Coming soon - Android Suite 2.0 beta 1
I'm excited to announce a new public beta of the Android Reader apps coming soon.
If you installed our apps from one of the download URLs and changed your Update channel to "beta" you'll get a notication when this beta is available. I will also post an update to the Android forum announcing the 2.0 beta 1 release.
Being that this is the initial 2.0 beta release and it contains several new features we appreciate all the community support we can get. At the same time those who expect or need the app to work perfectly should not update to the latest beta. Once you update the app the only way to downgrade to the 1.1.3 stable version if that becomes necessary is to uninstall and re-install.
Enough of the beta warnings. Here's a little taste of what's coming...
Notes & Highlighting
The first 2.0 beta release will include support for viewing notes and highlights generated from the Logos desktop app. In a later beta we will add support for adding and deleting synced notes and highlights as well.
Text Selection
In the 2.0 release long pressing on a word will higlight it and display grippers. You can use the grippers to adjust the selection region. Options for the highlighted region are displayed in a popup above the selection.
New Faithlife like UI
In 2.0 the Logos / Vyrso / Biblia apps adopt a new Faithlife like UI.
On tablets the app starts by showing a tablet optimized homepage.
On 7" readers or phone sized devices the app opens directly to the Read view. You can use the top left "App Control" gripper to access other app functions.
The 2.0 update will only be available for Android 2.2+ devices.

Sounds really good! Any word on fixing the Hebrew font display? This is a real urgent problem!

Gabe, that is amazing!
Thanks to the Android team for all they're doing.

This is good news.
I would agree Hebrew text alignment is a needed update.

incredible! I am excited to try it and now I can avoid buying an iPad. Kept wanting one kust for Logos notes and highlighting. Now I can happily stick with Android.

The current plan for 2.1 devices will be to recommend upgrading to a newer device or (since this is Android) upgrading your existing device with an updated ROM (if that's possible). If all else fails you can continue using the 1.1 release of the apps.

Looks like a nice big step for the Android app!
Gabe, will the future releases of notes you mention also have the ability to be copied and pasted as well?

While I'm thinking about it, I've got a question... will the Android app ever get a sepia display background like on the iOS app? It definitely makes reading for extended periods easier.

My Nexus 7 arrived in the mail yesterday and I've been testing the 2.0 apps on it...let me tell you, it's a delight to use.

The initial beta will not include copying note data but that's a great suggestion. Notes will display in a popup similar to what you see when clicking on a reference or footnote link.

I'm sorry for asking such a dumb question, but I can't figure how to update to this beta version. Where do you set your update channel to beta, like the first post says?
Thanks in advance,
Tim

Hi Tim,
Gabe still has not come back and announced the official release of this beta yet... As of this moment it's still coming soon as far as I can tell.

Go to Menu \ More \ About. Near the bottom is the Update Channel. Tap on that and change the entry from "stable" to "beta."

I do not have the "update channel" option. how come?

If you've downloaded the app from the market or play store you won't see the update channel. If you go to first post on the android forum http://community.logos.com/forums/t/51481.aspx, there are links to the apps that you can download. Download and install it and then you should be able to change your update channel to beta by pressing menu/more/about. Hope that helps.

thanks Michael. That worked.

Thanks for all the replies. I was not aware I would not see this option using the version from the Play Store. I downloaded the version from link in the post above and was able to change to beta update channel.
