highlighting delay/crashes
Hi - I use logos 5 for MAC and an IPAD. I have noticed recently a significant delay (with increasing frequency) of highlighting in my ESV on the IPAD - sometimes up to 30/60 seconds, sometimes resulting in logos crash on the IPAD. I like to read a book and jump to ESV references and highlight them so this is getting very inconvenient.
Has anyone else experienced this, or if logos is checking these threads - any suggestions?
Thanks
Brian

Brian - As I suggested in your original post, it sounds like you are suffering from having large note files. EVERY highlight is actually a note in a note file. By default, these notes are stored in Pallete specific note files. If your experience with Logos goes back more than 6 months or so, your highlights would have automatically changed from the old system into the new one. Are you familiar with how this system works? Are you familiar with how to change the behavior on the iPad app? If so, try to make a highlight using a new Pallete in an unhighlighted resource. I think you will find highlighting much quicker. Unfortunately, this wont help you in the ESV, but it will help to confirm that the issue is related to your note file. I would be interested to see how large your file is. Do you primarily just use one Pallete? If so, open up the note file (named after your Pallete) and ACT like you are going to print it. This should tell you how many pages the document would take to print. [Dont actually print the document!]

Thanks - your instinct is correct. I apparently have one large mega note file for all my highlighting in ESV. That is unfortunate as I use highlighting in ESV the same way I highlight my hardcopy bible (aggressively) and this is now creating problems on my iPad highlighting.
I'm not sure why logos turns our highlights into a note file - but if that is how this is configured, I may have no choice to be not use highlighting on the iPad. That would be a shame as I actually read the books in my 3,000 plus (now library) principally on the ipad and like to use the book links to scripture to highlight verses that raise doctrinal issues of interest.
Blessings,
Brian

I think in 4.3, Logos moved to a new sync infrastructure for highlights. Part of this was to allow highlights on mobile. It is more correct to say that highlights ARE notes, with a visual filter applied.
i highlight quite a bit as well, though perhaps not as much (or as long) as you have. During the beta testing of the early versions of the highlight enabled app, I discovered that large highlight files were troublesome. I spent 12+ hours breaking down the primary note file into resource specific note files. This is a system I have continued... I create a new note file for EVERY book I highlight in. I have changed e mobile app behavior to be "sticky" so that I select the note file the first time I highlight, and my choice "sticks" until I change it again. My highlights appear almost immediately in every resource... The one exception was my ESV. I had a years worth of devotional highlights... It was taking about 20-30 seconds for highlights to appear. I recently deleted that note file... Highlights are now instantaneous. I plan to use a new translation for devotional readings in 2013, and will leave the ESV open for "study."
Moving forward, you might want to adopt a similar system to mine. It won't help for your ESV, but it should help with new resources.

I'm having this same problem too. Can LOGOS make a patch or update to help fix this? Or do I really need to create a new note file for every book I read and highlight in?

John – Welcome to the forums! Sorry you are having troubles. [:s] Can you create a new thread and explain your issue very clearly? What is happening? Can you give us some idea of how large your note files are?
