Floating panel disables main window (Logos Bible Software 4.5c SR-3 (4.53.0.2294) )

With the current update the "Float this panel" option seems to be broken. I have tried to float several resources; e.g. ESV Bible. As soon as the panel floats the menu bar on the main screen is unresponsive and I cannot get Windows 'focus' on the main screen. It is interesting that a lot of the pop-up functions still work including the "Information" window. However I cannot highlight text in any resource, lay a cursor down in any text box, start a search, or change a tab.

This makes multiple monitor configurations pretty useless.

System: Dell Latitude laptop with XP SP3.

As soon as I posted this I revisited my Logos 4 and it began to work normally. The problem seems to be related to a Microsoft Power Tool that I have used for years: MSVDM, Microsoft Virtual Desktop Monitor. This tool was available on XP and allows me to run with 4 virtual desktops. Given that I have two monitors, that gives me 8 screens of desktop.

I have noted that with this new release that immediately after floating a panel the floated panel remains in focus and the main screen remains dead. If I visit a different screen pair with MSVDM and then return, then Logos 4 behaves normally.

I know I would have noticed this behavior before and it started just after the current update.

Further information: I am able to float the results of a Search without this problem. It only occurs on book resources.

That's interesting. With "float this panel" I have most difficulty with the Search panel and least difficulty with resources, but always have to interact with the panel before the main window becomes responsive. If I right click a Tab and use "open in a floating window" the main window is immediately responsive.

However, this is not an issue with this release as it has been observed by other users (except the Search panel). What happens when you use "open in a floating window"?

"interact with the panel" turned out to be an interesting idea.

(1) putting focus on the text to the point of making a text selection -> no help

(2) changing "display" options on a Bible -> no help

(3) turning a visual filter on and off -> solved the problem and allowed the main window to take focus

The tab based "Open in a floating window" worked fine for both book resources and a Search tab. The tab based "Open all in a floating window" also worked well. I find it odd that "Open all in a floating window" works like I thought "Open panel in a floating window" would. Instead, "Open panel in a floating window" simply opens the current tab in a floating window.

So for me, at this point, I will follow your suggestion and start using the tab based controls which seem to work well.

It looks to me that Logos has some work to do to rationalize the "panel" version of the control.
