WHY One column of text sometimes instead of two

Is this a bug? I get tired to read some books when two column disappear and only one column in the text (too long lines). After switching few pages forward and then backward sometimes it turns to be normal.

EDIT: Here is the sample of a problem

The issue of multiple columns moving to fewer columns is almost always a resource specific issue and happens in L4 under the right (or wrong!) conditions. Most often it is due to a long header, but there are other causes, including hidden characters. I would ask you to give me a specific example, but it would need to be a more common one... I don't own that resource.

how come the same header appears under two column and sometimes under one... And the following 15 pages under one column as well. Only when i flip a chapter forward I see two columns, and when i move back to my previous place where I had one column I get two....

I think this phenomena is generally referred to as 'a bug'; the intricacies of which we are not privy to. Alabama has explained the root cause. Why it persists has yet to be explained but no doubt somebody will eventually 'file a report for this' and it will go unmentioned for a couple of years till fgh resurrects it.

Which, of course, begs Slava's question...

It has to do with how Logos loads book content.

Logos books are broken into articles. When you are reading a book, we only load a portion of that book into memory at a time. As you scroll or page through the book, we are loading and unloading articles from the book's file on your hard drive. Also, article sizes vary from book to book and it is very difficult from a user's perspective to know when articles are loaded or unloaded.

As I mentioned in the the other thread, the column override is in effect as long as the offending content is loaded (not necessarily displayed). This has to do with how we measure and wrap content (all loaded content is wrapped to the same width).

Jumping to a new place in the resource (assuming it isn't already loaded), dumps all the loaded articles and relocates to the new spot which is potentially why Slava is not getting the override when jumping to a location as opposed to scrolling to that location (different content is loaded at that time).

We do our best to minimize column overrides because it can be jarring. However, given the nature of the problem, it is hard to eliminate. It is further complicated by the fact that our books can be viewed at a nearly infinite combination of page/column widths as well as font scales across a variety of platforms and devices.

I will take a look at this particular case to see what might be causing it.

In the case mentioned ("Joining Children on the Spiritual Journey: Nurturing a Life of Faith"), the offending content is the Table of Contents. So, paging forward from the cover page to chapter one, the loaded articles contains the "Contents" article and thus has the override in effect. Jumping directly to chapter one will most likely result in the "Contents" article not loaded and thus will wrap to 2 columns at the specified column width.

Tables are one of the most common types of content that triggers a column override because they inherently can't be wrapped. Certain images and long headings are other usual suspects.

I hope that helps clear up any confusion.

So, there is no solution for this issue? Nothing that can control override? Because of this annoying issue, I cannot use Logos/Vyrso as a reader. Any plans to change it in the future? if not, I will have to switch Logos/Vyrso to ibooks [:(]

EDIT: In my opinion I would rather have not fully displayed a picture (if I would like to see it, I would display it by double clicking), than overriding the text. Why table of contents/headings cannot be divided into two sentences

    Hi Slava,

The only solution I am aware of that might alleviate the issue is to force that app to display a single column only.  If you tap on an open resource and tap the "Aa" icon it will open the View Settings dialog.  You can select 1 as the column.  I hope this helps.  Thanks!
