I do not recall exactly how to correct it, but it has something to do with Administrative rights.

Hi Lynden & thanks for the response.... You're right, since it's asking if I have the administrative rights to access the file. Logging in as an administrator gives me rights to the whole system. So there's something flaky going on with either my system

Because this is the 2nd recent beta install where I've had this kind of error (though a different file last time), I decided to ask for help BEFORE correcting it.... Last time, I ended up having to uninstall & reinstall, but I don't have time to take the hit on downloading / indexing the library, this time...

Check Anit-virus and Firewall. Was software installed recently that may have changed your security settings?

Could be, Lynden. I got hit with 16 updates by MIcrosoft's patch Tuesday this week, including their decision to turn UAC back on (I leave it with no permissions required, as I'm very careful about what I allow to run in the 1st place).

And the System folder shows "Read Only", a possible source. (unchecking read only & applying it didn't help. I tried.)

And I set the firewall to temporarily off. Didn't help.

Last time, it was a DIFFERENT file in the System folder, but ALL other symptoms were the same. Can't install, access to System folder is the flagged issue, etc.

Absent a response from Logos or anyone else that worked, last time, I ended up having to uninstall....

I think what may have happened is that I got a bad download of the beta. If there was some way (there is; I can't remember) to force it to discard this beta download & re-download the same beta, I'm wondering if it might not work.....

Clicking the Windows link forced a reinstall of the beta & was successful in resolving the difficulty WITHOUT having to uninstall/reinstall. Resources are still there, too. Not sure why I got a bad download, but it appears that's all it was. Problem solved, & many THANKS for including the link. I'm a happy camper.

The picture only shows SYSTEM as having rights; you need to select Bill to see your rights. Irrespective, forcing UAC to be off will have similar side-effects to installing with right click "run as administrator" because Logos4, like other Win 7 executables, will normally install with the permissions of a standard or non-privileged user (only PreRequisites will specifically request Admin privilege if UAC is on, and this is the best way to handle it).

If you click Cancel on the "you don't have access" box the installation might have worked!

Good to hear from you... I did try cancel in at least one install attempt before starting this thread.... sorry I failed to report it.

You got me curious, so I checked... Bill is the only user account on the laptop & is an admin I set up with every right Windows allowed me to give it.

I'm also curious why this has occurred twice (and with different files) AND NOT EVERY TIME. Reinstalling from scratch fixed it, which is why I suspected bad bits in the download....

Turning UAC off or using "run as administrator" whilst installing leads to a can-of-worms situation with every re-installation, and your file Permissions can look like you have all the necessary rights! That's why I don't recommend either and the best fix is to turn UAC on, never use "run as ...." and do a complete re-install (removing all traces of the previous installation).

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the response & counsel. I can agree & live with all your recommendations (& will follow-up on them)--all but UAC. It's the solution to a problem I just don't have, & it's a solution that irritates me so badly that I'd rather live with the occasional installation problem from having it off
