Peace, Pat!               *smile*                                        Just for the curiosity of it, I performed the following search ...

    image

When I searched for (spirit OR helper) NEAR truth, I got 158 results -- all from a Greek Testament ..   Will have to go back to the drawing board, eh???  (They were all from various versions of the Septuagint!   Very strange!    *smile*   )

This is a valid search.  You might want to change the term NEAR to AND.

hmmmm... I would expect (spirit OR helper) NEAR truth = spirit NEAR truth + helper NEAR truth.  I too get zero matches for (spirit OR helper) NEAR truth.   I get 678 matches for spirit NEAR truth, and I get 12 matches for helper NEAR truth.

This does look like a bug to me (or I do not understand the search string).

I seem to recall having problems with OR in parentheses in the past. A better way to do the search is

    (Spirit, helper) NEAR truth

The "," is the same as the OR operator (at least in parentheses)

It's NOT a valid search. It should be (spirit, helper) NEAR truth.

See http://wiki.logos.com/Detailed_Search_Help#Using_lists for a brief explanation.

It's not the same as the OR operator (which is why the comma works and OR doesn't). But it functions the same way in some circumstances.

Thank you, Mark!           I truly appreciate your post!     I'm trying to learn well so I can be an effective helper; and I think I've taken a positive step over against using "lists" and "the comma"!

What a difference when one does it correctly, eh?                              Peace!                  and ...           Always Joy in the Lord!

Mark's fix worked for me: (spirit, helper) NEAR truth

I can say that I learned something new today.  Thanks Mark

I do have to say that if a lot of people were tripped up with this, the search should be made more user friendly.

I agree. Logos should display a warning message should result if you try and combine binary and proximity searches, and suggest using lists instead. Unfortunately, if you get the syntax of a search wrong, Logos just tries to guess what you meant, and runs the search on what it thinks you meant, rather than on what you typed.

Milford, I have been with logos
since 2003 started with L3 then L4 and now L5. I just wanted to say thank you
for being so consistent in how you treat people on these forums. You always have a kind word to
say and I find that refreshing. We could use a little more of that in our world
today.  *Smile*  keep up the great work.

I am by no means taking
away kudos for those of you that help people everyday on these forums. You all

You, Brother William, have a very kind heart, and I most certainly appreciate your very kind words.  I truly do!      *smile*     Thank you!             Any honour and glory to God alone, of course!  And to our Lord Jesus Christ!

I am a retired Lutheran Pastor who's been privileged to study Logos since around 1993 and am still very, very excited and enthusiastic about how we can truly study God's Holy Word electronically as well as reading the Holy Bible according to our ancient traditions which is also so beautiful!    I have been privileged to have great training and background in the Word and want to provide to others the "keys" to use Logos Bible Software Powerfully and Effectively!

I now live in Ontario, Canada about 25 miles East of Toronto!  My wife is out with our grandboys this evening, and I eagerly await her coming home to share with my bride of 51 years your kind and positive and very helpful and encouraging remarks!
