Still Crashing
ok, I have had a ton of problems with crashing on my IPhone and IPad for a couple weeks. Everyone told me to wait for the next update, which I promptly downloaded last night on both mobile devices.
This morning I began my study--Authorized Version in one pain, WBC Ecclesiastes in the other. After 10-15 pages it crashed. Ok, so I am trying to not get too irritated. I close and re-open--Crash. I shut down whole IPhone--Crash.
So then I deleted the whole app completely and re-downloaded from the app store--Crash.
So then I wondered about my internet connection--it is very poor (1 bar). As a matter of fact it doesn't even receive phone calls. I wondered if the Logos app is trying to connect to the Logos cloud (I don't know if that is the right lingo) and is getting a partial signal but not enough to complete the task. In other word, that it is trying to get the next pages from the Logos site rather than from my downloaded book???
So, I put the phone in Airplane mode. And lo and behold it has not crashed again after several hours of use. I hope this solves the problem, but I am not holding my breath.
I updated my IPad last night too. Frustratingly, it is still crashing. So I will try completely deleting the app and downloading from App store. The internet connection is not an issue with the IPad, however. I only use it at home with constant wifi.
Any other ideas out there?
Steve

I am having the same problem. I downloaded the newest version yesterday and now it will not open at all. I tried to open the app this morning and it went to the blue splash screen sits there a long time and then quits. I have tried shutting down the iPad and restarting it but that did not help. Next I will delete it and reinstall to see if that works, but am not going to hold my breath.

Then maybe you can be the first to try a new feature! [:S]
Go to your iOS settings and scroll to the bottom. Under the "Apps" section, select "Logos Bible." Turn "Start at homepage" on and see what happens.

Yes, it seems to the the WBC commentaries--Psalms and Ecclesiates anyway. It does not seem to be crashing with the Authorized Verison which always runs with the WBC commentary in a split screen. I know...why don't I just stop using the Word Commentary. Well, I'm in the middle of one, I paid a lot for it and I have already started in it. I will, however, try some other commentaries in those books and see what happens.
I have been keeping up with the posts and I think you told someone how to check note file size by "pretend printing" I think his was about 1120 pages. Mine are not that long. One is 120 pages. Another is 100 pages. And all the rest are below 10 pages each.

Thanks for that. Just wanted to check and make sure that wasn't the issue for you. At this point, Logos will have to chime in. Sorry! I wish I could have been more of a help.

Will they chime in automatically? Or do I have to do something?

Hi Steve,
Whether downloaded locally or not, I am unable to get Logos to crash with any of the WBC resources I've tried. Can you check the version of Logos by navigating to the Home page and tapping on the gear icon (top right of the screen) and then on About? Also, there is a Help menu under settings that allows you to send support info from your device. Can you please send this?
What devices do you have (iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, iPad 2, etc.) and what versions of iOS are they running (4.3.5, 5.0, 5.1.1, etc.)?
As you mentioned earlier, poor network connectivity can cause issues (both with phone calls and with Logos). Logos expects that a good network connection exists unless the device is offline. However, it still shouldn't cause a crash if the network is spotty or is losing packets somewhere along the way.

1. IPad Version 3.0.2 (3.0.2.1396)
2.. I sent the support info from my IPad as you requested.
3. IPad 1
4. Version 5.1.1 (9B206)
The IPhone seems to be working as long as it is in Airplane Mode. Not ideal but better than nothing. It is an iPhone 4; Logos version 3.0.2 (3.0.2.1396); Version 5.1.1 (9B206)
I will say that I have been with Libronix/Logos for a very long time. Many of my books were purchased when it was still Libronix. Could this cause a problem? I know for sure I bought the WBC when it was Libronix.
You say Logos needs a good connection....but if the book is actually downloaded should this be a problem? Or do I need to put it into Airplane Mode every time I go into a spotty area. I, of course, knew I wouldn't be able to download a book in a spotty area. But once the book is downloaded do you still need a good connection?

Kind of… yes. The app will continually try to sync notes/highlights/resource location. The guides, of course, are fully performed online.
When you say that the app is crashing, are you just flipping through or actually reading?

Good news.
I deleted and then re-downloaded on my mobile apps. Cleared everything as best I could and today both the IPad and the IPhone seem to be working. I love the new layout. I love Logos. I thank God for it every day (really).
Having said that...I will not again download any updates for the mobile app until several weeks later. This crashing happened to me twice in less than a year. The first time ( I think it was the end of January when highlighting was added) I downloaded the updates the night before I left on a business trip--1500 miles from home. And to top it off, this was the first time I decided to not take my computer...BIG MISTAKE. Now here we are in September and the same problem, although my situation is not so dire.
I would like for Logos to take the use of their software seriously. Some people really rely on it. When it fails...they fail.
Thanks for the help.
Steve
