I have a question, will the sales last for the full 12 days? If I see a product on sale do I have to purchase it that day or will it be available for the full 12 days. The IVP Reference Collection looks enticing.
I don't know, but yesterday was day 1. You might want to grab it.
Even if it's only for the first HOUR of the first DAY, you should get it! I waited several YEARS and that was a big mistake. Very useful and good scholarship. Tends toward the conservative side but still pretty balanced.
Earlier this year, I found the same collection on the internet for about the same price as this ... the chances of finding these type of deals is harder and harder.
I'm almost positive these deals will remain available until the completion of the Christmas sale. I second DMB's recommendation. The IVP Collection at this price is a steal. Anybody that has the money and wants some nice reference sources should go ahead with this one.
Personally, I'm hoping for a deep discount on the WBC. Does anybody recall the lowest they've seen it in the past? It is $300 or $400?
It used to be that the prices would last for a day, but then on the 13th day all the prices would drop again and remain in effect throughout the Christmas season.
In the past, all the sale items have been available through the duration of the sale, and for a week or so afterward. That's not to say it will happen this way again, but that's what I recall from past sales, both Christmas sales and others, like March madness, etc.
Does it appear as through "Christmas Credit" is not going to be made available this year? I can't remember whether it had been announced by this time last year?
The IVP Collection is a must for all Logos users.
Many have found it to be beneficial to wait until all 12 Days have been revealed to make their selections. There may be something that becomes available later that is a higher priority for you. That way you have not already commited your funds before you know what options will be available.
It's too early to say IMHO. Last year IIRC it was announced around about the second week of December (but applied retrospectively) so I would expect the same timing this year.
Even if they don't do the same promotion, I'm sure they will come up with something similar to empty our wallets (and fill our inboxes [:D])
EDIT - just found the blog post from last year http://blog.logos.com/2011/12/the-logos-christmas-sale-begins-today/ and noted that the Christmas credit announcement was made on Dec 6 . Obviously I did not remember correctly! [:$]
will the sales last for the full 12 days?
Since Logos hasn't chimed in… It appears so. In my screen shot, notice they have links to the older offers. By the way… HERE is the link to the sale.
I got it in December 2009 for $426, according to my order history.
I got my copy of WBC from a 3rd party on Amazon for just under $300, but that was 4 years ago. Couldn't pass on that price.

Thanks DMB, I did grab it this morning. "Tends toward conservative." - all the more reason for me to buy it. I am more conservative in my understanding of the scripture. I see posts about third party products - do these work well with Logos? I have seen a couple but tend to shy away from them.
I saw one for $319 but I think I would prefer Logos products. What do you think?
Michael ... 3rd party purchasing is the same as from Logos. Amazingly, just call up Logos with the serial number and they authorize it. The only issues might be 'less convenient' and make sure it indeed is a clean copy (not previously licensed).
This is one of the many good things about buying from Logos!
You have to ask youself if you will stop and go take a volume (or two or three) off the bookshelf and flip around to find what you want when you are studying a passage or theme. Compare that to making a few clicks and hotlinking to info.
David I was referring to software products compatible with Logos.
Over the years, Logos has changed is business practice about selling resources. At one time, some publishers and third party groups created and/or sold "Libronix" resources. Logos has since brought the process in house… maintaining a higher quality (in some cases) and offering the resources as digital downloads. If you find a Libronix CD, it will be the same "product" that Logos offers. Updates are provided by Logos. It is my understanding that there are old physical copies which the publishers are still allowed to sell, but they are not creating new copies. All things being equal, I would choose to buy from Logos… but if there are old discs lying around that the publishers (most often via 3rd parties) are allowed to sell… Why not take the discount?
I have made several small purchases by third party sellers… and one large one (WBC). The rest of my purchases have come directly from Logos. There are a few (but only a few) items left which would interest me 3rd party, but they are harder to find.
I've spent several years trying to think 'WHAT WOULD IT TAKE?" just to find a pristine, beautiful, plastic-smelling, and little red-box embossed copy of New Jerome's Commentary (or the original, that'd be ok too). Probably one is hidden somewhere in a backroom box of a bookstore long forgotten (except by ME!).
I'd also want the Japanese/English interlinear too but that's an even worse long-shot.
Well L has created a monopoly which may help quality, but it does not help price. Why would I not buy the Libronix Disc? Works just fine and if the resources are updated the .logos4 files are downloaded automatically.
Besides the more $ I save buying Libronix files the more I can spend on new Logos stuff right?
Why would I not buy the Libronix Disc?
I have several reasons why it is better to buy from Logos directly than from a third party seller. One reason is the thirty day satisfaction guarantee. Another reason is my account order history only lists product I have purchased directly from Logos. If I ever want to refresh my memory about the purchase date or price I paid, it is easy to look up. Yet another reason is the good service and goodwill I get every time I deal with Logos.
I only wish all Libronix titles were available from Logos.com.
Offtopic and a bit early, but I need to share. I heard this today on the (computer) radio so I looked for it on the internet.

Also noticed Logos Christmas sale includes a number of book bundles => http://www.logos.com/christmas
Keep Smiling [:)]
Well L has created a monopoly
It is only a monopoly if you must have Logos [8-|]. There are at least two major competitors. I have a substantial investment in one of them, but I prefer Logos.

Thanks for the tip. There are so many that I want. I guess I will have to wait and see what else comes on sale during the 12 days.

I agree Jack. I also have a large investment in two companies as well. I usually compare prices and make my decision on price and how I intend to use the product. Logos has by far more products and features that other companies do not have.
ok let me rephrase.. L has a monopoly on the production of L products.. yes I am aware of A.
So does A [8-|] Can't say about B, since I have never used their product. (Why are we using initials? [^o)])

Isn't that true of almost any company? Microsoft, Apple, Ford, GM, etc
The only point I was making was that I have purchased a few libronix titles, WBC, ACCS, Preachers Commentary and another I cant think of right now that have been 1/4 to 1/2 of what Logos sells them for. Its the same product. Why would I not purchase them?
I see these are using the same system as the base bundles ... credit is given for your existing library.
One strange thing, at least for me ... is that on at least two of these bundles, it is literally cheaper for me to buy the medium bundle than the small. This is a straight $ price, not just cheaper per resource etc. Since the small is a subset of the medium, i would have expected, at the very least, that the medium had the same price as the small, assuming that i already owned all the resources that move the small into a medium. If there were one or two additional resources, then I would expect to medium to be more expensive.
I presume that this is one of those bigger discounts if you buy more resources being applied across all of the resources in the bundle, even if you already own them.
Still , in terms of content ... for me there is nothing there to entice me to overcome the $ shock of the L5 upgrade that I am still living with ... temporarily [;)]
You should purchase them if they are cheaper. Especially ACCS, which isn't even on the Logos site currently.
However there are a few different configurations of WBC out there on CD/DVD. You don't automatically get new volumes from Logos if you purchase an older collection that doesn't include them.
If you speak nicely to them, you might be able to charge you more. [:D]
Its the same product. Why would I not purchase them?
Since they are the same resource, go for it. However, we cannot expect it to last forever as Logos appears to be incrementally pulling all sales back into the company. Sometime ago, Bob Pritchett posted an explanation of his logic for this. One interesting/disturbing aspect of this was that the greatest amount of shelf-loss* occured in Christian bookstores
*Shelf-Loss = merchandise which mysteriously disappears from store shelves

The usual term for that is "shrink."
Where I come from, we've usually called it "theft" [:#]

Of course it's theft, but the industry term is "shrink."

Yes, Working in retail the term I would use is shrinkage. Jack, I had visions of customers walking out of the store looking all innocent with a shelf under their arm. Appreciated your terminology though Jack, maybe it was Bob's originally.
Shrinkage is interesting term in itself. If you try to apply it to an individual item that has mysteriously disappeared from the store shelf it does not quite make sense. When speaking of specifc items, shelf loss does make more sense. Shrinkage becomes meaningful when apply to a collective - the total quantity of inventory has 'shrunk' as a result of shrinkage - which is not limited to theft but also includes loss stock due to damages, loss of value due to incorrectly priced items, or simply not checking deliveries when a shipment arrives and accepting it as fully delivered when it fact it was actually short delivered - this results in a write down at stock take time at which point the actual shrinkage occurs).
Electronic download as the only means of distribution does eliminate shrinkage risks - but there is one area open for a potential loss to occur, which i mentioned above - even without having a physical inventory.
Edit: I too notice some of the medium packages came up cheaper for me than the small packages. No complaints about that though, particularly when I was being offered more resources I didn't own in the medium package compared to the small package for a lesser price. (This is potentially an example of what I was talking about above, unless it was intended to work that way as a Christmas bonus for the enterprising customers who check all the options before making a choice.
Thanks, George and Andrew, for the education. Thought Bob had said shelf-loss, but memory could be faulty—it was a few years ago. The interesting/discouraging part was that it happened in Christian book stores.

In April I got WBC along with a few dozen other titles in the Nelson Bible Reference Bundle for $599.99... today the same bundle is $899.95 and is still a great price for all the resources you get with it IMHO.

That bundle seems to go on sale third party 2-3-4 times a year. Generally for $499 or $399, but I've seen it for $389. It's got another name then, but the content seems to be the same.
There's a recent thread showing WBC alone for $350, with a promise of 20% off shortly. You might need to be Australian though, as the shipping prices were outrageous last time I checked.
How does one privately message a forum user?
Thought I had the answer, but went to check prior to posting, and the ability is no longer there. Previously, you could click on their avatar and there was a field to post comments, but it seems to have been swallowed by FaithLife.
Bummer. I have something I want to sell to a specific person.
