i just upgraded to Platinum. I'm doing a search and L4 prompts me to merge into my main index. do I want to do this or not? And is there any advantage to doing the merging? What I want is the fastest, best and easiest way to do my searching.
not sure if this matters, but I have close to 3000 resources. Does that make any difference in merging my index?
You don't need to merge the indexes at all. Once your secondary index reaches 25% of the Primary, they will merge on their own. The only thing you will notice is that the two indexes are split in the search results as "New Resources" and the regular search results.
Yes, 3000 resources will make a big difference. "Merging" your indexes really means "Re-Index everything" (at least for now). 4.0a should have some performance improvements in this area.
Yes, merging your index is the same as optimizing it. Logos will index new resources in a separate index until it reaches a certain percentage and then it will ask you to merge the separate index file(s) into one. This should maximize your searching speeds.
This can take a while, so be prepared.
