Are there any videos for Hebrew syntax searches?

    Hi Mark.

No videos at present that I know of.

But for Andersen-Forbes, there are some search templates available. You should be able to open the template in the search query editor to examine it. You can add whatever you want to it — for example, you could add a lemma or series of lemmas to a text segment object. The hope is that examining the template queries will help in understanding how to structure queries for Andersen-Forbes.

    Hope it helps.

I have found the videos for syntax searching in Logos3 are still helpful even if the exact method for constructing queries has changed a bit....

(Coming from the perspective of having not done syntax searching in Logos 3)

When I click on a Template, I get a grayed out guide word in the search box on the left, but I neither see a constructed search nor an ability to construct a search. I expected to see a constructed search in the main window. What am I missing?

Also, when I click New Syntax Search under Query, I am not sure whether the second element goes to the right or below the first. E.g., I click Clause; do I then click the plus below or to the right of the Clause box? To the right looks correct, because the boxes are connected by arrows, but I get no results. To the bottom yields no arrows but some results, though they are not accurate.

    Mark,

There are two ways to perform a syntax search. The first is to use "file" --> "Syntax search." This will bring up an area where you can manually construct a serach by adding items (you can also pick a template from this area and see what the search looks like).

The second is to use templates (a new feature to 4.0). A template is a pre-constructed search that allows you to fill in the blanks to make it specific to what you're looking for. So, for example, say you want to find every place in the OT where יהוה is the subject. Rather than constructing that search from scratch, you could click "search" then "syntax search," then choose the template you want from "query" (in this case "subject") and enter the subject (in this case h:yhwh).

Also, different databases have different templates available, but this is the only Hebrew database.

    Mark,

What are you trying to search for?

If you look at the quick search I have below, Clause IC 1 is subordinate to Clause 1, and is added by clicking the right plus sign on Clause 1. Clause IC 2 is also subordinate to Clause 1, and must follow immediately after Clause IC 1 (because it is below it without an "anythinig" operator), and it is added by clicking the plus sign beneath Clause IC 1.

Thanks, David. You have provided the missing link. I now get the logic. I was just running a test search: find all clauses with the order Subject + Anything + Finite Verb in the book of Jonah. I put the first IC to the right of the Clause and then put the second IC to the right of the first IC, etc. Following your logic yields the correct results and shows me the logic of the engine. Thanks.
