Open passage by copying it
Hello Logos Community,
I purchased Logos recently and am trying to work myself into it.
Right now I am trying to figure out whether Logos can open passages by just copying on it. I've been using "theWord" Bible Software up to now and this Software has this feature of opening a Bible Verse just by copying it. Does Logos 4 have a similar feature?

Logos 4 (L4) has a copy Bible Verses dialog under the tools menu. That dialog is not designed to open to that position in your Bible, but only to feed the clipboard information for other programs.
However, you can use the Command Bar at the top of the main L4 window to type a Bible reference and go to it. This will navigate to that location.
In fact you'll find other commands you can type into that command box which greatly increase the power of Logos.
For example:
copy hebrews 12:1-2 will copy to the clipboard without the intervening dialog.
open passage guide to hebrews 12:1-2 will start a study on that passage
Hebrews 12:1-2 will simply open your primary bible to that passage.

I do see the power of Logos and the Command Bar, but the main function I am talking about has the advantage of not needing to open the software itself. (At least not to bring it to the front window) I just need to copy the text no matter whether I am surfing in firefox, looking at a passage in word or looking at a reference in a mail in outlook. I don't need to bring "theword" in the front and type the passage into the search box, I just mark it, press CTR+S and then I see it. Way faster... that's the feature I am talking about.
But it looks like L4 does not have such a feature

It seems the software you are talking about installs a resident program in memory that reacts on a certain key. This is something Logos 4 does not do, the likely reason being that reading a bible text referenced elsewhere is a different task than studying the bible or other books in the software. I'm not sure about Logos 3/Libronix or other Logos tools, at least the Libronix version of "Copy Bible Verses" sits in the task tray and may invoke any bible reference without opening Libronix - and Logos used to build a number of small tools in the past for such tasks. Nowadays, I'd assume many/most Logos users have the software open anyway (e.g. to include notes that refer to the ideas from other sources).
Logos offers Reftagger for websites - you see it active here in the forum - and I know that the NET Bible guys offer this as a browser script to work on any website, regardless whether the webmaster cared to include a pop-up bible verse tool.

Looking at Logos 4 Help, noticed Ctrl+Alt+B shortcut to bring Logos Copy Bible Verse tool to the foreground so could enter passage, then copy. Optionally change verse formatting before copying. In comparison with "TheWord", the Logos 4 verse copying has a bit more typing. Logos can use book abbreviations => http://www.logos.com/support/windows/L4/abbreviations
For integration with Microsoft Office, Logos 4 has Smart Tags => http://wiki.logos.com/Smart_Tags that functions similar to "TheWord" shortcut.
Observation: Logos 4 Mac has Shift-Command-E keyboard shortcut to replace selected text with verse (similar to Ctrl+S in "TheWord" and Smart Tags). Edit: updated Feature Parity list with reference to this thread. First entry about Logos 4 PC lacking a bit compared to Mac (have dozens of entries about Logos 4 Mac lacking features in Logos 4 PC).

Thanks for your guyses answer, it's really appreciated.
Maybe I am too much hooked to the feature in theWord and therefore I decided to simply continue using theWord.I guess thats the easiest solution. But thanks anway

There's one more old Windows trick which isn't quite as simple as your other program, but it might help:
- L4 should be open, but can be minimized or windowed
- In the source, select the citation
- If L4 is windowed (not full-screen) and the Command Box is exposed, drag and drop the citation in the Command Box.
- If L4 is minimized, drag it to the L4 button in the taskbar, but don't drop it, yet
- L4 maximizes or restores.
- While continuing to hold the mouse button, drag and drop the verse into the Command Box.
- Click the Command Box go button or press Enter.
- You must keep at least one foot on the floor and you must keep your mouth with the correct embouchure.
I made the last one up.
Much easier to do than it is to describe.
