Have upgraded to Windoes 7 64 bit and wanting to know if anyone has been able to run Zondervan Pradi

I have recently updated to Windows 7 64 bit and can no longer get my Pradis 6.0 working. Before I take the plunge and start reinvesting in Logos resources (which I may well do anyway) - I am wanting to check if any Zondervan Pradis users have got theirw working on Windows 7 64 bit ( I read somewhere about a patch available) -

But also secondly I want to get some input from folk who made the upgrade decision to transfer their Pradis resources to Logos and what they felt about the investment.

Look forward to input / comments.

I didn't have a disk to reinstall Pradis 6.0 (a "free" gift by Pradis, somewhere along the line, along with at least one more reference book that was a "free" gift & incentive to migrate to 6.0). But I'm sitll using Pradis 5.0 under W7 Pro 64bit & until Pradis 5.0 won't run under some version of Windows I've vowed not to replace the books I have in it. That's the only way I felt I could truly express my dissatisfaction with Zondervan's "upgrade" policy.

You might consider setting up Virtual Box or one of the commercial virtual software setups to run older software. I still have Pradis 6 on XP, but I intend to ditch it eventually once I get enough spare money to buy the two language dictionaries I still use it for.

Some versions of Windows 7 (Enterprise, Professional, and Ultimate) include a licence for Windows XP mode using Microsoft's Virtual PC.

Thanksfor the advice I ran a quick google search on pradis 6.01.0024 - and that seems to have fixed - sobased on the advice I will wait till my savings allow for the Logos investment

I bit the $ bullet and upgraded my Pradis resources to Logos. No regrets. Resources in one package, with tons more functionality.

I just had the same problem but found that the solution is in Windows 7 itself.

Just click on the start menu and go into the programs until you come to the Pradis folder. Then right click on "Pradis 6" and then click on "Properties". In "Properties" section click on "Compatibility". In the "Compatibility mode" section select the "Windows Vista service pack 2" mode and Windows 7 will open and run your Pradis 6 program in this mode automatically whenever you open it.

That worked GREAT, thanks for posting. One note to those as ill-technically minded as myself. When I right clicked the option actually said something like "troubleshoot compatibility". I just followed the instructions it gave me (really just a couple clicks) and voila! It now works!

I'm sorry yours is not working.

I run Windows 7 Pro/64 bit etc and Pradis.

It was added during a "clean" install.

It resides in the Program Files (x86) drawer.

BUT I forget what steps [if any] that I needed to take.

So sorry, but hope that this gives you "hope" in your quest.

HI Jim,

I also have the same problem as I recently "upgraded" my laptop to a Windows 7 OS. I managed to get my Pradis working though it does not look as good. Until James finds a copy of the patch, or we upgrade to a Windows 7 Pro, we may have to make do with this.

Right click on Pradis.exe and click on Properties. Choose compatibility. And check the box that says "Run in 256 colors". Click on Apply.

I did just that and my Pradis worked - but it looks ugly without all the colours and shades.

I'm having these issues after installing the Pradis CD on my new laptop which has Win7. The old one had XP SP3. I had no issues on the old Windows.

I cannot use the menu bar at the top. I tried running in Compatibility mode for Win XP SP3. Its not helping.

My study freezes, the application does not respond. I copied my study from my old laptop to my new one & placed it in the folder under application preferences: C:\Users\MyName\Documents\Pradis\StudyNotes.

After reading these posts I thought I would try to install my Zondervan Expositor's Bible Commentary. I have the Pradis update disk version 6.01.0024. I have Windows 7 64 bit and it installed flawlessly and is working fine. I did not have to make any adjustments for compatability. It probably does not help anyone here but I thought I would pass on the info.

I just bought a PC with Windows 8 and can't get my NIV App Comm NT to install. It appears that my 6 prophets OT is okay. I think it is because the NT is 5.1 and the OT is 6.0

I found this thread when I have the same problem installing my Pradis books onto my new Win 7 machine. Thanks James for the file in dropbox. Fearing the availability might be gone some day due to the instability of installing the application, I search for other free alternatives that can same my books. The other reason for doing this is I want the books be available on my MacBook as well (on which Pradis does not run).

In fact Logos has a tool to create personal book. It allows multi-level table of content. It also recognizes (proper) bible verse reference and displays corresponding scripture text in popup windows, no link is needed to be built. This is what I did to my NIV Application Commentary on NT.

Bring up the book in Pradis.
Right click at the top of the book and select 'Copy Topics and sub-topics'.
Paste in Microsoft Word 2007/2010
Add Heading (Heading 1, 2, 3, etc) to titles and sub-titles accordingly. (I skip the techniques for preserving formats here)
Save the file in .docx format.
Create Personal book in Logos (search Logos site for detail instruction)
Then I have the book available in Logos library.

Someone might have been doing this already. Since I don't see such thread, I share here so it might help. Since Logos system is still being supported and it runs on both PC and Mac, by doing so I can preserve my books at least for a longer while. Hope this helps you as well.

As I said, I am slowly converting my books in Pradis into Logos by using Personal Books format.The result is pretty good. Just takes time. I don't mind to share what I have done with someone who is able to do the same to other books so together we will benefit each other together. The only concern I have however, is the copyright. I don't have problem to convert my own book to use myself, And I don't have problem to share with someone who owns the same book, as I am sharing only the efforts I put it myself! (Please remind me if even doing this violates the copyright law). Is there a better way to secure the copyright issue and yet to share works among those who are eligible? Logos server registers all the rights of who owns what. But I doubt if they will let us do so, even I offer my copy of personal book to let them to distribute to whoever owns the pradis copy. They are asking we to buy their version in order to make money!

So does anyone have any idea on this?

I have a new laptop with Windows 8.1. Initially Pradis 6.0 would not load to my laptop. Just did nothing at all, so I clicked the exit button, thinking "farewell Pradis". Hidden underneath the Pradis image on my screen a compatibility box had appeared. So I clicked okay and tried again. This time Pradis loaded. However, as described above by 2 or 3 people, it locked up when I clicked on any of the drop down choices across the top. It would also lock up when I double clicked a word to use the translation function. I had to force the program to close each time. I decided to find the Pradis executable file in the Pradis folder as mentioned by someone above. Found it, right clicked and chose properties. Selected the compatibility tab and chose one of the Windows XP choices and clicked okay. Pradis is now fully functional on my laptop!!!

The only way AFAIK to secure the right to copy is to personally apply to the publisher/author, so can you clarify "those who are eligible"?

I am an IT tech at my company & I ran into a similar issue. Recently my company started purchasing new PCs with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, as opposed to the Windows 7 Pro 32-bit version we've been using for several years. I installed Pradis 5.1 on one of the new 64-bit machines, & it threw up an error message that says:

Pradis Error

Description:

The book requested cannot be located.

System Error Desc: Database NIV not online.

Resolution:

The template will not be opened.

Clicking the OK button just brings up the same error repeatedly. To get out of the application, you need to kill the process tree for Pradis.exe in Task Manager.

I immediately suspected that the reason for this error is because it's hardcoded to look for a file or folder in <root directory>\Program Files\Pradis. (Note: 99.9% of the time, the root directory for Program Files will be C:\. If it isn't there, try looking on other drive partitions.) In 64-bit Windows, 32-bit applications are no longer installed in <root directory>\Program Files\. They are now installed in <root directory>\Program Files (x86)\, which Pradis doesn't recognize. I also suspected there might be a pretty simple solution to this problem, & I was right.

Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\

Select & Copy (do NOT move) the file folder Pradis

Navigate to C:\Program Files\

Paste the folder Pradis (& all files & subfolders contained within) into the folder C:\Program Files\

You should now have two identical copies of the folder Pradis, along with all the files & subfolders contained within.

Now when you try to open Pradis, it should work fine.

Note: the Pradis folder on this PC is about 365MB. I'm installing on a 1TB drive with plenty of free space, so I wasn't concerned about duplicating a 365MB folder & taking up space. If you're space challenged on your HD, I suspect you could delete all the files (NOT the folders) from C:\Program Files\Pradis, because the executables are actually in C:\Program Files (x86)\Pradis\. You could then probably go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Pradis\ & at least delete the books folder. I'm not sure about the other two. Actually I'm not 100% sure about any of this because I haven't tested it & have no need to do so, but I'm pretty sure it would work. If it doesn't, just reinstall the program & start over.
