Tip: How to hide up to 10 resources at once

I assume they are still operating from that assumption.

Yep, and to me one 'solution' is never to remove an item from the Library list. If I choose to I can have the option to see my 'hidden' list. Otherwise I would normally not want to see it. Keep it separate but let me access it.

I'd go further and suggest that both 'hide' and 'remove' be options. Hide for those I don't want to see in normal Library view. 'Remove' would be like hiding is now. However in both cases let me access in Library the list of hidden and removed resources, and 'all' resources at the same time as another option.

I agree some folks will muff it up. I might forget, too. I hope that doesn't make it impossible to do.

Logos created this issue with central management of our resources, making it impossible for us to delete resources on our own. Their 'solution' really is inadequate. Multiple hiding is one step. Multiple unhiding is another needed one. I'd like the Library overhaul.

(While we're at it give us a column in Library to see what collections a resource is assigned to.)

    I'd like the Library overhaul.

The root of the user problem (not being able to manage our own resources) is really architectural - Logos has set up a system that forces a customer to call support, rather than being responsible for his/her library. The problem gets exacerbated by the (excellent) desire to answer a customer call within x seconds by a human being.

On one hand we have a Premium-class software that has so many options "disabled" to make it idiot-proof. On the other hand we have customers upset at Logos that it does not provide training in a technical feature like syntax searching as well as others who complain about high prices of Logos' resources. I don't envy Logos' position.

However, there is a simple solution: instead of pretending that the software is free - let Logos create a PRO version - let's say for $1.00 with all "dumbed-down" features (the ones that Logos considers leaders in creating support calls) given full user customability. In exchange, support calls for such users would require a fee. Since most users who would go for a PRO version are well-versed in how to use forums and find answers to their questions, their need for support would be rare and really deserving attention.

While the Beta capability of hiding multiple resources does take care of that issue it doesn't really address a core issue: control of resources from WITHIN Library. It is INSIDE of Library that we need to be able to control what resources we see/use and what ones we don't. The extra 'Hidden Resources' pane inside Settings isn't what is needed. Locate all this within Library. Hide/See should be applied like tags and stars are.

    [Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y]

I've been asking for a search/filter field for the hidden resources since 4.0 came out.

Search only works if you know what you're searching for. We need sorting as well.

What I want is a simple toggle button in the Library. On and hidden resources show up in grey and can be sorted and filtered together with everything else. Off and they're, well, hidden. Right-click to change status. Or use the tag Hidden.

And wouldn't this actually be faster to code than to try to 'save' the current implementation, which will never be very good, whatever they do? The Library already has all the sorting and searching and filtering.

Everything that Logos has done with hidden resources is to make it as hard as possible to hide a resource by accident

I'd say the very opposite: everything Logos has done with hidden resources serves to make it as hard as possible to remember or retrieve hidden resources. It's because it's so complex that people do it once, with someone else's help, and then forget about it, that they get service calls. If it was right before the eyes in the Library and people moved things back and forth all the time, they'd remember to check when they missed something.

In fact, if they're really paranoid about those service calls, they could make the toggle button default to On at every single restart, so that one was forced to see the hidden resources and actively turn them off. That should end that problem once and for all!

Whilst I would agree with the concept, I rather suspect that it would just result in people complaining that Logos keeps unhiding resources they are trying to hide........

Hidden Resources was designed to solve one problem: "This is a resource I never want to see again. Make it go away."

It wasn't designed to be an advanced library management feature that lets you swap in/out sets of currently active resources or temporarily screen out resources you're not interested in. You can try to use it for that, but it won't make those tasks easy. (Because it wasn't designed to accomplish them.)

Thanks for the feedback about how you would like to see library management improved; we are reading it all and understand that this is a pain point many of you would like to see addressed.

Thanks, Bradley. There's another thread right now (this forum, I believe) about library management challenges.

Library management really does need overhauled. In addition to the suggestions / requests that have been made numerous times, let me add one that I've made before but which I don't think has come up as often as others (maybe no one agrees with me ;) :

Given Logos' complete embrace of "the cloud", it seems to me that I should be able to do all my library management via the Logos web site. In addition to letting me do this with full interface from PCs where I may not have Logos desktop installed, it seems to me it would make the difficulties around library functionality on devices (phones, tablets) more tractable. It would fantastic if I could identify the subset of my library that should show up on my Android via the web,  have it be a different subset from what shows up on my iPad, etc. And you wouldn't have to develop the challenging device native app UIs to do that kind of library management on a 4" screen.

    My $.02 ...

Thanks for the reply Bradley. It is nice to hear that better Library management tools might make it into Logos.

I think a lot has changed in the years since L4 was first in the design stages. Larger libraries (due to Logos getting so many great resources published) and the huge Perseus collection release are pushing some of these demands.

This is coming very soon; you'll be able to manage what books go to what mobile devices from several places. You'll be able to send new purchases directly to a device. (Buy a Vyrso book, and it heads straight to your Android device, for example.)

The beta version of Logos 4.6 has a new feature where you can select multiple books at once and drag them all to Hidden Resources together.

In Logos 4.6, you can select multiple resources in the Library, hold down Ctrl (or Option) and right-click them, then choose "Hide these resources" from the context menu. There is no multiple drag-and-drop.

    Bradley -

I am on 4.6 beta 2 and I cannot get this right-click option to come up. Am I missing something?

I thought I was missing something too, as it wouldn't come up for me. Until I reread Bradley's most more carefully. You have to hold down Ctrl (or Option) while you're right-clicking. It isn't a simple right-click menu option.

I'm not sure why it is so deeply hidden in the UI. Perhaps to make sure people don't accidentally hide things and then call customer service to complain about their books disappearing.

    Thank you Rosie!

You are right - I did not read his post carefully enough. I can see why they would put that extra step in, so there would not be accidental deletions.

Please help me understand when and why you would want to unhide multiple resources at once.
