Samsung Galaxy S phone, Android 2.3

1. Initially I had to sign-in every time I exited - OK now!

2. Menu key (or bar icon at top left) takes me from full width resource page to a vertical split page with 'menu' icons on top. Roughly 1/10 is resource text on right in Portrait view; 50/50 in landscape.

3. The "cog wheel" menu icon resembles the Android icon for Brightness.

4. All menu items are very plain

5. Back key doesn't always return to previous menu page so am forced to use the very plain "Account" button.

6. The "Search" menu defaults to Favorites and the too small icon has to be carefully selected to get Search.

7. Can't update the Channel on About page as it is covered by the keyboard panel!

I don't like the "Faithlife Study Bible like UI" as it is too awkward and subverts use of standard Android keys as used in previous UI (I don't use Faithlife, nor Biblia, so there is no point to having a similar interface).

Menu pages need a better layout and text style.

8. I don't see my notes/highlighting from L4 in ESV. NB. I have no resources on device.

9. No offline search, only online

10. The Info page from Library almost covers the remaining resource text (about 96%)

The side panel is not intended to be open while reading text, which is why so little of your resource view is visible with the panel open. The side panel is meant to be a quick way to access your tools and library without fully leaving your reading view.

Is this the brightness icon you're referring to? This is what it looks like on my ICS Galaxy Nexus and JB Nexus 7.

Regarding the Search/Favorites screen, (and in fact, most of the screens in the side panel) rather than clicking the tiny icon, you can simply swipe right and left to move between screens.

Is my "menu page" supposed to be the "side navigation bar" because I'm no longer in reading view having exited via the Android menu key? The resource text remaining is truncated and having 90% (or 50%) available for Search results, Library and other functions restricts the useful information that could be displayed.

I see! It isn't intuitive but it is more consistent use of Android features than the rest of the browser-oriented menu system.

Yes, many ICS apps seem to be moving towards this approach (eg: Facebook, Google+, Evernote)

Kindle Fire is running Android 2.3 (thankfully).

The history can be accessed in the Bible app by:

1. pressing or dragging on the upper left hand corner "App Control" icon.

2. Pressing the magnifying glass icon

3. Swiping left to the tools section

4. Tapping on the History option

If you are on an Android device with a physical back button you can also long press on the back button to quickly open the history. I tried long pressing on the Kindle Fire back button in the soft menu and for some reason it looks like the KF is not sending long press notifications for their on-screen back or search buttons. Long pressing on search in the read activity opens directly to the search window.

Yes, many ICS apps seem to be moving towards this approach (eg: Facebook, Google+, Evernote)

Please consider that a phone with that amount of text showing (10% or 50%) distracts annoyingly from the function of the "side" bar. It's not a good use of screen space.

In v2.0.4 there is no change to the "side bar" as shown above and I still can't edit the Update Channel in About!

What is peculiar is that when I tap the "side bar" icon (top left) in a resource I can get a floating Library pane (full width with borders) -> when I tap more to the right of the 2 bar icon(s). It illustrates what I mean about wasted space as there is no truncation or shortening (....) of names compared with Library in the "side bar".
