Why not open up a section on theology on this forum?
Or, what forums do you recommend to discuss theology?
This has been suggested before, but is beyond the purpose of these forums.
what forums do you recommend to discuss theology?
Have you investigated FaithLife groups?
a bit.
back to the other question. Can anyone recommend good forums on theology?
it has been my experience that when theology gets discussed online, it is not civil or life giving.
In the few times that theological discussions have gone on for an extended period of time in these forums, the discussions has almost invariably become most decidely non-Christian. Sad for me to say but some of the worst offenders have identified themselves as Independent Fundamental Baptists—Sad for me to say since that is the way I identify myself. Been considering dropping the Fundamental part because it seems that the … have taken it over.
I have never used them because it has been my experience that when theology gets discussed online, it is not civil or life giving.
this is why I'd like to see a theology forum here. People here (most of us) have invested heavily in Logos software and a deeply committed to the Christian faith. A lot of wackos on most forums.

No, that is why you do not want to see a theology forum here. Trust me, I have never been on a Christian forum where people are even half as nasty to each other as they are here when feelings start to run hot. Not even 10%, in fact.

That's exactly what he did. He recommended Faithlife. It's Logos, but you can keep the group as open or as closed as you want, thereby controlling what kind of speech you tolerate.
Then you have not seen the theology discussion on this forum. People who use these forums are no different than the people who used other forums to talk about theology. It gets very very very nasty here too.

Josh, Tom is correct. People have invested heavily in Logos but that is nothing compared with the investment they seem to have put into their own personal theology and the way they staunchly defend it.

It's not the defense of their own theology that worries me so much as their attacks on others'.
And therein lies the problem with theological discussions on these forums.
Hi Josh, years ago I started a forum for that very purpose.
forum.divinesoteriology.com Recently since the release of faithlife I also started a group with that specific purpose in mind.
https://faithlife.com/christian-debate/activity. Neither one of them get much activity unfortunately. Not sure if people are just not interested these days, or just don't have the time.
This group has a coffee shop where just this type of dialogue happens. There are also some good discussions on their blogs http://www.reclaimingthemind.org/

Great just signed. No weirdos now; you promised!

sad sad. Hate it when I hear, "you disagree with me? You are just stupid, or a heretic, or worse!

Exactly what I was thinking but didn't spell it out as explicitly because it was already done so by the previous poster.

Appreciate their approach because they challenge people to stop and think about what is is they really believe and why, does it have real scriptural grounding or do they just hold to it, because that's the way it is - folk religion I think they call it.
Some thoughts Bruce
- we are resource rich but time poor - too many competing choices for our time
- previous bad experiences or word of mouth about bad experiences.
- people are looking for something specific and of interest to discuss rather than just a broad open discussion. i.e. discussion around a book the group is reading, or about a specific set of church documents etc I think in general give people something specific to discuss and provide boundaries of what is to be discussed - with larger groups there is greater chance of someone going of topic outside the boundaries - and sometimes it might be something the group decides is relevant to pursue, but having a structure I think works better for more people, but probably not all.
- there are some, possible more people today who simply want to be spoon fed all their life and will never progress beyond spiritual milk to the meatier topics of the Word.
