoon to find out) I will reinstall. I only have a few books downloaded (learned that early on when I had to reinstall and had downloaded large commentary sets)

Ditto.  The app starts up on my iPod Touch, displays some books and the message "Loading library data".  The loading bar looks to be at 100%, then crash !

Hard to believe this got thru the testing process...

    Hi Rob and alabama24,

A new thread isn't needed - as already mentioned this is a known issue (and is fixed in 2.1.7 which has already been submitted to the App store).  As far as this bug making it through the testing process, I agree with your disbelief and take full responsibility.  I'm the tester for all mobile apps on all platforms and should have caught this earlier.

Thank you, Kevin, for taking responsibility for overlooking the problem.  I've been having the same problem on vyrso, badly on iPad, tho it then seemed to sort itself out, and then to a lesser extent on iPod, latest model, latest software.  So I look forward to  getting 2.1.7.

    • Am doing, but this is the second time I've done that.  As I have no wifi at home, this is a big nusiance.  Hope it will work this time.  Incidentally, my Logos app was not keen to load edition:e offline.  Library froze, but I was able to get out of it and continue using the app.  Odd.
