Do you have any other logs?

Please enable Logging ( wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging ) and upload your logs ( wiki.logos.com/Uploading_Logs ) so we can take a look.

    Thanks.

Looks like it cant find the driver to play the sound file. But it worked fine with Logos 4.

How strange that those logs were blank!  Do you have full time logging turned on?

    On to the problem:

    Um. I have nothing.

Full time debugging is enabled and no driver issues noted in Computer Management.

    Tom,

Thank you for posting in the forums.  I have seen this issue once already and is seems to be stemming from an issue with the .net framework, we would want to uninstall .net with this link: http://www.logos.com/media/tech/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip.
Download the zip and open it.  Run the cleanup_tool program.
Have the drop down set to .NET Framework - all versions, then click Cleanup Now.

    Once
that process finishes please click the download button at this link and select
    Run: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653.
If this does not resolve the issue I would advise contacting Microsoft to
assist in fixing the .net framework.

    That should resolve the issue.

    Steve

This is a crash trying to play the startup sound. Unfortunately, I can't think of a workaround to disable the startup sound without launching the application. (Do you have a second computer? If so, you may be able to turn off the "Play Sounds" setting on that machine, and have it sync to this machine with the problem.)

We'll add a fix in the next 5.0 service release.

Is this something that could be changed in the registry, or does Logos not store the "Play Sounds" setting in the registry? This is a setting that I would think people wouldn't want synced between their different machines. I personally keep startup sounds off for all my apps all the time, but I could imagine someone who doesn't mind it at home but doesn't want it sounding at the office where it might annoy others.

    Steve,

Running the .NET uninstall, restarting then running the downloaded did not solve the problem. I re-installed all the frameworks, used Microsoft fix-it finding no errors and repairing various packages attempting to run logos 5 along the way with no avail.

I am also a .NET developer, don't have too much time to poke around but will try some things out. Wife was visiting (Mobilized Army reserves) so I spent time with her rather than playing on the computer this weekend.

I have a Windows 7 N x64 bit MSDN running with minimal install including Office 2010. This is a fresh install as of approx 2.5 weeks ago when I put in new drives RAID 1 config.

Logos 4 was working fine and no problems with any other apps I tried to run either. Not sure how Logos 5 is initializing the Wave player.

Running WIN 8 in Virtual PC (VMWare) ant it loads and plays sound with my default device. However, I don't want to download all 13+ GB of resources from my primary account so I logged in with a secondary account.

If there is a workaround in adding a record to a particular sqlite db let me know as I can do that.

    GOT IT! WOO HOO!

Go figure I needed to download and install this:

Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N with Service Pack 1 and Windows 7 KN with Service Pack 1 (KB968211)

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16546&hash=hC%2fk5qQU0O1a5ZCAMpOFEZt4J%2bw%2ft6kZw%2bmplBnR1vyBvjFXz9z6xwSV90BJpOLTqrGoRO8jeitv6Mr3SuKFww%3d%3d

Windows 7 N and Windows 7 KN editions include the same functionality as Windows 7, except that these versions of Windows do not include Windows Media Player, and related technologies.

Didn't realize that it would bomb like that, interesting that I could play music and .wav sounds. Guess Logos uses wmv or other codec.

Thanks for letting us know the solution.

I'm still not entirely sure why it would fail if that feature pack is missing (we use MP3, not WMV) but perhaps it installs some necessary system components.

We knew that feature pack was needed for video resources on Windows 7 N, but didn't realise it was necessary for the startup sound.
