Hello everyone!

What better to help you during this Year of Faith than a copy of the Catholic Encyclopedia in your Logos software! If you wanted to buy this set of books used it would cost you around $400. It is currently trending at $30, but I think that price is way too low.

Please bid! Let's make this a reality!

    Better would be BOTH the Catholic Encyclopedia AND the Jewish Encyclopedia.  Bid, bid, bid.

    I'm already in at $110. Hope it goes for less, but it's worth that to me.

    I've been in too for several months now, but it doesn't seem to be moving much lately.

    The Catechism? The Vatican II documents? [;)]

    But apart from that, I do wish we could get The Catholic Encyclopedia moving. Unfortunately, that isn't likely to happen unless people raise their bids to $50 or so.

    And, yes, I want The Jewish Encyclopedia as well. [:)]

    Me too. The Jewish Encyclopedia looks much more doable in the short term. It's already over 60% and that seems to be some sort of a breaking point for momentum. Come on, folks! Anyone else want to jump on board? Now's the time. It'll probably go over the top at $50 but will likely go down even lower before bidding closes.

    The Jewish one is 12 vols for $50, the Catholic one is 17 vols for $30. Small wonder the Jewish one is better off, even though the Catholic one's actually got more bids.

    Add to that the fact that the Catholic one must have added a huge number of links in the last year, and will add more for every month that goes by, and one starts to suspect that the costs for producing it may easily rise faster than our combined bids.

    By the way, I'm rather surprised they didn't include the Catholic Encyclopedia in the new Verbum base packages, and got it into production that way. What a missed opportunity! It belongs there.

    You'll be in for many months more -- not to say many years more -- unless you raise to $50.[;)]

    OK, Am in for $50.  Who else will join the 50 party?

    [[The cost for getting a resource are fixed.  It takes $xxx.  There are fewer people after this resource than some others so it is going to cost each of us more $$$$.

    $50 is only $3 per volume.  $2 per volume is nice but will we ever get it?]]

    ... and even if many many others do that too, it won't be enough: Right now for $30 it is reaching ~30%, so we need all the people bidding at $30 now to raise the bids to more than 3 times $30 or close to $100 to get it into production!

    Interestingly if you want to know what happens if all bidders at $30 increase to $50, continue reading. If you're not into solving equations, skip the rest. For $50 it's at 10% (very roughly). Even if every bidder at $30 raise their bids to $50, we would end up with about 60% of the cost. If you're wondering how I came up with this, here's the math behind it:

    If the cost of production is $X, the number of bidders now at $30 = A and the numbers of bidders now at $50 = B, then:

    A = 30% * X / $30

    B = 10% * X / $50

    If everyone at $30 changes their bid to $50, the number of people bidding at $50 would be A+B = 30% * X / $30 + 10% * X / $50

    Common denominator at $150, the equation becomes A+B = 180% * X / $150

    Let the new % of cost at $50 be Y%, then it's also true that A+B = Y% * X / $50

    Solving for Y we get 60%.

    I look at the total number of pages rather than how many volumes. 13,712 for the Catholic encyclopedia vs 8,235 for the Jewish one. So all things being equal (which they in reality they're not), one would assume it takes 66% more time (translate: $) to produce one vs the other.

    The cost for getting a resource are fixed.

    Actually, no. As I wrote above, the cost to produce this series must be constantly rising, as more Catholic resources are shipped and the number of possible links increase. Though I guess it's possible they've written some scripts by now that can automate some of the process.

    There are fewer people after this resource than some others

    Well, there are fewer people than for the top four CP's. [:)]  Yes, sort by Bestselling and you'll see that there are only four CP's with more bids than this. And the Jewish one comes right after.

    I know, but convincing people to raise to $50 might be doable; try $100 and the vast majority will ignore you and stay at $30. Remember that many of the bidders are Evangelicals. They're willing to pay a low price to have it for reference, but most of them are unlikely to be willing to go very high. I doubt even I would pay $100. I'd just wait for L6, where it's bound to be included.[:P]

    The main thing right now is to gain some momentum. To get it to 50%. Then 60%. Get it seen by people who never look at more than the first 20-30-40 CP's.
