Can someone explain the benefit? What would I use this for? I have some guesses but I'd like to hear your uses.
Kevin,
Glad you resolved the problem.
For me, the datasheet is probably one of the most significant improvements. It really reduces my need for other software.
The main benefit is that it allows you to easily group results by dragging and dropping the various categories from the header.
This is a very user friendly and powerful way to aggregate search results into a lot of useful arrangements.
Taking your search for predestined in the ESV, for instance, returns 5 results in 5 verses. Using the datasheet view, one can quickly rearrange the results to find that they are all aorist tense, three are indicative mood and two are participles, four are active voice and one is passive.
For those who do a lot of work in original languages, this is very powerful.
Probably 30% of my need for Accordance was eliminated by this functionality.

Assuming the planned addition of verse lists, word lists, vocabulary lists, and sentence diagramming in a stable Mac version, I would break it down like this:
- 50% = user friendly interface to build complex morphological searches on both biblical and non-biblical texts. It really helps me to be able to visualize the construction.
- 10% = custom highlighting styles so I can do my synoptic highlighting
- 5% = speed for opening program and quickly getting to a particular Bible text (I'm currently running Logos 4 in Parallels so this isn't fair comparison and I am learning ways to configure Logos 4 that help with getting what I need quickly)
- 5% = ability to import searchable non-biblical Greek texts (TLG)
I've got a feeling that we will be at 95% by the middle of next year. Am I right?

Run the special beta installer here: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/InstallerBeta/Logos4Setup.exe
I'm not sure where to post bugs, so I'll post here...
Install went fine, over the top of the latest SR for 4.0.
Beta appears to be working correctly, but it appears on my setup to have lost the ability to remember whether [Edit] SOME windows were minimized or not at last.
My default layout now includes a main window & 6 floating windows. The floating windows are all saved minimized. However, 4.0a prefers [edit] ONE not to be minimized at startup, in contrast to the last SR release, that remembered how I had set them. This is true whether it's the snapshot that loads at startup or whether I reload my saved layout. [Edit] The one that won't load minimized is The Bible Reader's Companion.
Thanks for all you folks do for us!

Ok, let me ask a pretty basic question. Assume, for the sake of argument, that while I am aware of the disclaimer at the beginning of this thread, I fully intend to install Logos4aB1 on my main production machine. (I create entire system image backups weekly, so even on a meltdown, I am in good shape).
What is the best way to "upgrade" to the beta? Do I have to uninstall Logos 4.0? Can I install over the top? My main concern is:
- downloading resources over again
- Indexing everything over again from scratch.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Just install over the top.
I've now done it on two machines.
You run the installer - it replaces what needs replacing.
Nothing is indexed.

I've done a reinstall of L4 beta, redownloaded, and just finished indexing. I'm still getting nothing good from opening resources. I click a resource, and L4 crashes every time.

Yulp. Uninstalled L4, deleted the L4 folder, reinstalled, and no love.

Philip,
I'm in the exact same situation. I even did a complete uninstall of L4. Now I'm in the midst of installing L4 again, well it's downloading resources anyway. I did have it open earlier, and after clicking on something in my library: crash.

Everything seems to work fine aside from two things (so far):
1. Some of my note files were unnamed, although the information in them was not effected. For example, I had a note file called "Reymond's Systematic Theology," which had notes I've taken and linked to that theology, the file (along with several others) was retitled "Untitled notes," but all my notes and the links were still there.
2. All of my highlights are gone.

The beta still has the problem of the black title bar. I have not EVER heard this addressed by Logos. Logos do you know this is an issue and are you working on it?

Kevin (good name BTW), I don't have this issue on Win 7. My top title bar uses the Aero glass effects just fine.
It would be interesting to see who has this problem and who doesn't.

Kevin, I have this same issue on my desktop at home. I filed a bug report during beta testing, but they have not been able to reproduce it. It doesn't seem to be very common. I'll let to your post in the case to let them know that at least one other person is having this problem.
If anyone else is having this problem, please chime in.

I have this problem as well Win7 64bit, ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card.
Sometimes I can get it to go away by minimizing and restoring. More often I can't.
(I'm not yet on the beta for 4.0a, but wanted to chime in anywa.)

Well, I just found I also lost all my highlighting. Not a disaster but not nice. I have Beta on the same computer but in the different User Profile. It killed my highlighting in the main Logos 4 and in the Beta :-(

I've seen it now and again on Vista x64 Ultimate. Usually resizing the window fixes the issue. I have not seen the black title bar on Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit) on my laptop.

I installed Logos 4a beta1 over Logos 4 SR7. Now, I cannot start the program. It will always crash right after starting logos 4. I am running it on Windows 7 x64.

Should I have done something differently?

Most of the people who have had problems, including me originally, had them when trying to install on a different user account.
My upgrade worked perfectly, so I'm a bit stumped.

I had the same problem, crash after opening any resource, after doing a install over my existing L4. I also had the problem after uninstalling the l4 beta, deleting all the files, and re-installing the beta.

My beta install is still working fine. After reading about everyone's trouble, I decided not to reinstall a new copy and kept the one I talked about in earlier posts.
The process that worked for me was:
- Created second user account (using XP if that is relevant)
- downloaded and installed beta setup file
- stopped resource download
- replaced all directories in c:/beta account/Local Settings/Application Data/Logos4/Data/random.num/ with content from previous L4 install (some of these directories are DownloadManager, ResourceManager, etc.)
- started L4 - it did not download or index - everything was good - peachy even
- when I realized that I was missing my collections, I replaced the directory c:/beta account/Local Settings/Application Data/Logos4/Documents/random.num/ResourceCollectionManager with the directory from the old install - my collections automagically reappeared
I'm not sure if I should have copied the whole Documents folder from the previous install or not. I haven't noticed anything obviously wrong with my beta install. It seems a bit more responsive. The Cited By and Datasheet are significant improvements.

Dittos to everything you just said - more responsive and it has yet to crash on me despite a few days test driving it. I too enjoy the improvements. Thanks again, Logos!

I also have the "black bar" problem, on Win 7 x64.

Just a quick question, is there a way for me to install the beta version on to a seperated folder on the same machine which already have logos 4 without creating a new user profile?
