Has anyone else noticed that many of those who were in the group of original Logos 4 alpha/beta testers are not posting as much here as they used to?

It's almost as if they are spending time in a locked area of the forums, something with the number 5 in the title perhaps...

If so, I have been excluded. I somewhat doubt that is the case, however, since there are a number of those who were in the L4 beta test group who are still posting.

It was really great to be part of the original L4 beta test group.... I haven't posted much lately for two basic reasons:

1. not a lot to say, so better to say nothing like Sargeant Schultz: "I know nothing","I hear nothing" or "I see nothing"

2. I've had some really major health issues that I am struggling with to put behind me (giving everything to the Lord, of course!)

I can answer for myself. I got an IPad and spend less time on my laptop...much less time. I have been following the forums but posting from the iPad has shown itself to be less then reliable for posting to the forums.

For me... well just no time, except to really check in once in a while for updates... Way to much bickering and I feel for anyone who dare question what is or is not going on in regard to Logos software; also a major reason as well.

I just haven't had time for the forums or beta testing at all lately. I used to enjoy this but have gotten tired of it. I check in once in a while to see if there's anything worth knowing about, but it's still the same old same old. Grumbling about how slow Logos is, bugs and more bugs, same old complaints and questions from users, and same patient replies from the MVPs who are still around. I'm glad to see some of the new features in 4.6, but alas, I really don't have time to be on the leading edge anymore.

Everyone should calm down. Logos 5 is set to be released in early November. That means the first private beta won't be available until mid-September. If you don't get invited by the first week in September, then I'd be concerned. Six weeks of beta testing should be more than enough! (There will, however, be a long list of future 'enhancements' announced for L5 the day it is released (such as Bible searching, indexing, library management, and a few others) so you can play with those over the following two years to keep from beta boredom.)

With the migration from L3 to L4 we were able to have both on our computer. I wonder whether it will be the same with L5. I wouldn't want to be stuck with an L5 which lacked significant features while they were still in the developmental stage.

AFAIK L5 will be scalable. Best used on the yet to be released i9 Intel chips with 16 cores and 32 threads, running 64 bit exclusively, plus needing 16 or more GB of RAM and a dedicated video card with at least 6 GB of 3D RAM. You will be able to scale L5 down to run on a machine that has older software and hardware that can run the old 32-bit Logos 4. It won't be recommended but will be possible. Beta testers will have to make a significant hardware outlay once the i9 chips are released in order to fully test the software, but, obviously, will be well ahead of the power curve b the time most of the rest of the world catches up.

I'm on a rather strict budget, but if a new version of Logos is minted which requires a more powerful level of hardware, I will someway find the resources if the program itself is worthy. I would rather not be offered a half-baked version the way Logos 4 was when it first appeared. It is not reaching a level of acceptability though there are some features which still need to be added such as a calculation of weights and measures. Overall it is getting to be a very good program—and there is already talk of a new version?

As far as I'm concerned, they can take it up to 4.99999, just don't bring out a program that takes 2-3 yrs to develop to where it's usable (by which time they're ready to bring out yet another half-baked program and start the cycle all over again).

As for me, I've been on sabbatical since mid April. I've sometimes monitored but rarely commented in the forums during that time. Just started with a few responses this week.

Another possible reason for the slow down in posts by some of us, is that there are many more non-MVPs who are very able to help others solve problems, and there are a lot fewer problems folks here haven't learned to solve on their own.

If there is a Logos 5 beta out there, I'd feel privileged to test it, but so far, I haven't had an invitation. (hint, hint)

It will take so long to write it over again from scratch, they will need to keep a separate team working concurrently on the old code base to release L5 to keep the upgrade addicts happy in the meantime. Otherwise there might be two or three years between releases, and that wouldn't do!

BTW: At the moment sometimes the links I insert in my notes to resources show up (blue) and other times they don't even though the link is still there and works. Any ideas?

I think version 5 in terms of functionality will be not be as huge a deal as the switch to version 4 was.

Remember Logos is now following a much more incremental (agile) development methodology now. In some parts of IT this is quite normal. For instance, I do consulting related to a cloud based system that has 3 major releases per year.

I think it is much more likely that a version 5 would be more of a repackaging of resources, maybe some bundling deals for extra content or the launch of some of the more powerful search functions that Bob has previously talked about. The good thing about those changes is that they are likely to be cloud based functions instead of relying on the local hardware so people's concerns about having to upgrade their machines will (hopefully) be unfounded.

Who are you calling an addict Rosie? I only use it everyday, and tell many friends, no enemies so far about the software and assist with installing. Proof that I am not an addict is I have started directing people to the faithlife app. So there. I am not an addict.
