Logos Iphone app browser
The Logos app for Iphone allows unfiltered internet through its integral browser (doesn't use Safari). Is there any way to get the app without internet or a way to turn it off?

I don't completely understand your question, so please provide more information if I have missed the point.
By default, the Logos app accesses your books from the Logos server as you read each book or do a search. You can choose to download the books and then work offline. In the Library, tapping on the (i) symbol will give you the option to download a particular book. Pulling down (scrolling up?) at the top of the Library list gives the option to download all of your books. Once they are downloaded, you can enter airplane mode and do without the Internet.
The Logos app shouldn't be accessing anything other than the Logos server.
Biblia.com provides a simple browser-based version of your books.

Hi John
I think you will need to talk us through it. I just don't see how it can be done.

I don't work for Logos; I'm just a user like you, although I have used Logos for many years.
There are links from the app to the Logos website, but for me they open in Safari. I'm at a loss to know how you viewed Google through the app.
Do you have a user account with Logos? Was it the sign-up page that you were taken to?

I have had the same issue with your app and have un-installed it. I have been able to get un-restricted access to the internet through the "Share" link on the site. By clicking "Share" and then "Twitter" the Twitter login window allows unrestricted browsing to any website. By using links at the bottom of the page I was eventually able to get to Google.com.
The Logos iOS team needs to implement the native Twitter sharing built into iOS5 (and the upcoming Facebook native sharing in iOS6), in the way that most Christian Bible apps do. Here is a screenshot from the eBible.com app:
Please update us on the progress of this request.

Just as Jonathon described. Seems like a small thing but when you are trying to block any access to pornography it becomes a stumbling block. Didn't think that I'd have to "Pluck out" Logos from my Iphone though.

Have you considered the option of not sharing in this way?

Hi alabama24,
If one really makes a serious attempt, one can indeed use the links on the Twitter page and eventually might end up on an offensive website. What I would suggest for both John and Jonathan is to not let anyone you don't trust use your mobile device. To be honest I never conceived that someone intending to share a Bible verse through Twitter would then make a serious effort to view undesirable websites through the web view in Logos. There are probably much easier ways to go about it, but I have written up a case and sent it to our Development department.

I wish I had the self control and resolve that you guys have but I don't. That is why my iphone is reduced to email and only apps that don't have internet access. I have Safari turned off via restrictions , my wife has the code for that. I have Covenant Eyes on my computers with a great guy at church that is my accountability partner.
All this to because I have made a covenant with my eyes. I wish I could be like you guys but I can't and that is why I have to cutoff anything that would tempt me. I'm not being flippant, just stating facts.

I appreciate your honesty John. Hopefully this will be something that Logos can fix in the future.[:)]

Brother , I too appreciate your concern. We all have our besetting sin(s) that we struggle with. Sounds like have a grip on yours and are striving to be godly and holy. I admire you for that. Hope this can be worked out for you.

Is there any progress that has been in this area. Has anyone heard from Logos what the status of this item is? I have also found that the Google/Facebook sign-in boxes allow for unfiltered internet access. It would be helpful to see a fix for this sometime in the future so I can continue using these apps.

There are still some web views used in the app, including sign in, registration, news, guides, sharing to Faithlife, and community notes. On iOS 5+, webviews are no longer used for Twitter. It should not be possible to access any websites from any of these views, but I can't guarantee they aren't somehow abusable.

Dave, is this a recent change? I tried the app a couple of weeks ago to see if the problem was still around, and at the time it was. Has the app recently been fixed to include the integrated share sheets?
Looking forward to the day when I will have no more temptation to sin. Until then I will lock myself up like a wolf-man.

Is there any way that the iOS team can look into implementing the integrated share sheets? It is still possible to get to the internet through the share > twitter in the app.

Just just just checked for app updates. I see that the app has been updated to use the ios share sheets for twitter -- thus killing any way to get to the internet through the app (as far as I can see).
Praise God for the Logos team!

There are still ways to access web views through at least the Register link as it allows access to Logos.com and from there on out to the internet. Is there any way to have web views block access to other URLs other than logos.com, etc. or just have the views link out to Safari. This makes the app completely unusable for us that want to have Parental Controls on our devices.

To make matters worse, now when you click on the in app news, one can follow any of the links in the news and can get to the internet. Logos, please fix this as soon as you can, as I will have to keep the Logos app off my phone until then. One option is to have links open in safari, so if safari is restricted, the links can't open.
Thanks guys,
Jason

Learned that it is now possible to get to the internet by clicking on any link in the in app news section. Logos team, could you please fix it so that these links don't open except in safari? Or perhaps just remove the links from the news section on the app?
Have deleted the app until this fix happens. I hate having to delete it, I really enjoy having Logos on my phone, but purity is of more worth to me.

John, I commend you for your efforts to be godly man, and I admire your resolve to deal with your besetting sin. Everyone has some area of his life where he is weak and vulnerable to the evil one's attacks. However, few have your resolve not to sin. I am inspired by your witness and your honesty. And I will seek to be more holy today as a result of reading your post. May your tribe increase!

It looks like advancements have been made! The only thing that remains is the News Feed which still contains an embedded browser for links within the News Feed. Logos, please remove these last embedded web views for us!!!

Love this discussion and want to add my support for removing any internal links and forcing them out to Safari - wish I could get this discussion going on the Evernote forum or the youversion.com / app forum.... I support this wholeheartedly!
