OK ... My original post looks to be corrupted ... i did notice that there was no tool bar for smilies and linking etc. whilst writing it. Restarting Safari did not seem to fix it. Restarting my entire mac has fixed it.
OK. The original post is about L5 quitting unexpectedly. It did not even have the focus. I was actually using Safari. At the same time, the indexer crashed (again).
Are any of these three thing related? Is there any common code between what safari uses for text input and what L5 does? Could the indexer have killed L5? Did L5 kill the indexer? what will happen in the next episode? Was it all a dream? ... [:D]

Martin - Your zip file was corrupted… I was able to change the name and open up your logs… I am not a techie, but sometimes I fumble my way through logs. I noticed several errors related to personal books. Below is an example. Is Logos crashing for you now, or were you just reporting the single event crash?
Couldn't extract cover image from PBB:91afa258290340bd820001ecf6412155 (2012-11-29T11:41:53Z): Cover image not specified
You are getting a whole bunch of errors unfortunately...
This resource (LLS:29.13.5001) if that is a resource code, was the last being indexed and (likely) caused the crash. I don't know what the resource is but if it is corrupted I would delete it and redownload it.
11/29/2012 12:05:18 | INFO | 20 | LibraryIndex | (Timed) Indexing LLS:29.13.5001
Related to this in the LogosError.log I saw many entries indicating issues with your machine's Internet connection — whether this is general WRT your Internet connection or specific to Logos can't say. What is clear though is there are many errors reported. This one says there was a problem doing a DNS name lookup which is not good.
Libronix.Utility.Net.WebServiceException: Error handling response. Request: GET https://services.logos.com/accounts/v1/groups?userId=143689&relationship=Admin%2CModerator%2CMember%2CFollower%2CObserver&start=0&count=2147483647 ---> System.Net.WebException: Error: NameResolutionFailure
If your Internet connection (generally/specific to Logos) is not stable then files maybe are being corrupted when you download them then when they are indexed Logos crashes.
Then there is this error in LogosCrash.txt file
Error ID: 2500Error detail: ObjectDisposedException: The object was used after being disposed.
which means (likely) that a programming object was removed from memory and then attempted to be used by the application.
I think you need to contact Logos support.
Martin - Your zip file was corrupted
Hi Alabama, the '.gz' extension is a GZipped file, common in the Linux & Mac world. Martin's Mac is likely setup to zip files to the GZip file format.
I have a question for you though if you can help - is there any (web) resource from Logos or the community which lists all books by their code — can I get access to that?
What I mean is this line in the Indexer.log file:
was the last before the indexer went south. I am making guess that LLS:29.13.5001 is the resource code, but what book is it?
Do you have access to that sort of information, it would be helpful because then I can tell people that the file for book X is corrupted. Unfortunately the 'LLS' code is different to the filename on disk, so for the AYBD, I see this
So I am hoping there is some resource that lists: Book title, LLS Code, File name.
Is there such a thing?
Hey Patrick - I got your email... But the path it took was convoluted [:)] I can't seem to get to my wall to check personal messages... Perhaps it is because I'm on my iPad... I'll have to check that out later. The email provided a link to this thread, but it didn't work. I had to cut and paste to get it to work.
As for the .gz zip file... I have seen those before but didn't know what they were. My iMac was unable to read it. I changed it to a .zip extension and it opened right away.
I am unaware of a document or page list to figure out what resources are which. When I come across this, I copy and paste into the command bar and pray that it opens a resource I own. [:)]
OFF TOPIC: Patrick - What are the advantages of GZip? Should I download it?
Thanks Patrick
LLS:29.13.5001 is Mills, M. S. Ruth: A Study Guide to the Book of Ruth. Dallas: 3E Ministries, 1998.; and the corresponding file is sa_3eruth.lbxlls
I will delete that one and restart L5 again.
I have, since the days of L1Mac said that i am having download errors from Logos, but have never had the same issues when downloading onto Windows .. using a VM (Parallels) on the same physical hardware. My connection is stable (AFAIK) to all other sites, with a single exception which turned out to have their data on the Amazon S3 service.
The error in your post was accepted as a live hyperlink. Following it gave details of some of my faithlife home page. I could not immediately see any personal data there ... but the URL of my church is in there ...
Hi - it mainly gives you ability to uncompress more file formats, particularly on Mac/*nix you will find compression with *.tar, *.bz2, *.gz and so on.
You shouldn't have to (as I believe) download anything, OS X supports all those file formats out of the box. You can check if you have gzip on your Mac by running this command
Patricks-iMac:~ patrick$ which gzip/usr/bin/gzip
You shouldn't have to (as I believe) download anything, OS X supports all those file formats out of the box.
This is what I get when I try to open the .gz file folder:
Like I said before, I renamed the file to have a .zip extension and was able to open it.
Strange...
If you are interested there are free tools you can use to get a quantitative and qualitative analysis of your Internet connection which, given the number of errors showing in your logs, may be valuable to do. Here are links to a few:
Raw speed: http://www.speedtest.net/index.php
Quality of connection: http://www.pingtest.net/index.php
DNS lookup performance: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools
For the DNS tools web page there are a bunch of tests, the 'DNS Timing' one is a good place to start.
For example I get this when I check against Logos.com. Let us know how you go.
Strange... when I download it in Safari the file name is this
7288.LogosLogs%20Martin%20Folley%2020121129-131000.gz
and I can uncompress it.
Oh well - if you want a free uncompress tool that supports just about every compress file format ever here is one

LLS:29.13.5001 is Mills, M. S. Ruth: A Study Guide to the Book of Ruth. Dallas: 3E Ministries, 1998.; and the corresponding file is sa_3eruth.lbxlls I will delete that one and restart L5 again.
Just so we can close the loop on this case can you let us know if downloading the book solves the problem — interested to know.
Thanks Again Patrick ... spotting that resource did it ... no hitches this time.
I was awake this morning at about 4, so I thought that I would check on progress. I was intrigued that the indexer seem to be stuck on 90% and the indexer log had simply stopped 3 hours earlier. Nothing I could do, so I left it ... and the logs started up again at 6:30 ... it appears to have taken 5 1/2 hours to 'write postings', during which time there is no logging info produced.
I have attached the logs, which include another modification to the error log at about 5 this morning etc, but I consider this one closed ... I HAVE AN INDEX [<:o)] [:D]
Thanks Again
Martin.
