Blowing a valve while rev'ing up L5 - Saturday in the South

When I saw that the new L5 library allows you to filter the library to 'open books' of course I had to try it. 82 books open!!

Next I timed opening an 82 book layout (5 languages and who knows how many fonts): 30 seconds!

Next, I decided to time opening a 20 book layout. Probably faster than I could blink my eyes!! And maybe so:

No need for a 'bug' report unless someone else does this too.

I'm surprised to hear you say this. Logos is hands-down the slowest program I run. I thought nothing could be slower than Logos 4 and thought certainly they have improved this in Logos 5 but, no, Logos 5 is even slower than Logos 4.

I know it is not my mac since it's only a year old and running double the RAM it came with. Plus, this is the. only. program. that runs slow.

I guess I'll plan my research around lunch time so I can type in "lemma:" and the first letter and go make a sandwich while I wait for the drop-down to open.

Peace to you, Michael! Sorry about Logos 5 running so slowly for you! My personal experience has been more like Denise has experienced. I'm quite surprised - very pleasantly surprised - how fast Logos 5 is for me!

Curious about Mac model ? especially hard drive since Apple uses 5400 RPM drives for longer battery life, which noticeably slows down Logos.

Logos is a resource intensive application, which benefits from fast processor (e.g. 2nd or 3rd Generation Intel i5 or i7), fast storage (e.g. SATA III Solid State Disk), and graphics with dedicated memory.

Personally partitioned hard drive so Logos consistently has the fastest transfer speeds; OS X 10.8.2 is installed in the second fastest partition.

Apple's Disk Utility can be used to partition hard disk. Personally started with a new hard disk.

Newer Solid State Disk (SSD) does not need partitioning for performance improvement since controller distributes writes across storage.

As KS4J suggests, slow disk speed is the biggest factor in performance in this and many other places in Logos. It might well be worth running a disk speed check to see what performance you're getting. Something like this, maybe: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/blackmagic-disk-speed-test/id425264550
