4aB1: We now have merging indexes.

I copied an install of SR7 over from my netbook and updated it to 4.0aB1. I hadn't yet reindexed the netbook. So, before going to bed I decided to merge the indexes.
I couldn't believe the short guesstimate that was given, so I watched the index log. The process now does merge the supplemental and main indexes.
My main index and supplemental index for a library of 3822 indexable resources was rebuilt in 59 minutes (the merging took 48 minutes).
I am so impressed.....

Damian,
Please give us the step-by-step if you don't mind. I tried the same thing but it didn't work for me...probably missed something along the way.

Mitch, it was 2.30 in the morning here when I wrote my post. I went to bed straight afterwards.
DO you still want a step-by -step. I've just done another flawless (?) install and started writing down the steps but accidently closed the browser. If you'd like it, I'll put it together.

Hi Mitch,
You did not say what part didn't work for you. If it was the merging, here is what I did to merge my index files after seeing Damian's post.
I typed merge into the command bar to see if it would populate and the program asked me if I wanted to search for merge. Which I did. At
the top of the search windows was a blue bit of text which asked me if
I wanted to merge my indices. I clicked on it and the merge started
right away.Hope this helps.

This did not end well for me.
I started the merge, which began with a 28 minute estimate and quickly went down to 1 minute where it stayed for hours. I forgot it was indexing and shut down the machine. The next day, I started logos 4 and all my searches said - results may be inaccurate due to indexing in progress. However, the indexing task was not running (in the task manager process pane and there was no icon in the taskbar).
I waited all day, but this never changed , that is the notice on searches. I tried a repair on the installation, an "update now" and a rescan command and none of these caused the index process to restart.
In the end, I shut down logos, backed up the index directory, deleted it, restarted logos and indexing then started from scratch. It was progressing nicely when I went to bed.
Logos - I have the old index directory if you need to see it.

Clinton

No need to post the index log, let me explain. I should have written this in my first post. The actual merging was what was taking place during that 1 minute (for me that minute lasted 48 minutes). Apparently, while it is merging, the counter does not change and the merge is not included in the original time estimate. I too thought that it was broken, but I followed the logs.
LOGOS: please fix this or we will see many more problems of this kind.

Thanks, I'll report this.

I've added two small resources since updating to the Beta.
Both times I've attempted to merge the indexes, the indexer has crashed.

Russ, do you have a log of the crash? If so, please post the exception and stack trace.

Peter,
Not sure if I do or not.
Where are the logs located?
I'm happy to work with you in whatever way is helpful.

See instructions at http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging
The last few lines of your Logos4Indexer.log file should help me figure out what's causing your crash.
Thanks!

I did not have logging enabled so no log files.
It is happened both times I have bought a new resource and attempted to merge index.
I would enable logging and try to merge the indexes again but the option to "Merge Indexes" under the New Resources tab of search results is no longer there.
I have a yellow warning at the top of the results that says "Some search results may be missing or incorrect while your library is being indexed."
Is there a way to manual force the merge index process besides buying and downloading a new resource?

It's possible, but I don't really recommend tampering with your installation directly.

Ok, I bought and downloaded another resource.
After that download Logos 4 downloaded the 4aB2 update.
The Merge Index option came back so I enabled logging and started the Merge.
It crashed again.
Here is the Error Signature from the Microsoft error reporting dialog:

Thanks, Russ. I may be able to fix your problem for the next Beta (post-Thanksgiving).
