CRASH after import -- unable to open L4

I finally managed to figure out how to import 2 vocabulary lists into L4Mac -- only to end up with a program that crashes about 30 seconds or so after the screen shows. I've confirmed that the Word Lists are there, but that's just about all I have time for before it quits. I've tried to open with a blank layout and offline and I've tried restarting the computer. Nothing works.

Given that this was clearly caused by the import, should I just go to Documents/Documents/WordList and trash the wordlist.db? What went wrong?

Some more details about what I did can be found at http://community.logos.com/forums/p/51784/393869.aspx#393869.

Also experienced a crash after importing word lists, although I have been able to reopen L4Mac.

Opened Seow's Hebrew Grammar vocabulary list and conducted a few printing dialog experiments—to be the subject of a new thread. After about two or three minutes of this, L4 disappeared and OS X informed me that it had crashed.

UPDATE: Was able to reopen the vocabulary list without crashing L4, but I only left it open for a few seconds. I need L4 and do not want to encourage it to crash repeatedly. [8-|]

One option is contacting Logos Technical Support.

Given that this was clearly caused by the import, should I just go to Documents/Documents/WordList and trash the wordlist.db?

Adventurous option is moving wordlist.db and wordlist.db-journal files to the trash then open Logos 4.6, which should cause wordlist.db to be recreated.  Albeit Word Lists may return via sync from Logos servers.

Logos4.log shows a crash in the Word List Manager for a year being outside the range of 1 to 9999.

Apologies: have downloaded and imported all Vocabulary Lists from http://www.logos.com/training/vocabularylists using Logos 4.6 on Mac OS X 10.6.8; then printed one to a pdf:

    5280.The_Original_Word_Teaching_Series__Introduction_to_New_Testament_Greek.pdf

Learned sorting Word List by section works a bit better when vocabulary list has numbers in the sections:

Also wonder if akkadian needs a font ?

Looking at Logos4.log noticed process number indicates has been awhile since Mac OS X was rebooted.  Also, the crash has a malloc error when trying to allocate 1729207472 bytes, which is 1.6 GB that is a bit surprising for a 32 bit application.

With 9 Vocabulary Lists open in Logos 4.6, am using 370 MB so not know why 1.6 GB was requested for a memory allocation (malloc).

    Keep Smiling [:)]

Prior to L4 that was only required after system updates. Now, we are forced to act like Windows users and reboot [:(]

I've never had a Mac with enough RAM to leave open (not that I'd do that anyway, for energy reasons). Usually, I restart twice a day.

I'm glad you're here, given that Logos support staff have been invisible for nearly a week now. They should double their presence on the forums after an update; instead they disappear. I find that pretty outrageous and utterly disrespectful.

I forgot about the sync. So I need to open offline and create a new Word List before I go online again? How adventurous is "adventurous"? I haven't created any Word Lists, so the files don't include anything I've put work into. And I'm already crashing. Could anything else be broken by deleting those files?

Logos4.log shows a crash in the Word List Manager for a year being outside the range of 1 to 9999.

Meaning? I presume there can't be anything wrong with the Libronix files, given that you and Jack have managed to import them. And I believe you're both on the same OS as I. So what happened? Will it happen again if I manage to get back to 'stable' and then make another try?

I'll create a case for your logs and get it looked at by Development.

EDIT: Which two lists had you imported?

Thanks. I hope they do it immediately. I would prefer to at least be able to open the program. What do you think about removing the two .db files?

We are currently investigating this issue. It would be helpful to have a copy of your wordlist.db. You can either post it here or submit it to logos4feedback@logos.com with a link to this thread.

    Path:
    /Users/{username}/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Documents/{random}/Documents/WordList/wordlist.db

As previously suggested, you can attempt to remove the wordlist files manually. This may resolve the problem, as long as the documents have not been uploaded to the sync servers.

    Thanks!

OK, I'll try it, as soon as I've closed Safari and freed some RAM.

Interesting: I removed the .db files and started up. No crash (so far!). However, the lists are still there under Files, so they must have synced back. Sort of, because I presume they're not supposed to look like this:

    image

    Log: 2604.Logos4.log.zip

And the new .db file in case you want to compare: 7217.wordlist.db.zip

This issue should be fixed in 4.6 SR-1.  You may have to reimport the list and delete the old version to get it to display correctly.

Please let us know if you experience any more crashing in that area.

Some unexpected things happened during the reimport, but everything seems to work now, so I won't take the time to write it down (they were probably less unexpected for you anyway).
