Bug(?) Remembering Current Position of the Collection Dropdown List

Not sure how best to describe this ... let me try this

Sorry, do not know how else to describe this in a not so long wind form :-)

Background: I have over 300 collections, Most of these I used rules for dynamic collections ever since I migrated to Logos 4 long time ago. Occasionally (once in 1 to 3 months) I check to make sure that the dynamic collections are actually still working, should there be changes to Metadata information by Logos for good reasons (but, as users we have no clue when it gets changed) that cause the dynamic collections not to work accurately. I am slowly migrating to tagging one by one so that I can totally depend on now for my collections.

I like the way the dropdown list works for L4W as follows:

After editing the "Bible English (11P)" Collections, When I click on "Open", noticed that this collection is bolded and visible in my dropdown list. This happen to be about more than half way down my list of over 300 items. So that I can go to the next collection conveniently and quickly to inspect it.

Under L4M ... After editing any collection, if I click on Open, when the dropdown list is presented, it always shows the first item of the list (ignoring my current collection position in the list). I have to manually scroll down all the way to the next collection that I would like to inspect.

Would you consider this a bug? or at least this should be included in KS4J list of Mac vs Windows Parity list :-)

If it isn't acting the same on both platforms, then it should be added to KS4J's list. In the meantime, and forgive me if I'm not understanding what you are trying to do, but wouldn't typing the name of the collection you are looking for at the top be faster still?

I am a mouse UI type person ... for this particular operation it is more natural to use my mouse vs Keyboard :-)
I tried what you said, it sort of help ... reduced the 300+ items to just under 100, still I have to scroll to the next item in the collection as explained in the original post. You list what ever collection that has the word "Bible" but not in alphabetical order from the 1st character of the name of each collection.
If I enter the full name of the collection it will get listed ... OK, it is a good work around for the time being ... still hoping to see it work the same way as L4W. Thanks.

Glad to learn it works better on Windows. That might get it fixed at least a little bit faster.

a) You assume we remember the names of all our collections.

b) Even if we remember enough of the name to locate a particular collection, no one with 100+ collections is going to be able to go through them one by one that way. You need to go line by line in the list not to miss half.

c) Not everyone types as fast as you professionals.

d) One thing Logos has never got is that, unless they're writing a text document, Mac people tend to do almost all their work with the mouse, apart from a few keyboard shortcuts. I don't even have the keyboard right in front of me; it's normally off to the side in order to get the mouse better positioned. So before I can even start doing any real typing I have to first drag the keyboard closer (and generally reposition myself on the chair as well). Thus: faster? No.

(This, btw, is also one of the reasons L4M isn't even close to being a Mac program. In a Mac program all commands can be accessed using the mouse and the menu bar. Mac programs don't force you to spend hour upon hour upon hour researching commands in a Wiki and then memorizing them so that you can type them in a 'command bar'; in Mac programs commands are never more than one or two clicks away, easily found even if you've never used them before, and you can do almost anything you want without taking you hand off the mouse. Not so in Logos, which is nothing more than a Windows program that (sort of) works on Mac.)

I am running both Logos 4.5c RC2 on Mac and Windows.

I have Windows 7 (64bit) on top of Parallels 7.0 (most current version) ... see my signature for details.

Let me know if you need other information.

By the way if the Collection dropdown list in L4M can be more compact as in L4W that will be great, it looks a little strange with such large spacing between items now.

Using Logos 4.6a on OS X 10.8.2 replicated vertical spacing being a bit more spread out: click open for a collection shows 14 entries in drop down on PC while Mac has a bit over 12 entries. Seems Mac list has an extra pixel for every collection line.

Logos 5.1 Beta 9 on OS X 10.8.3 still shows 12 entries in collection drop down while Windows 7 shows 14.

Logos 5.1a RC 3 on OS X 10.8.4 has 12 collections listed in drop down while Windows 7 shows 14 collections.

On OS X and Windows 7: at times, drop down opens to current collection. At other times, opens to top of list.

Sorry all for bring up this very old thread here again.

In Logos Windows version the collection dropdown list almost always go back to the top of the list; having a list of 300-400 collections and having to navigate down the each time is quite a pain. This is a Windows Bug ... I thought is more appropriate to post here for continuity vs posting a new thread.

The issue on Mac is fixed. However, the current position is always listed as the last item in the drop down list. As per earlier posts, as per originally working version Logos for Windows the "current collection" is positioned somewhere at the centre of the dropdown list, so that it is convenient for people who are reviewing their collections as I have explained earlier.

Look forward to this being fixed. Thank you.
