2.04 & On Crash / Failure
Each time I've started the Bible app since about 2.04 on a Verizon Incredible 2, it's crashed upon trying to find out if there's an update. For 2.05 & 2.06, the only way I could update was to go to the forums... It'll be the same for 2.07. Since it doesn't appear it'll be fixed until I report it, I thought perhaps I should. About correctly reflects that I'm on the beta channel.
When I start the Bible app, it appears to come up & sign into my account ok, & it even opens my Bible & commentary (split pane). But each time, I then click on the menu button at bottom of phone to get to the Bible app menu, That's taking a LONG time. When I finally comes up, I then click on the Bible apps NEWS button to see if the Bible app has found an update. Each time, the "checking for updates" keeps going around & around.
Finally the app crashes."Sorry! The application Bible (process.com.logos.androidlogos) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Only option is Force Close.
Repeat. Checking for updates is still drilling a hole in the screen.... It never finds the beta updates & stops looking, As a result, the menu button works faster (once it quits) & I can work without a further crash (which repeatedly happens the 1st time each day that I open the app).
I believe I'm on Android 2.03 (How do I tell for sure?)
What now?
Grace & Peace,
Bill

Just manually installed 2.08. No crash when there's no beta, though any attempt to access Menu / News button BEFORE it's finished checking (to see if there are any updates) is still SLOW, SLOW, SLOW.... After it's finished checking, access to the menu is normal speed.

Dear Logos,
There having been no reply to any of these notes, am I wasting my time posting them? Is info missing that'd make them useful to you? Please advise...

Hi Bill,
The "checking for updates" is your library checking for updates to resources, not checking for app updates, sorry for the confusion.
When you say "slow" do you mean it's slow to open the side panel, or it is slow once it is open?
When you get the crash, does it give you a screen to report it with a message? If you could do that (if you haven't already) next time the crash occurs, it can help us cross-reference it and follow up with you.
Thanks for your patience!

Hi David,
It crashes on 1st open, which for the last few days I've opened it has also coincided with a release of a new beta. With no new beta in the pipeline, on 1st open 08 didn't crash after I installed it this a.m.
Slow = slow to open the side panel. UNTIL it finishes checking for updates, it's several very long seconds (5? 10?) until the side panel opens. AFTER it finishes checking for updates, the side panel opens more or less immediately.
Yes, there's an error message, the one I reported in the OP above. So you don't have to go looking for it, it' ""Sorry! The application Bible (process.com.logos.androidlogos) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
After Bible app crashes, subsequent openings don't crash; nor does it appear to take long (if it even checks) looking for updates.
Hope this helps....

Bill
