Help: Stuck without my digital Bible in church! And some puzzling questions.
I had my iPod with me in church the other day (no wi-fi access), with the Logos app on it. I hadn't run the Logos app in a while but I know that the last time I used it, I had my preferred version of the Bible downloaded onto it, as well as a couple of other resources (Revised Common Lectionary, as well as a book that I was in the middle of reading, and maybe one or two reference works).
I whipped out my iPod during the service to look up a passage that was being referred to that wasn't printed in our bulletin. Lo and behold, my TNIV was not there. Only 2 books were listed in my library, the one that I'd been reading and the LEB. I tried clicking on the LEB to open it but got the message "Error loading book. Could not load the specified book."
How did all the books I'd downloaded disappear from my library?
Why can't I even see the list of books I own even if they aren't downloaded onto the device?
And why couldn't I open the LEB even though it was listed in my library and was apparently downloaded on the device (there's a "Remove" button in its Info panel)?
Back at home, where I had access to wi-fi again, I was able to view my entire Library once again, and saw that the books I'd downloaded before were no longer showing as downloaded. How could this have happened?
I'm still not able to open the Lexham English Bible even at home with wi-fi access.
I'm using version 3.0.2.1396.
EDIT: I know I've had my Bible downloaded on the iPod in the past because I have used it in church before, and I wouldn't ever have intentionally removed it.

Rosie this seems to happen on the iPad from time to time after an update. I'm not sure what the issue is. I just know that I occasionally have to redownload resources.

Peace, Rosie! *smile*
Your version is out of date! *smile* http://community.logos.com/forums/t/62689.aspx
Secondly, there are a couple of threads where Logos had problems with LEB, which should be fixed by now! It downloads on my iPad in all three Apps - Logos, Vyrso, FaithLife!

Thanks, Milford. Is there any way to make it update automatically? Or at least let me know when there's a new version available? There ought to be if there isn't. I don't see any such thing in Settings.

My main iPad page tells me there're updates! That's from the I-Tunes store... *smile* I don't have any other devices; so can't say... Blessings!
Question for you, Rosie! Right now I have different resources open in my Logos App My Vyrso App My FaithLife App
I am wondering ........... Can I download Verbum also? There are so many resources I want to read -- I have so many irons in the fire -- that I'd love to have one more App just waiting for me to call on it for instant usage??? *smile*

No idea. I've never tried the other apps you mention besides the Logos one. I'm not much of a mobile user.

Our iOS team would have to answer specifically, but I believe Apple's devices manager storage themselves. Only "user data" is protected, and "downloaded" data files are sometimes deleted to make space for newer or more frequently used apps.

Bummer! That's too bad. I still have 1.6GB available for storage, and surely the Bible and the few other books I'd downloaded don't take up that much space.

Appears this is happening on the Android platform as well:

What version of iOS are you running? How old is your device? If you are on a "newer" device, you should see a red badge icon on the iOS App Store app anytime there are update for any app.

Out of curiosity… Is there any possibility you have filtered the library in any way? For example, is it possible that the book you were reading started with the letter "L"?

I intentionally didn't upgrade to the new version of iOS that killed Google Maps, but apparently they've brought it back now, so it's probably safe to upgrade.
My device is the fourth generation iPod Touch. Yeah, I guess I do get that badge on the iOS App Store that tells me there are apps to update. But frankly, I have so many apps and most of them have "updates" available at any given time so there's always that badge there, with a rather high number on it, and I have taken to ignoring it. I don't need to spend the time updating every single game or silly app I downloaded just to try it out. I wish the Logos App just knew how to update itself like the Windows version does. I guess I'm not an Apple-minded person at all and never will be.

It sounds like you need to delete some apps… either they are worth updating, or they are worth deleting. [;)]

Most of the updates are dumb little changes. There are some apps I have that put out updates every week. But I don't need the updates as they're working fine for me. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'll wait until several updates before I take the time to download and install a new version.
I do probably need to delete some apps though. I downloaded several just to try out and haven't used them again since.

Hi Rosie
There was one question you asked which I don't think has been addressed
Rosie Perera said:Why can't I even see the list of books I own even if they aren't downloaded onto the device?
The library function in the iPad app displays those resources which you own and are visible to it at the time - so if you have an Internet connection to Logos servers it will display all the mobile-enabled resources to which you have access (allowing for any filtering as per Alabama's post above) but if you are working offline it will only show you resources which you have downloaded.

Thanks, Graham, for clearing that up.
I guess the disappearing downloaded books has happened to others, and might be related to upgrading to a new version of the Logos App or of the OS. I wish it didn't happen, but this will now alert me that I need to check periodically so I'm not left stranded without a Bible again in the future. And if it's a bug in the Logos app, I hope they fix it.

Rosie - I have NEVER heard of this before (that I can remember), and I spend a great amount of time in the iOS forum. The link you provided above was to Android… the way they handle data is different. Are you sure the library wasn't filtered? What was the other book?

These devices have at best 64 Gig. When I was looking into a tablet last week the Verizon person told me that if a new app did not fit in the system would delete some old not used app to make space. He did not know if it asked for permission. [Hope this comment by a sales person helps someone track this down] I asked what happened when you wanted to use that older app and he said ‘just recall it from the Cloud’ [No Cloud No app - Think I will continue to use my Laptop at church and glad I did not buy a tablet [at this time - maybe latter] ]
Question: Was some other app loaded since the last time you saw it working OK? Have other apps vanished? [was there a long start up time? It might have been downloaded instead of just started?]

Was this comment in relation to an iPad tablet or an Android one?

Yes, this happened to me on iOS. The only reason I provided a link to Android was to comment that someone else was saying it happened to them on Android to. I did not experience it on Android. I didn't mean to confuse the issue. I know this is the iOS forum.
And yes, I know the library wasn't filtered. The other book which remained in my library was The Peacemaker, which is a book I'd been reading. Maybe it was spared the deletion because it was the most recently opened book.

They had both in the store - not sure he knew what he was talking about but was just tiring to give a train of thought to the knowledge people that WILL figure this out.
[[that is: I could be way off track - but how is storage overflow handled? Do they politely ask or just clear up space as they see fit?]]

All the indications I have seen is that you are advised that storage is getting low.
I would be amazed if there were auto-deletion of documents or data going on here.

I was never given any warning that storage was getting low, and I have 1.6 GB available, so I doubt that was the problem in my case.

No, I think you were hitting one of the problems other have experienced with earlier versions of the app where there was a problem in accessing the resource, not that it had automatically been removed.
Hopefully the updated version will serve you better

Peace, Graham! Thot I'd report back to you after a month of having all four Logos apps on my iPad2 .... it works well for me also .... and I appreciate the versatility of having more resources available at my fingertips ... With 64G I have the freedom of having some of my resources available in more than one app so by judiciously working what I have gives me a lot of quick and ready to go options!
Thanks for checking it out! *smile*

I personally find that Verbum has all of the features from the other apps in one place. I ended up deleted the other apps and just use Verbum.
