Help with Bible Sense Lexicon
Hey there.
First, let me say that my questions are real and not meant to provoke, be argumentative or theological in nature. I'm asking to understand better how to use the tool and Logos overall.
I was reading Col 4:6 and thought I'd check out the BSL on Grace. I clicked open the interlinear pane and noticed that Grace was 'grace (outworking).' Fair enough. I then clicked on the words 'grace (outworking)' which opened the BSL. In the left column, I clicked the hyperlink to open a BWS on charis. In the Senses section of the BWS, it advises that there are 7 senses for the word charis.
At this point, I simply wanted to see the verses that BSL attributed to each sense. But I cannot figure out how. For example, next to 'thanks', I see the chart that shows 13 verses attributed to this sense.
How can I open those verses to read?

Basically do a Bible search using the original language lemma with a sense number at the front.

I'm likely wearing on your patience, MJ. For that I apologize. Can you post an example of the search you're suggesting? I understand the bible search using the lemma... but a sense number? Where would I get that?

That 1 in the BWS is from the Lexicon, which contains multiple definitions of the word. It is not a sense #.
I know of no easy way to accomplish what Tom is seeking here.

Yeah... Wondering if one of the Logos scholars that deal with this stuff would chime in.... It'd be super helpful and being able to see the verses that each sense of the word is culled from or assigned to would be REALLY helpful.

The ability to search cases where a particular sense occurs (regardless of lemma) is a key feature of Bible Sense Lexicon. This "sense concordance" capability is definitely coming soon, so don't lose hope!
Until there, here's the best workaround i can suggest:
- Start with BWS on a word like "grace"
- Pick a lemma in the word wheel, like "χάρις" and select it. Now you'll see a concordance below, and the lemma itself is a link to BWS on that lemma.
- From there you can click on the reference for a verse of interest, and then use the interlinear ribbon to see which sense is used
- Or, you can look at BWS on that lemma and see the different senses (7 for "χάρις")
You can also type lemmas into the search box for BSL (including strings like "g:charis") and the dropdown will show you all the available senses that lemma expresses.

Thanks for the correction - the highest prioritized lexicon sense number not the Logos Bible Sense Lexicon sense number.

Thanks for the correction - the highest prioritized lexicon sense number not the Logos Bible Sense Lexicon sense number.
I think they are better called homonym numbers, since homonyms are separate words with disparate meanings, but senses are variations in meaning of the same word.
