Search Analysis Mode - Hate to sound like I am complaining but..

Anaylsis mode is driving me mad, to point I am seriously looking at using another program to do my analytical searching.

the search hint tells me to put exact phrase in quotes

which works great for basic and bible(grid|verses|alligned)

but as soon as you hit analasis the results the phrase gets mangled..

Am I the only one that has an issue with this, and believes it to be faulty/a bug?

I dont mind if you think I am wrong, or if you want it like this, but can we maybe have an option to keep the phrase as a phrase in anaylsis mode..

Sorry If I sound like a squeaky wheel.. but for serious analysis this renders L5 almost useless for me, I should not need to export it to aspreadsheet just to rejoin the phrase - its doing my head in..

Dominic I'm not going to attempt to answer your analytical technical points (leave that to more equipped users) but I am curious what you are wanting out of the Analysis view of Bible searching given that, because it is analysis, it, by default, disassembles the phrase into component parts, including the source language.

This the search may have started as a phrase, but when it goes to Analysis it is considering each part of the phrase, I believe that it is working as designed.

Of course I am sure you realise this — which is why I am interested what you were wanting the analysis view to show at a phrase (versus a word) level.

It is technically correct** to split the phrase into individual words under Result but note that the Previous Context and Next Context respect the phrase boundaries, and are the same in each line. Logos is considering reducing the output number of lines in certain cases, and I think this should be one of those.

That is not the case, take the search: ("God's Spirit","His Spirit","The Spirit","Holy Spirit") BEFORE 2 WORDS (us,you,them)

In the verse view you get:

The phrase is highlighted in the same color which means it is being treated as a single entity, and not multiple words (which is what I expect)

breaking the search down to meaningful sense, it needs changed word level would result in: (God's,His,The,Holy) BEFORE 1 WORD Spirit BEFORE 2 WORDS (us,you,them)

Each word is now highlighted a different color (again as they are individual words this is expected behaviour as there is no phrase)

I am probably not explaining myself clearly, but strongly believe anything that is in double quotes should be kept together as a single entity (as it is in all other views) and not broken (into 2,3,4.. however many) parts

Peace, Dom! I only meant that the phrase is a shorthand expression for the way the search is executed and we were only discussing the Analysis View for presentation of results. The phrase is respected except for being split one word per line. So I agree that the phrase should be treated as the Result; after all the Previous and Next Context are multiple words.

I am curious as to what "anaylsis" you want to see about the phrase? Analysis is about looking at the morphology of the components. What do you want to see about the phrase?

My Analysis can be as varied as the search.

Those like me who are still learning Greek may need to analyse the English text, yes my Greek will hopefully become passable, but until then I am reliant on the English translation of others, and analysis thereof

{Lord,God,He) BEFORE 1 WORDS (loves,gives,cares,chose,called)
(Lord,God,He) BEFORE 1 WORDS (Disciplines,Punishes,Rebukes,Chastises,tests,judges,guides,reproves)
We BEFORE 2 words (wait, hope, look,seek) BEFORE for BEFORE you
The BEFORE 2-3 WORDS "of Yahweh"

I use the analysis mode to sift/filter/refine the results as part of my sermon prep.

I have already a suggestion for enhancing the output from analysis mode, so wont repeat that
