Crash Logos 4 beta 5 Mac (4.61.3330)

Hi,
Today I've updated the to last beta (4.61.3330) of Logos 4 beta 5. After the automatic download rebooted the program, but it instantly crashed. I'v done a restart and ran the "Maintenance" scripts and tried again, but still it crashes. Lastly I've re-downloaded from the webpage, but (as expected) Logos crashes again.
Included the logging files (I've added the Apple report crash). Hope you can advice me.
Kind Regards,
Hans

Hans – you don't currently have logging enabled. Can you enable logging, restart logos, and get the logs after it crashes?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
You said:
, but according to my terminal (defaults read com.logos.Logos_Bible_Software_4 LoggingEnabled) the logging is enabled. The included ZIP-file comes from a "clean" ~/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Logging folder.alabama24 said:you don't currently have logging enabled.
Included a new ZIP file, which I made just now.
Hope this one is right?
Kind Regards,

I don't know what to tell you… I guess a techie will have to give us more guidance. I checked your new "log" (it is the right one, by the way), but it is fairly empty. The log should be MUCH larger.

Well, thanks for your efforts. I guess the short log-file is a part of the crash-issue. [:(]

Missing in the short Logos4.log file is loading data types, which are in the application bundle.
Wonder about using Upgrade Error steps => http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_Troubleshooting#Update_Error to replace the Logos 4.6a Beta 5 application ?

Thanks for your reply and advice. I've followed the steps of the Update Error troubleshooting guide. But even before Logos is starting the crash is already there (I mean before one can sign in). So, what to do next? :-)
BTW, the link Official Logos 4 Mac Reinstall from step 2 is incorrect (but that an other issue).(2: Uninstall Logos 4 Mac application, using steps from Official Logos 4 Mac Reinstall)

Today I downloaded the Current Beta Release (again), copied my /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4/ folder to an external drive and deleted the whole Logos4-folder.
Then copied the new Logos 4 Beta to Applications and started the program. Unfortunately it did crash again, but it also did created some folders in the Logos4-folder (Logging and Users).
Included the Logging.zip from this exercise:0216.Logging.zip
Any suggestions?0 -

Unfortunately, I'm not much help. Sorry. [:S] I did want you to know that someone at least had read your post.
I am curious: did you read the wiki about uninstalling? If so, how much did you follow?

Hi, great tip!
well, yes, I've now and followed it step by step, but again it crashes.
Logos does start. Then I see the license screen, which one has to accept. Then it took about a second to crash. I also will include this latest crash report (only one file in the Logging folder). To me it's weird. Hope there is someone to guide me in the next try…

I'm running out of ideas… Have you tried starting to a blank layout? Press and hold the command key immediately after starting the app. Check the appropriate box in the login screen.

Do you happen to recall what panels you had open before the program started crashing? The logs aren't super helpful in specifying where the issue is.
Alabama's suggestion to try opening to a blank layout is a good one. If you can open to a blank layout, the most recent 'Application Closed' thumbnail in the Layouts menu might give us an idea of what the program is trying to reopen.
In the meantime, I am going to create a case for the issue, but it may be difficult to resolve the issue without more information.

Wondering if step by step included optional mono key pair deletion ?
Wiki => http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_Troubleshooting#Uninstalling_Logos_4_Mac includes:
Optional: Delete keypairs in /Users/username/.config/.mono/keypairs (folder .config nominally hidden)
Finder => Go menu => Go to Folder... => ~/.config/.mono* (Go) => /Delete*/ keypairs
OR
Open Terminal (inside Utility folder in Applications)
rm -rf ~/.config/.mono/keypairs
Quit TerminalKeep Smiling [:)]

alabama24, Tonya J Ross,
Thanks for your advice. I've started Logos4 with pressing and hold the cmd-key. But before anything comes up (like a login screen) the app crashes.
I've included the log-file from this session (this time Logos created a Logos4.log file, which was missing the last time. See my post of 23 oct above).Keep Smiling 4 Jesus,
Yes, i've indeed included the step of Optional: Delete keypairs in /Users/username/.config/.mono/keypairs (etc.)On this moment I'm not sure what to do next. It's quite a challenge to re-download all my recourse, here in Africa. And because it's not clear to me that the problem is with the recourses, I'm not convinced this will solve the issue?
I've still a copy of Logos4Mac 4.30.213.dmg, will it be an idea to completely uninstall Logos4 and try this Beta?

Concur since the crash is happening before any resources are being read.
One option is completely uninstalling, then install current stable Logos 4.6 SR-2 application. If crash repeats, can contact Logos Technical Support.
Reading rumors about Logos 4.6a Release Candidate 1 so anticipating stable Logos 4.6a release soon.

Now on my To Do list to update soon since official Logos Support pages have changed since Wiki was written.Keep Smiling [:)]

Have done a complete install with current stable Logos 4.6 SR-2 application. As it seems that Logos4 is working fine now. I've re-installed all the resources from before September 13th (for that was the release date of Logos 4.6 SR-2). Logos is now indexing. After this I'll restart and than will start with the download of the updated resources (those which were younger than Sept. 13th, which I deleted).
This hopefully solves my problem, but with the unsatisfactory fact that we didn't tackle the problem with the Beta version.
Anyway, thanks guys.0 -
I'm at a complete loss on this one. I am having the same problems and I have deleted EVERYTHING Logos tagged (including proclaim) with the exception of Libronix (I had it connected to the old Mac 1.2.2 alpha stuff back in the day).
I even completely deleted my resources (although I'm not looking forward to redownloading Scholar Platinum and all the other resources I have built up over the years).
At any rate, I'm still crashing! Any thoughts? I can't get the program to "command" start or anything. I thought I had my logs enabled because I have submitted them in the past, but apparently I didn't. Chilled but frustrated at this point. Calm and collected, just wanting it to work again.0 -

The wiki has some nominally hidden items to delete for a complete uninstall.

Wonder about trying 4.6a Release Candidate 1 ? Since a release candidate is a stable release, if it crashes, can contact Logos Tech Support.
From a human perspective, would need to look at Logos diagnostic log files to see if crash looks similar or different; have seen a variety of causes for Logos 4 crashes.

Yes, running a Bèta can be frustrating, if you have to face the risk of the Bèta program. If your crash-issue indeed is the same (although we didn't get to the bottom of it), then it's almost sure your resources are not the issue. I hope you made a copy of your recourses before you deleted them. If not, then you have submitted yourself to download them all again.
Please follow the links (see above this post) to follow the proper procedures. Sometimes it's a bit technical, but not too difficult. If this challenge is too big, you could consider whether following the Bèta program is the right thing for you to do.
Make sure your logging is switched on again and always post the loggings with your posts. Only then smart guys (not me) can read these files and hopefully suggest a solution. Actually, from my point of view, this was the reason to join the Bèta at the end: to contribute with loggings when anything goes wrong. The benefit for me, then, would be the availability of new technology in Logos4.
In my situation I too couldn't Cmd–Start Logos4 and therefore I decided to go back to the 4.6a Release Candidate 1. If you need to work and have no time to find a solution, this will be your best shot. It took me an hour to re-install Logos4 (except for the download of resources and indexing) and to get back to work again.
On this moment I stick with the last advice of Keep Smiling 4 Jesus. Now I've installed the 4.6a Release Candidate 1 and my crash issue is gone. I've updated only the resources which came later than this 4.6a Release Candidate 1 (approx. 100Mb). On the moment the indexing is at 12% and will take the rest of the day (I guess).
Hope this helps to make a choice.0 -
Thankfully (or maybe regrettable [:P]) I have a PC version of Logos I can access. After reboot the memory issues were cleared and it worked fine. I redownloaded my resources last night and indexing is a little less than half done at this point. I have access to TimeMachine and didn't think about utilizing the update I just made yesterday morning BEFORE the Logos update. I have been using the Logos Mac Betas since the very beginning (which was only a couple years ago) and am very aware of some of the potential problems that come with testing software. Just not sure how I missed my logging becoming turned off. I will fix that once indexing stops. All good here. Still smiling for Jesus, still loving Logos.

In case you weren't aware… in an earlier build, Logos turned logging OFF by default to help speed things up a little for most users. KS4J created a small script application which assists in turning logging on & off with a single click.

Well, great. i left my machine indexing and a new update pulled while i was gone. i clicked, not even thinking that i hadn't re-enabled logging and now I'm getting the same crash but with version 4.61.3347!
Reinstalling, I assumed (not sure at this point because I didn't really get to play with Logos any) everything would be default (stable release, not beta...which I am still okay with).
Grrrr....

Hey David,
Shame man. Maybe it is still possible to switch on the logging and try to get a crash report from this build? At least there is something to compare if your issue is similar to mine.
If you want to do this, then maybe first empty the logging folder to start with a "clean" logging report? See these steps: How to Report Bugs in Logos 4 Mac.Good luck
Update: I see that both releases are pulled by Logos. Maybe we should leave the crash issue like this.
