Prof. Horner's Bible reading plan

First post ever. Do any of you use Prof. Horner's Bible Reading plan (reading from 10 different sections 1 chapter a day). Do any of you know if Logos can be customized to show this reading plan for each day?

No on both counts. Currently you cannot edit Bible reading plans quite to that extent. Though I won't be surprised if there's more of that down the road.

Yes, I use Prof Horner's reading system (though I modified it for twelve groups), but no, L4 can't handle this particular system at this time. I know I have read several suggestions for the reading plans, so when we look into some of these other improvements I will see what I can do to allow for this type of system.

This seems like it should be a simple matter of adding a few AND functions.
Set up one Reading Plan for, say, Matthew through John. Choose one chapter per day/session. Or, 2 chapters per day some plans
Then ADD another line that does the same thing, +ADD button could add a second line.
Genesis - Deut, 2 chapters a day, then repeat the reading from the beginning.
Doesn't seem like this would be hard to program, and it would be a great asset for Logos.JJ

I made the mistake of applying logic here. It would seem that one could build the scheme for the lowest common multiple of the days in each thread. Not wanting to actually carry it to that extreme, I decided to try to build the first 2 threads for a single year:
Mt, Mk, Lk, Jn, Mt, Mk, Lk, Jn, Mt, Mk, Lk, Jn, Mt, Mk, Lk, Jn, Mt 1-10 | Gn, Ex, Lv, Nm, Du, Gn, Ex, Lv, Nm, Du 1-24
I was horrified by the results ... Logos 4 insisted on scheduling a single occurence of the four Gospels spread out over the year. It refused to consider rereading.
So I did a simple test: Mt, Mk over 4 weeks produces identical results to Mt, Mk, Mt, Mk over 4 weeks.

Confirmed in another thread - you can't repeat a book in the current reading plan implementation.

A fellow user, Jon, has devised a way to manually create reading plans in a precise way not currently possible using L4's automatic capabilities. Available are methods for a precise M'Cheyne plan and the Horner plan. I have tested and will use his method. The Horner plan presented is a 2 year plan (2010-2011) due to the 10 tracks having very different multiples of repetition and 2 years delays a ragged ending . Perhaps the Logos programmers will eventually have an elegant solution, but until then, I think you will be happy with this one.
PLEASE read all of Jon's caveats, etc, regarding this being a non-supported technique. Make a backup if you have any other reading plans, so that if your attempt at this goes up in flames, you can always go back. Grace & Peace....

Another workaround for this would be to copy and paste the entire reading plan into a Notes file. Logos will automatically create links for all of the Scripture references. So you can just click on them to read them. Downsides to not using Logos's integrated reading plan feature are: (1) you will be responsible for knowing what day today is; not a big deal if you're just reading from where you left off; (2) you have to keep track of what readings you've completed already somehow. Also not a big deal, and it will help you remember #1. You can keep track by inserting some character (e.g., an asterisk) at the beginning of each line. I like to use a checkmark for such things, which I copy from Word (can insert it there using Insert Symbol).

Because I'm me, I'd solve the problem by turning reading plans into Lectionaries ... if only we could build them ourselves.[:P]

Thanks David for the Word file. I haven't come across this plan other than seeing it mentioned in a few threads. I still keep Libronix 3 installed so might have at look at it there.

Rosie, I just came across this post about the LIFE Journal Plans. I have previously done what you are suggesting here, and L4 Mac doesn't automatically turn them into links. When I created this, I was in hopes that they would. Now I read your post and you say it will. Please enlighten me on the steps it takes to do this, perhaps I'm missing something. This is exactly what I'm looking for!

Hi rog, I also saw your post about links not working on Mac beta 10 on the other thread on the Logos 4 forum. I don't know what to say. I'm running on the Windows platform, where it works fine. I copy all of January from here (http://www.newlifechapel.com/media/pdf/LifeJournalReadingPlan.pdf) and paste it into a new Note in Logos, and all the Scripture references come out blue (which means they're links). If I hover over them, the Scripture text pops up. If I Ctrl+Click on them, it jumps to my Bible at that point. Does it not work that way for you?
I don't have a Mac, so I can't test out what you're experiencing. It might be something that's not working yet or is broken on the Mac side. You'll need to get an answer from a Mac person. Try posting your question on the Logos 4 Mac forum. Go ahead and start a new thread for it rather than seeking an existing thread to piggy-back off of. It's more likely to get noticed that way. And if you suspect it's a bug, prefix the subject line with "BUG: " so that it gets the attention of the Logos developers.

Smart Tags for Logos 4 are being beta tested now so its only a matter of time that before this will become a workable alternative approach for L4.

I would love to see options for adding other Lectionaries or Bible reading schedules. I use the annual Torah reading cycle and would love to see it incorporated.

Keep up the pressure - many of use want the same things ... and Logos is paying attention even if progress resembles molasses[:D]

BTW, as a heads-up to anyone wanting to start the Horner Plan afresh in 2011, just follow the instructions posted last year on the Wiki (linked above) and use the "Adjust Plan From Here" option (right-click on a date in the calendar). The plan also syncs to Biblia.com.
I note this because apparently when Jon developed the procedure last year, L4 wasn't able to do the Adjust From Here without re-defining the calendar and tinkering with the schedule. Ditto with syncing. But apparently some time during 2010 these features became usable with "roll-your-own" plans.
