After downloading Logos 5, Mac, the Timeline function is missing from the Tools menu. How can I get this function?
Most likely by waiting until the downloading and indexing is finished.[;)] (There is supposed to be two downloads.)
It completed download and indexing a couple of days ago. I quit and restarted several times, but no further download activity or indexing.
Which package do you have - base package, minimal crossgrade, core datasets?
Edit: I ask because this feature is not included in the Starter base package.
I upgraded with the Bronze package.
I have been having trouble with the Timeline and have been in touch with the Tech Support people. They are still working on my problem. If any of you have the ISBE and are using Logos 5 on Mac try something for me. Go to the article on Jebus, go to the second paragraph, and click on the Timeline flag there for 3rd millennium B.C. Let me know what happens. When I do it the program crashes.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Randy
So the standard solution didn't work this time. [:)]
And Graham covered the second option.
Hmm. Does it say Logos 5 at the top? (I think I've seen some cases where people have still been on L4 after trying to upgrade.)
Do you have the rest of the resources and databases you should have?
Randy,
I have a Mac and just upgraded yesterday from L4 Leader to L5 Bronze. Along with that, I bought the ISBE.
Just did what you asked and didn't get a crash, for that flag or any of the others in that paragraph.

Thanks for checking. That's the only place I get a crash. The Techs have not figured it out yet either. Glad you don't have that problem.
Thanks for considering this. My upgrade does say Logos Bible Software 5 at the top and as far as I can tell, so far, I have all my resources from L4, including notes I've made, Passage guides I've designed, etc. I have also tried the various TOOLS which all function properly.

I recently purchased the ISBE – went to the entry you mention and clicked on the flag next to "3rd" in this text...
"date from the 3rd millennium b.c."
the timeline window comes up, it takes some time to populate (it is 1,000 years with around 9,000 entries) but comes up after a while.
Sorry I missed getting back to you.

I meant: do you have the rest of the new L5 resources and databases you should have? (I'm trying to ascertain whether you're missing a whole download, or if it's just the timeline that's causing trouble.)
Have you tried the Update resources command?
I can't find an "UPDATE RESOURCES" command, so haven't tried that. Also, I don't know how to ascertain whether I have the new L5 resources & databases I should have.
I've tried most all of the functions I do have, e.g. searching, passage analysis, explorer, copy verses, text comparison, power lookup, etc. and they all work.

You need to type it into the command bar as below:
Also, I don't know how to ascertain whether I have the new L5 resources & databases I should have.
You should be able to check this via "Logos | About Logos Bible Software 5" as per http://community.logos.com/forums/p/60699/430900.aspx#430900
Graham
You just type Update resources in the command box and hit Enter. (You can try Update now first as it is much faster, but also less thorough.)
I don't know how to ascertain whether I have the new L5 resources & databases I should have.
Can you give us a screenshot of what you see in the dropdown under Tools? (Use the paperclip icon to attach it.)
Also, if you go to Logos... > About... you should be able to see a list of the databases that are licensed to you (I haven't upgraded myself yet, so I haven't seen it, but I believe I've read there should be one). What does it say?
EDIT: I see Graham beat me to it. I was making dinner at the same time as writing.[:)]

I had already eaten[:)]
I'm trying the Update Resources command. It says resources were found & will update automatically. So far no activity. I've attached a screen shot. In checking the list under About Logos 5, TimeLine is not listed, nor are many other things.

There are typically two major downloads on the Mac when doing the upgrade with the second including the Timeline functionality.
(I believe this is what I have observed from Mac-related discussions on this forum)
It seems as though your second download is not taking place which is what is causing the problem.
I'll need to leave it to a Mac expert to suggest why this could be happening.
Alternatively, you could contact Logos Customer Services and ask them to help

Well, that explains why you don't have the Timeline feature. Unfortunately, it does not explain why the automatic download does not take place. Unless someone more knowledgeable turns up in the meantime, I suggest you call Logos tech support when they open in 2.5 hours.
Was this ever resolved? I'm having the exact same problem (except upgrade was from Logos 4 Gold to Logos 5 Gold).
What is the solution?
Hi Ed
I'm having the exact same problem (except upgrade was from Logos 4 Gold to Logos 5 Gold).
Are you saying that you don't have access to the Timeline feature? This is included in L5 Gold so there must be some issue somewhere.
Have you allowed the second download (http://community.logos.com/forums/p/60646/431760.aspx#431760) to take place?
Never mind ... the solution was in James 1:4 ... "let patience have its perfect work..." [:)]
For those who stumble on this thread:
1. Type "update resources" in the bar (as described above)
2. Wait for indexing to finish ... once it does, Logos will download the updates. (As I said, James 1:4)
3. After updates complete, restart Logos, then new resources will be indexed. (My updates were 1.9G, so it took about 30-60 minutes to download.)

Yes, that is correct ... I did not have access to Timeline or Bible Facts at first. (I upgraded from Logos 4 Gold to Logos 5 Gold.) After installation, I did the "update resources" thing, but updates were not applied until after the initial re-indexing finished. Now, all is well ... so far so good, new features are beautiful! Glad you got it sorted - and that you are enjoying the new features!
