Logos starts and shuts down

This morning, I clicked on the Logos icon and it starts up and then closes down. I've repeated this over and over and cannot get any further than that. Anyone got an idea as to how to overcome this?

Logs would help.
I had a similar issue last week (due to a PC crash not induced by Logos), and the logs told me that update.db was corrupt. I renamed it and everything worked perfectly. So we need to see your logs, the more the better (i.e. hold down CTRL through starting, which will invoke the logos diagnostic log), when it crashes, put all those logs into a zip and attach her with the paperclip.

Super - again, can you tell me where to find that particular log that you're looking for. I'm in the Logos directory but cannot see it.

Bootjack,
the log says Logos can't open the Homepage file path due to access rights problems.
Maybe it helps if you run Logos as an administrator.
I know that there's a documentation on the wiki (maybe from Dave Hooton?) what to do with access rights problems - however, I'd try running it as admin first. If this doesn't help, the next I would try would be to rename the specific folder (2012-10-07_4.60.0.3010) into something like "backup" - maybe if Logos doesn't find it, it starts and re-loads the homepage content.

Running as Administrator did the trick. But this leaves me wondering, why or how was Logos working before I clicked the Run as Administrator?

Glad to hear it works for you!

I can't answer that. It seems sometimes something interferes with the access rights. You may try to fix it, see Kevin Becker's thread http://community.logos.com/forums/t/36636.aspx or the wiki page http://wiki.logos.com/Fixing_Logos_4_folder_Ownership

Well Mick, I appreciate your help in fixing that. Yesterday I turned off Shockwave Flash Object and this morning I noticed Adobe Flashplayer was not working. After uninstalling that and reinstalling it about three times, I did a System Restore, totally forgetting about the disabling of the Shockwave Flash Object thingy.
I'm not sure what happened but it took me back several days but nothing was the same on Windows. My programs were gone / not showing up, so after having an ordinary, average, every day run of the mill paniic attack, I finally found the System Restore. Things were so out of sort, System Restore was not even found in the Accessories / System Tools. Anyway, I typed in System Restore in the Run Command and that brought me back to today.
I'm thinking something in that episode threw Logos off track but whatever - I'll read the thread you gave. Again, thanks for coming in and offering your assistance! Much appreciated!!!

After reading the thread you gave Mick, I tried following Kevin's instructions but to no avail. The only way I can get Logos to run is by clicking on Run As Administrator. It works perfectly but after reading that thread, I'm wondering if Logos will update automatically. According to the other thread, it won't.
Has anyone got an update on this yet?

A complete uninstall/reinstall would probably fix it, but I would try a few things first.
- Have you tried opening Logos to a blank layout first?
- C:\Users\Philip Nickerson\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\btzqu1aw.ebi\HomePage\2012-10-07_4.60.0.3010, check the file access permissions and ownership on this folder and contents first. Make certain they work are assigned to your Username on the computer.
- With Logos off I'd rename the C:\Users\Philip Nickerson\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\btzqu1aw.ebi\HomePage to HomePage.temp or something else to try to force Logos to recreate the homepage folder

Thanks Kevin for the reply. I renamed the homepage and Logos does now come up without crashing. But here's the strange thing - the homepage comes up without any pictures - just text here and there.
Since I have you on a roll (rolling your eyes is not permitted) have you an idea as to why this is and can you produce a fix for it. All eyes are upon you tonight Kev. :-)

I'm not entirely sure how Logos creates home pages. I would try refreshing the Home Page with F5 a time or two.
Personally I don't look at the home page too much. I prefer loading Logos to the state I closed it.

Whilst on Homepage, try Shift + F5 to clear the cache

The Shift F5 did the trick. I'm going to use this formula to boil the teakettle tomorrow morning since it worked so well here. Appreciate the help guys!!! Thanks!!!
