When starting logos4 it will start to index as loading and I will get an error message that indexing has stopped. The software will continue to load and is functional but not sure indexing is complete.
Welcome Tony & Lisa
We need to see some log files. Read this article --> http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging and upload the Logos4.log and logos4indexer.log as described.

Hopefully I did this right.

Yes.
Let's see if it is BITS related (Windows 7/Vista):-
Start a Command Prompt (type "cmd" and select "cmd.exe" as per "services" above) and type bitsadmin /reset
Note: do above from a Windows Administrator account.
Start L4.
"Background Intelligent Transfer Service" is not in the list of Services.
It should be present as it's the only way to get Windows Updates as well as Logos updates!
It may not be obvious when you first open Services
Click on Standard and then expand the Name column to get a better view
That is also part of the problem. I noticed I had a problem when I tried to update a book I had just purchased and it would not retrieve and install it. I checked again and ready every line in the Services list and it is not there. A month ago I had a problem with a virus that was locking my computr. Could it possibly have deleted the file?
If so, what would I need to do to get it back? Will I need to reinstall Windows 7 to get it striaghtened out?
Thanks

Unfortunately the Answers site is N/A at the time I tried it.

You could try a system restore if you have a restore point that was taken BEFORE the virus lockout. If BITS cannot be reinstalled (and you don't have a complete system backup/image of your own) then you will have to do a repair reinstall of Windows 7 e.g. see http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
