Alpha 5 Notes

Typing notes in L5 Mac Alpha5 shows considerable improvement on my system, but is still disturbingly slow. Display will keep up for a few words, then lag three or four words behind, and finally display characters in a rush to catch up. Then, the cycle repeats itself.

Have never timed my typing, but it is not exceptionally fast.

What other panels do you have open? If you start with a blank layout, open just the Note document and edit the contents of the Note, is the lag still as noticeable?

There was no lag, but Notes is rather useless in that scenerio.

Can you see what you need in this screenshot? There was also a floating window which contained ISBE, AYD, and Power Lookup, with Power Lookup in front.

Created a layout with just the front windows in this screenshot, and typing speed was very good. Adding a floating window with the two dictionaries slowed typing speed to a crawl.

Overall, typing response is erratic. Sometimes practically instantaneous, while at others there is considerable delay between typing and display.

Log files were included here Alpha 5 Mac Extremely Sluggish, but that was for a problem of overall sluggishness which resulted from repeated attempts to isolate the typing lag problem.

Expect many bitter complaints from the Mac community if you do not improve this performance prior to the release of L5.

I completely agree, though it provided some useful information without having access to your computer.

Beta 1 should improve the editing experience when typing in a Note on both Mac and Windows. Using the layout in your screen shot, editing a note was much improved.

MUCH improved. Had a couple of times with the display needed to play catchup, but that was infrequent. This will go a long way toward making notes a useful feature—Don't tell Martha I said that.
