I am looking for resources which would help me to study more Biblical background. I do have AYBD, and some good other dictionaries like IVP series on OT and NT.
Which commentaries are good for Biblical background. I do have IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament , and IVP Bible Background Commentary: New Testament but I need more depth. So far I see Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary: New Testament and Old Testament (9 vols.), How good it is? Any other commentaries, or books which would deal more directly with the sertain passages? Thanks in advance
Hi Slava
Have you seen http://community.logos.com/forums/t/42491.aspx? It provides some useful pointers in this area.

Hi Slava,
I think William Barclay does a really good job with background. He has depth of knowledge of the culture of the time that is often insightful. Individual books are available or the set is available here:

Good news on this one. It is on sale from the upgrades page. I've been eying it myself. [:)]
Thanks for the link and suggestion. Any other suggestion?
You may also wish to consider the Socio-Rhetorical Commentary Series by Ben Witherington III, et al. The series is detailed, scholarly and highly regarded (particularly the volume on 1 Corinthians). I, personally, have found this set helpful and engaging.
You can check it out, here,

It is worth noting that other more recent editions are available separately in Logos. You may wish to factor that into the cost should you intend to acquire the entire set at any point.
Blessings,
