Installation Scenario Question.

Hi.

If i purchase L5 cross grade I would install it on my computer which has no internet connection.

It has L3 resources on it - I might have the equiv L4 resources backed up somewhere - but I haven't got L4 platform installed.

My question is:

Can I install Logos5 cross grade on it (that is L5 with all L5 features):

1. without an internet connection - it is strictly a computer which is not used for internet related tasks (for years).

2. and will it accept and use my existing collection all ready on that pc.

I am not 100% sure regarding this. What I can confirm is that L5 is available via DVD (there is drop down on the product page). However, I expect you will need an internet connection to activate the product and 'log in' and sync and download the latest version of your resources. This appears to be confirmed on the website which states that an internet connection is required as a 'minimum requirement' (see the details at the bottom of this page, http://www.logos.com/product/24553/portfolio).

I am inclined, therefore, to say that this may not be possible. You may wish to clarify with customer support (presuming someone does not respond definitively here).

L5 installs over the top over L4 and uses your existing resources. L5 will download any additional resources (not in your present collection), updates to resources and data to support new features (where the feature is a part of your L5) package. L5 will also sync your documents (highlights, notes, etc.

if It can't be done without an internet connection initially - I would have to:

'record the Installation' using an Installer Recording tool - which saves every thing that the installation does - then save the recording - and play it on my non internet pc.
then I'd have to back up my laptop and update L5 on my laptop so all resources are installed that I want.
then i'd have to save all the settings, and resources and copy them onto my non internet pc.

as you can see, I dont really want to do that! hmmmm.

Hopefully someone will post an 'official' solution or a better one...

I don't know your situation and so this may not be practical, but I would be inclined to take your PC to a location where you can access the internet in order to install and authorise the software. You can then remove the PC to your non-internet available location and run L5. Do keep in mind, however, that you will lose functionality. You will not receive updates and your documents will not sync.

You would need advice from someone more techy than I as to whether this is possible. I agree that even if it is possible it may not be feasible. Plus, I suspect you would still need internet access to authenticate and authorise your credentials. I could, however, be wrong on this latter point.

my pc is capable of accessing the internet, but it is set apart - it cannot access the internet - this ensures that patentable and private material/code isn't 'leaked' onto the internet. it is also my main bible study computer - where the heavy duty stuff happens.

I only use my laptop for light computing, - and for things of a low 'data theft' value nature.

To be honest, I am not sure I can help you (given your very specific circumstances).

It may be someone more tech-y than I will have a work around. Otherwise, you could try emailing tech support. I am not hopeful that there will be a feasible and supported alternative to your situation... But, hey, I could very easily be wrong! [:D]

You would first need to install L5 on your laptop and use Method1 as a guide to its installation on the PC. But there are some additional steps & complications:-

download the full (standalone) .NET 4.5 installer from MS and install on PC
install DXSetup from files in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Logos5\Install\Installers
in order to preserve the unique documents and resources on the PC treat this an in-place update & ignore Step 4 (and custom bits of Step 3) but copy across the licence file from \Data\randomid\LicenseManager
Scan the laptop resource folder after the main installation is complete in order to get the L5 databases and resources

Now, this is untried and comes with no guarantees.
