CP CC Avalanche...again

I know it's been talked about...by me and others...but the only thing I can conclude is that there is some hardness of head at Logos. Dumping 9 Classic Commentaries in Nov. @ $300 is just bad business...at least from many customers' perspective. I hope that in the end about half of these will be bumped into Dec., but even then I will probably have to say no to something I fully intended to say yes to. It's almost like Logos wants customers to get frustrated...angry even. Most people who decided to get the CC's likely intended to get them all, but the mindless drinking-from-the-firehose-approach to sales seems to goven with CP and PrePub offerings. Even if these were the only things I intended to get (they aren't), there is a limit to what most customers can afford in a short span of time.
Well, I've vented...for all the good it will do.

All you have to do is call them and they will hold the price until another time for you.
or
You can put it on a payment plan and split it up over a couple of months. That would be the same as them pushing half of them over until December. You would just pay an extra $5 per month.

Watch out!!!!! That five dollars a month for two months for lets say 60 dollars is 100 percent effective annual rate? Let's be a little more real.....book allowance let's say is 200 a month...that is 975 financed for five months.....no other spending.....if logos puts out five classic commentaries in each month.... that is almost half the bible that the person will not get since the price moves from say 30 to.......200 or more. The original poster had 9 sets so that is 66 percent of bible covered..
I would think its easier to get seven 30 dollar bids than one 200 dollars for a set of 100 year old commentaries. I know I am much more willing to open the wallet for seven 30's compared to one 200!!!!!!

I'm not sure I understand the point you are making. The OP said that he had $300 worth of Community Pricing items coming up in November. He then said that it would be helpful to put half of them off until December (even though he did say that this would be hard as well). He could do half in November and the other half in December, which would be two payments of $155. He would end up paying an extra $10, as opposed to missing out on the CP prices.

My points are........
Watch out for the monthly fee as you allow x amount of dollars to be divided......the effective interest could be on the order of stupid use of God's money.
instead of allowing 9 cp's to come at once all converting to 200 dollars each.......allow them slower release for more cp purchases.

Isn't it the buyer's responsibility to manage their purchases?

true... but logos doesn't give a estimated date once it passes the 100%. So it is hard to know if to put a bid in.

Yes, most definately. I would rather Logos slow down and let me make five or six set purchases at 30 dollars as opposed to only one if that at 200. Of course, Logos would rather the purchases come in when they cost 200.MJ. Smith said:Isn't it the buyer's responsibility to manage their purchases?

Believe me, William. I share your pain. With their push on the basics for the Catholic market, Logos has really stretched my wallet and forced me to let some really nice items go.[:'(]

Wisest comment ever! We must be good stewards of our money no if, buts about it.
If you signed up for them, then it means you can afford them. It doesn't matter if you got them cheap, if you signed up for all of them common sense should tell you they add up. 10+8+30+25+25+30+15...etc. I don't believe is Logos responsibility to plan release dates around individuals monthly spending allowance. You will always have the ones that complain for the commentaries not coming out of production and the ones complaining for the commentaries coming out of production too fast. As the saying goes, "You can't please everyone!" If you get mad or upset or happy it's your choice. If you think Logos is trying to get you mad by releasing the commentaries too fast, then what about the person that gets happy and is eager to get them all at once and soon?
My advice to the OP would be: Talk to someone at sales, they might be able to make an exception by delaying the charge on your credit card or something.
On my end I've been through a lot of major changes in my life lately so I cancelled all my CC series and trust me, I'm not complaining. Plus, I also thought about it long and hard enough and realize that I don't really need, say, 30 commentaries on the same book of the Bible. With what I have I have plenty and whether you agree or not most commentaries say the same thing worded differently. At least the concepts remain the same in most of them. Principles remain the same, unless you're reading commentaries like on the book of Revelation which has several interpretations and even the commentaries with the same interpretation vary slightly in comments other than that, same stuff on the beatitudes, on philippians 4:13 and other passages like Psalm 1, etc. no matter what commentary you're reading you get very similar comments on most all of them.
Anyway, props to MJ for such a wise comment!
Blessings!

There is no interest. Logos only charges $5 per month, so you only spend that amount for however many months you break it up. If you break something up to $20 a month, then you pay an extra $5 per month, but if you break something up to $200 a month, then you still only pay an extra $5 a month. I don't think this is stupid at all, and I appreciate that Logos gives us this option. I do agree that it would be foolish to spend $5 extra a month on a small purchase.
Also, as I said before, if you call them they will hold your order until you have the money to pay for it. You don't lose your CP price. I do not know how long they will hold the price for though, but this came up with me when I was concerned about the $1000 Pre-Pub Baker set and whether or not I would have the money to add it to my payment plan when it comes out.
I would think that there would be many more complaints if Logos started holding releases, especially since they offer the above options for payment.

If they will hold the price then I don't know why there are complaints. What more can they do? They will hold the price so that you can purchase them later, so that there is no avalanche. why is this thread still active?

I have been told by Logos in the past that CP/Prepub products are not eligible for "financing," so I'm not convinced this is really a valid option. Customer Service has never mentioned holding the price as an option to me, either, and I've been on the line with them many times.
I wish things could be slowed down, too!
I'm trying to collect all of the classic commentaries, but I first got involved with Logos in late April 2012, so I missed _half_ of the CP options; many of mine are being bought at prepub prices, ouch!
I've passed on several of the Prepubs because of personal finances, some only go up from (i.e.) $89 to $120 or so; But Job? From $125 prepub to $365? What gives?
Here's hoping Logos will collect the full set, and put them on a special that makes the cost more attractive and tractable for those of us who are arriving late to the game, or financially challenged, or both ...

Or... it's simply $5 a month incurred expenses totally unrelated to the "principal" or basic cost (+ tax) owed on the books. I.e., it's:
- Cutting out two Venti-sized plain coffees at Starbucks a month
- Cutting out one fast-food lunch a month
- Cutting out half a movie ticket a month
- Setting aside $0.17 a day
- Etc.
for however many months you choose to pay it.

I learned my lesson early on. Now, when a CP that I've bid on moves to Pre-pub, I set aside the money in my checking account for it right then. That way it doesn't matter how many of the CP's are published in one month, the money has been already allocated.
