I had to manually download Logos 5 to my Mac Book Pro dragging the dmg file to the applications folder did install the new program but it did not replace Logos 4. How do I remove Logos 4? I really do not see the need for both versions.
You can safely delete the Logos 4 icon. This unfortunately doesn't happen automatically in Mac.
Hi Robert. I had to do a manual install too because for some reason Logos 4 didn't properly update to Logos 5 as it should have done. I thus had to manually delete Logos 4, and then install Logos 5 brand new using the download link provided by Logos.
If you're sure Logos 5 is up and running properly, if you go to Finder > Applications and then drag and drop the Logos 4 icon into the trash can, that should delete Logos 4 from your Mac. Hope that helps!
Paul,
Thanks! It isn't often you find a quick and easy solution. But this one was. I am now up an running on Logos 5
Thanks and again I say say thanks
Thanks, I sure do appreciate the quickness of your response. I am now up an running.
Glad to be of help Robert! Blessings to you.
Pleased all is now working for you. Just wanted to add an explanatory remark for anyone else who might stumble on this thread.
The initial installation procedure is different for the two main operating systems. In Windows, you download and installer which then downloads L5. This installer that can remove L4. The Mac OS has a simpler installation procedure which produces this anomaly. There you download the actual application and drag it from the disk image to the Applications folder. Since the version number is part of the application name, Finder does not see the L4 and needing to be removed. Therefore, we must drag L4 to the trash—and remove it from the dock if it has been placed there.
Jack, I'm a bit confused about this. I have the Windows version, having upgraded a couple of days ago. On the Logos email concerning my order for Logos 5, under "Install and Download Instructions for Logos 5," was the following:
Logos 5 is an automatic update. Close LogosDesktop and reopen to start downloading your new products. No further unlockingor downloading necessary.
Beneath the order were "Files to Download," one for Windows and one for Mac. I ignored those, following the instructions at the top. I figured the "Files to Download" were for doing the upgrade manually.
At any rate, Logos 5 installed fairly rapidly, though I think it remains in a Logos 4 folder, if I recall correctly. I figured that was part of the simplicity of the upgrade, a much better scenario than when we upgraded from L3 to L4.
So . . . is there anything I need to do to get rid of unnecessary folders or whatever, or leave well enough alone?
I have the Windows version
Then you should have no need to change anything. The only problem occurs during manual installation on the Mac OS. The the simplified installation procedure does not remove the old app because their names are different.
I think it remains in a Logos 4 folder
Not sure about Windows, but in the Mac OS the old L4 folders remain. In hindsight, Logos probably should not have included the version number in the directory path.
AFAIK the only thing that needs to be removed manually is the L4 application in the Mac OS.
Thanks, Jack.
