I clicked merge index- well it started indexing- and guess what, it got to 2hrs 30 min and indexer stopped working- just like on the original download.
Is there a work around?
Whyndell,
I believe you can "pause indexing for 4 hours" and then keep "pausing" it...until you get to a more convienent time.
I don't undrstand what u mean by a more convienent time.
But it has indexed for the 2nd time and crashed again- "logos 4 indexer has stopped" I paused it but I can't gaurantee this will make a difference.
If this happens everytime someone indexes their resources- like in the search mode- it will cause some unhappy customers- like me right now.
I have a feeling I will be doing a new install- which is not good at all [:(]
Whyndell, there are a couple of options to try before reinstalling Logos4. One is simply restarting your computer. This would exit the indexer service, and it may just correct itself. If I understand how it works, the old index isn't overwritten until the new one is finished. Anyway, I'm hoping that's the case, since that would mean you wouldn't have to merge your index after a reboot.
One possible cause of your indexing crash is lack of HD space. So before re-indexing, you'll want to make sure you have enough free space on your hard drive. Logos4 system requirements for install are 12GB free. Since you have L4 installed, I'm not sure you need 12GB anymore, but you do need somewhere around 2-4GB (depending on the size of your resource directory), since the index file is somewhere around 20-25% of the size of the resource directory (at least on mine).
If rebooting (then re-indexing) doesn't work, it's possible to simply delete the index files themselves and have Logos4 rebuild them from scratch. You'd have to do that anyway with a reinstall, so this could save you a few steps. I'm not sure of the procedure for that at the moment, and searching these forums for that info is nigh unto impossible. But if you need it, I'll see what I can find.
Hopefully a Logos tech can respond and give you more specific steps to try.
In the mean time, a simple reboot could get you going again, and it's a cheap and easy. Try it and report back with what happened.
If you are doing this on a Laptop, it could be a space issue for you. On my laptop I had a problem with the main index and supplemental index taking up to much space and I couldn't combine them, with what space I had left on my hard drive. So I went in and deleted the indexing files and everything went just fine and I ended up with a new master index file.
I have, which is my #2 machine, Dell Inspiron 9400, 4GB Ram, 20GB on my HD, but have L4 installed to my external HD which has 720GB available.
I will try restarting my laptop.
I had it installed, running great- until I inadvertently told it to merge indexes.

I did not know you could do that. Or I at least thought it not advisable to put on a drive other than C:

Matthew,
for my desktop I have installed it to an external drive and it has worked whatout any problems.
I had to create a file called Logos on the external drive and installed to that file location. It is working well on the external drive.

Is this a way to protect the Logos 4 installation from my little kids destroying or compromising it? If I Install to an external drive and disconnect the cable when I'm not using it would it cause any problems? Can all relevant notes be saved to the external drive? Can that external drive be used with my desktop and laptop after mapping a s a network drive? If so, my old laptop may gain another couple years reprieve.
