Logos and non-Logos Resources
I have been a loyal Logos user for 20 years, and during that time have accumulated over 5,400 resources. However, something happened yesterday which left me less than happy.

Jacob Arminius is one of my favorite scholars. I have an old 3 volume hard back copy which I read 30 years ago, and still value. When Logos offered a copy of Arminius, I checked my iPad resources and when I didn't see a copy I made the mistake of ordering one, without checking my PC. I later checked and found a copy from Ages Software. I'm certain customer service will allow me to return the latest order, but that's not the issue.

I have almost 700 resources on my PC, which have not been converted for use on my iPad. I can appreciate there are technical issues involved with some resources. I can also appreciate there are licensing issues with some. However, the latter should have been resolved by now. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, when I see a new Logos edition offered, but my Ages copy remains unconverted. Logos earned licensing fees from Ages in the past, and while I don't have a problem with them offering new editions, I clearly do if they are dragging their feet in obtaining the rights for us to use older copies on our iPads. It may be more profitable not to convert the older resources, but in my mind it clearly is unethical.

Gary, it may also be that Ages does not want the resource to go mobile, or Logos may have lost the right to publish altogether.

Lyndon, I am very aware of that. However, what may or may not be the position of Ages is simply speculation on our part.

The Ages resources seem to be in the same boat as the old E4 resources. I do not think that either will ever get converted to mobile. It is what it is. I have A Brakel's 4 volumes of "The Christian's Reasonable Service" from E4 but have already jumped on the prepub from Logos. I am not mad, companies evolve and these old resources were never made by Logos but third parties. I know many of the other third party resources have been converted I just think these two happen to be in another category. E4 is a non profit group that has not produced libronix resources in many years and AGES just happened to have some resources that worked in Logos. I hope for your sake I am wrong about AGES but I am fairly confident none of my E4 resources will ever see the mobile light of day.

If Logos made a sync program allowing us to install items (i.e.. personal books, none cloudable books, to our phones/tablets) they should not need to get new rights. This is the only way people will ever get all they want on their mobile devices. I am hoping Logos seriously considers it for Logos Mobile….

I also have several E4 resources, and I can appreciate Logos decision not to convert their files. Ages wasn't a rogue outfit, and in my opinion they are different.

Unethical?
Well, I certainly have to agree. I fully expect free software upgrades until I die (and thereafter too so I can maximize my estate). Plus upgraded software for any platform I didn't upgrade from. Plus new software for any platform I might switch to. And resource upgrades for any platform I might switch to. Or platforms I didn't upgrade from.
All for free. This is NOT negotiable.
We were watching the Mormon devotional talk on Sunday afternoon and they made an interesting observation. Being thankful tends to make one more positive. They had a lot more connects as well, but that one 'match' was very interesting.
My spouse isn't Christian, so of course we started wondering about working the logic backward .... Christian negativity means 'not being thankful' and so on.
Ok ... forget that idea. Let's go back to complaining about unethical freebies.

Please find one complaint I have made iN the Logos forums since I started posting years ago. I think you will find where I have defended Logos time after time.

I know you have Gary. [:)]
Have you tried sending Bob an email? I have found Bob to be one of the most responsive CEO's of any company I have interacted with. Even if you end up disagreeing with him, I think you will find him more than willing to listen.

Gary,
My Ages copy of Arminius works just fine on my iPad in the Logos app. I have it open right now, and it copyrighted 1999 by Ages Software.
Have you talked with Logos support about it? I am sure they can help you with this. The old Ages version is definately available on the Logos app. Same is true for Ages version of Wesley and Spurgeon.
However, Ages published versions of these resources for Logos and versions that were pdf. The pdf versions were never compatible with any version of Logos. But if you have a Logos version, it should be available.

These resources were not linked correctly between two of our internal databases. We corrected that this afternoon and they should now be available on mobile and web.

Thank you so much! I am very thankful to have Arminius works on my iPad.

Dave, a great big thank you. I noticed the resources appeared, but the program didn't slow they had ever been downloaded. I had previously downloaded all resources several times. Once again, thank you.
