Hi

Is there a way to search the CCC's Index as part of the search feature on the iPad?  I have an exam coming up, and have gotten permission to use the Logos on iPad (in Airplane mode).  The exam will heavily test our ability to use the Index in the Catholic Catechism.  Nothing I've tried seems to work.

Any thoughts or hints?

Thanks - and Gob bless

I am note quite sure I understand your question.  It works just like a regular index except that once you find the index item you can click on the link and it takes you right to the page.  Just go to the index (it's in the table of contents), find the item (they're listed alphabetically just like the paper version) and then you can go directly to the CCC number referenced by clicking the link.

or are you talking about something else?  Can you give us an example of how you would be tested on using the index?

    Hi

Thanks for the follow-up.  I don't see the blue arrow to the right of the word 'index'.  I touch on the word 'Index' and I'm taken to the comments above the letter 'A'.  It would be great if I could hit the bue arrow, then pick the letter.  But I don't have the blue arrow...

Thanks for any thoughts on this...

Ah, I see.  Well, that isn't possible (that I could determine), at least the clicking on the letter for the index.  I'll see if this is done for other books, either way I'll make a suggestion to the mobile team for this as it would be handy but probably wouldn't be high on the priority list of things to add.

But I did see a way to do something like this.  I am using an iPad device, I think the same thing can be done on an iPod though I'm not sure since I do not have one.

If you select the page so that the UI on the top and bottom show up, you'll notice a slider on the bottom of the page.
Grab the slider and move it until you are in the "Index" section, though using the TOC method you used before to get to the Index will make quicker to get there.
Then if you keep sliding to the right you will notice that it starts showing some of the words on the pages of the Index.  (The bug here that I see on my version, which may be a beta, is that the Index section before you get to the items in the index is too long)
Keep sliding until you get close to the words you want to find in the index and you will now be close to the page you want to be on.
You might need to slide the pages left or right to get to the exact item in the index.

Hope this helps, though it might be easier to explain visually but I'm not certain how I can capture video of my mobile device.

    Hi

The technique you describe seems to work very nicely for the glossary, but not for the index. It's almost as if the index in on large piece of text, with embedded hyperlinks ...

Perhaps I'm not doing this correctly, although the technique works well on other parts of the CCC...

    Thanks again

No you're doing it right.  I mentioned before that I found the bug you're seeing where the slider is taking a while to get to the items in the index (though perhaps I wasn't clear as it's kindof hard to describe).  I have reported the issue as it would be great to have it behave as expected.

    Hi Ted,

The issue you are seeing is a problem with the resource, not with Logos on iOS.  This resource on Logos Desktop acts exactly the same way - the Index is a single topic with no hierarchical categories.  I'll write up a case for our documents department.  Thanks for the report.
