Logos 5 keeps crashing while signing in.

I purchased the bronze package on Monday and have been using it / learning it for several days. Suddenly last night I came home from work and found that I cannot successfully log on. It indicates that it is signing in but then simply stops. I get a message indicating that Logos 5 has unexpectedly stopped. I reopened, rebooted and sent error messages to Apple but still it does not work. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

    Hi Wayne,

Could you turn on diagnostic logging, and post your logs. Hopefully that will tell us what's going on (see 'How to ask for help', below).

Wayne Since you mentioned sending a report to Apple, I am assuming that you are on a Mac.

Logs will be needed for anyone to provide assistance.

KS4J has created an Applescript that will enable/disable logging for you 5504.Logos4MacLogging.app.zip

You can also download 6403.Logos Log Scribe R2.zip which will locate, assemble, archive, and place the file on your desktop all ready for posting.

Just click the little paper clip in the tool bar and attach the file

Yes I am on a Mac. I've tried attaching the file via the paper clip but it doesn't seem to work. Is the tool bar you mention in my email or in the forum? I cannot seem to locate it in either.

It is at the top of the compose message bar.

I couldn't attach the whole file folder, so I attached three of the four files from the folder. the fourth file was 0 kb.

Go to /Users/waynebriscoe/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/m866gms2.bnm/BibleIndex/  and delete that folder (BibleIndex), then try to restart Logos 5. This should force a full re-indexing of the Bible Index which is the source of your indexing crashes.

    Hi Mark,

I'm having the same problem as the one on this thread.  Can you help me out? I'm attaching what was produced by Logos Log Scribe.4174.LogosLogs Mark Carter 20121112-133514.gz

I'm attaching what was produced by Logos Log Scribe.

Unfortunately, you left out the first step. Your logs indicate that logging is not enabled. Download KS4J's Applescript and enable logging. Then when L5 crashes, post your logs again.

Here is the Logos Log after enabling logging

Seeing that you did not previously have logging enabled is about the extent of my log reading abilities. Hopefully, someone more technically inclined will answer.

    Mark,

You've sent your Mac system log, rather than your Logos log. That doesn't contain all the information we need, but does contain your personal email addresses and telephone number. If that matters to you, you might like to edit your post and remove that attachment, then upload the Logos log instead.

Here is the Logos Log after enabling logging.6825.LogosLogs Mark Carter 20121112-150008.gz

After reading Mark Barnes' reply to your post, I took a look at your logs. When you use KS4J's Applescript, you must restart L5 for the logging to commence. I apologize that I did not mention that earlier. From the logs in the archive, it would appear that a restart was not performed.

Now that L5 has crashed, logging should be enabled. If you open the Applescript, the dialog box should tell you that logging is enabled. Then, if L5 crashes again, please post logs again. Again, I apologize for the incomplete instructions.

Thank you, Mark Barnes for catching my error. The Console Message file may provide development with some useful information.

Dave, we need a different set of logs to be uploaded  as per  http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging

For simplicity, just zip the \Logos Log Files folder and attach as described (using the paper clip icon).

It appears you have a corrupted database

Rename  C:\Users\White Buffalo\AppData\Local\Logos5\Data\d0pvdpse.fsb\ReverseInterlinearManager\reverseinterlinearmanager.db and start Logos, which should rebuild the database.

It appears to be downloading a new database.  Hope it all works out now.  Thanks for your help.

Mine is also crashing at this same point.

    When you are signing in?

The crash is connected with a Guide, so let me suggest you open to a blank layout. If that works and your normal layout still crashes L5, then you will have to rebuild the layout.

Dave (or anyone), I just installed Logos 5, and have experienced the same crash at the sign in window.  I have rebooted, I have tried working off-line, I have tried loading a blank workspace, and I have moved a couple of the files mentioned in this thread. (I have since returned them since moving them made no difference).

The error log says: Error ID: 1586 Error detail: DatabaseVersionException: The database schema (1011) is
newer than the latest schema recognized by this code (1010). The
    database cannot be opened.

    Any ideas?

Have you ever been able to get Logos 5 to run since installing it? From the error logs it seems it is failing when it is looking to upgrade some of the Logos databases, specifically the prayer list database, (which would suspect would be a one-time task).

Logs show you are running Windows 7 SP1 so that should not be an issue.

At this point, with such a technical error, it may be best to call Logos technical support.

Logos 5 has never run for me at all.  I have an email sent to tech support, although i have not heard back yet. Thanks.

Tech support had me delete the prayerlist directory and it loaded fine.  (I tried to do that but could not find it!)

Great — enjoy using version 5.

Recommend this video http://www.logosbiblesoftwaretraining.com/introducing-v5/   from Mark Barnes to get a good feel for what's new in version 5. I downloaded it and had it running next to Logos 5 and loaded up the new features as Mark went through them.
