Bug: Two-finger swipe not returning to previous location / resource in expected manner

If this isn't a bug, it violates my expectations of how the app should behave. Logos app for iOS 2.0.2 on an iPad running iOS 5.0.1. The resources in question are both downloaded.

I'm using Carson's "For the Love of God" devotional. Using today (Feb 24) as an example, I touch the "Exodus 7" link which pops up the reference; then I click "Jump to reference" (ESV). When I'm done reading that, I two-finger swipe to return to the devotional. I then jump to the Luke 10 reference. When I'm done reading that, a two-finger swipe takes me back to Exodus 7. I have to do the swipe a second time to get back to the devotional. When I'm done reading Job 24, it takes 3 two-finger swipes to return to the devotional.

I've spent a fair amount of time thinking about why it would work this way in the event that this is "as designed". But I can't come up with any scenario where this makes sense or would match a user's expectations. The previous resource / location at every point was the devotional; so a single two-finger swipe should take me back there.

    Bump.

I'd really love a comment from Logos on this. If I'm right, it needs to be corrected in a near-term release. If not, what is my misunderstanding?

    Hi Donnie,

This indeed appears to be an issue - I will write up a case for our Development department.  Thanks!

I was hoping the release of 3.0 would fix this long-standing and acknowledged problem. Unfortunately, no joy.

I wrote up some initial observations regarding two-finger swipes and 3.0 here: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/53780.aspx .

Here's what I observe in normal usage:

    - Using "History", I open Carson's "For the Love of God".
    - I navigate to the first passage for the day, e.g. 1 Sam 25 on Sep 1 (ESV).
    - When I'm done reading that chapter, I two-finger swipe to the right, expecting to go back to Carson.
    - Instead, I'm taken to the last passage that I had been reading in the ESV, whenever that might have been.
    - A second two-finger swipe takes me back to Carson.
    - I navigate to the second passage for the day.
    - A two-finger swipe takes me to the same last passage as I was taken to from the first passage for the day. A second swipe takes me back to Carson.

Note that this behavior is slightly different than before 3.0. Previously I would have to swipe through each of the day's passages that I had already visited. By the time I got to the fourth passage for the day, I'd have to swipe 3 times to get back to Carson.

Here's a way that I seem to be able to reproduce this in a way that makes it clear what passage the swipe is taking you to.

    - Navigate to any passage in the ESV that isn't one of the upcoming passages in Carson, e.g. Hebrews 11:1. (I haven't gone so far as to see if the problem is specific to the ESV.)
    - Kill the Logos app. (Go to the iPad home screen and double-click the Home button to view the icons of the running apps. Hold down on Logos until it wiggles and kill the app.)
    - Restart Logos. It will come open to the passage to which you had navigated before killing the app (Heb 11:1).
    - Using History, open Carson's "For the Love of God".
    - Touch the link for the first passage to the day and navigate to that passage.
    - Two-finger swipe with the intention of going back to Carson. Instead, you'll be taken to Heb 11:1.
    - Swipe again and you'll be at Carson.
    - Navigate to the second passage for the day.
    - Swiping will take you to Heb 11:1.
    - A second swipe will take you to Carson.

This behavior is very frustrating and not at all intuitive. Logos - can you please correct in whatever next release you put out?

    Thanks,

    Donnie

It looks like yesterday's 3.0.3 release fixed this long-standing problem (at least early indications are good ;). I wanted to make sure I said thanks to the Logos team.

    Thanks!

I am just starting off using the Logos mobile app.  I'm wondering where you find the list of gestures (ex. - the two finger swipe) that work in the app.  Is there a site that explains these?

It's in the settings of the iPad itself, not Logos settings. It's very useful. They have to be turned on.

Thanks for pointing this out, I didn't know that a two-finger swipe did that. Very helpful!
