Searches

I have started using Logos for Android for a couple weeks and I find it very useful to have. However, the performance of the search function is so dismal that it is a deterrent to using that function at all. I don't know how this compares to others' experience but I find the searches extremely slow. In fact, I don't think that I have completed a search so far. I got tired of waiting for the little spinning wheel to go away and something else to show up and canceled.

Help file

Alongside of that, I don't know if there is official or non-official help file for the Android version. It is clear that search does not use all the same functionalities as the desktop version. I actually do not know what I can do and what I cannot do. If there is such a help file or manual somewhere, I'd like to know.

Parsing and lemma definitions

Finally, I am looking for a not-too-painful way to function with original languages offline. I want to be able to look up parsing and definitions when I am offline but it seems that much of that functionality is online available when connected. The only workaround that I know is using an interlinear. I downloaded Lexham's but found that I had no control over what is displayed and what is not, so that's not my solution. Has anyone found a better solution?

In my experience, unless you're accessing offline resources the entire app is virtually unusable. It just doesn't work as a cloud dependent app. I have one offline Bible on it which I use for reading, and that's about it.

Previously I downloaded several gigabytes of resources for offline reading, but on both occasions they were completely wiped out by software updates, forcing me to download them all again. After the second time, I gave up on downloading resources. Since then this bug has re-occurred at least twice more, wiping out other people's downloaded resources (there's plenty about it on the forums).

So we have an app which is virtually unusable if you're online, and which may wipe out completely any resources you download for offline use. It's like playing Russian roulette.

Online search is faster than offline, but the latter is slower than another bible app I've tried.

That may account for your slow search speed[:)]. Generally:

    • long press a word and you will get an option to Search
    • from the Menu tap Action then Search and it will give you a passage search  eg. <Jn 4:5>
    • from Menu tap More then Search to get search pane with previous (saved) searches

You can always manually enter or change the search, including the type (Bible or Basic).

What you found is all you get!

Study tools and original language data for reverse interlinear bibles like ESV, KJV, NASB95 etc are only available online so you are limited when offline.

When I do a long press on a word, I get the word repeated below with a choice of "Word Study" or a search of the Bible I am in.  If I tap the "Bible Word Study," I get lots of information but no definition.  In the search box above I get the Greek equivalent of the English word I searched.  That does not appear to be what you get.  I am using version 1.1.2 on the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Bible word study is not searching! You use it to study English words or Greek/Hebrew lemmas. You should get a definition, but that is a different problem.

When I do a long press on a word, I get the word repeated below with a choice of "Word Study" or a search of the Bible I am in.

Elect to Search the bible and you will get a Search pane where you can alter the word or change the parameters (Bible/Basic + resource).

The "menu" I refer to is the menu button on your device.

Thanks, that solved the search problem.  How does my Menu button modify what is happening?

The menu button gives you application and context-specific menus! Try it.

Also try an up-swipe in different parts (verses) of a bible.

Though there is obviously not much to cover, still it would be good to have an actual help file or wiki section for Logos Android.
