WBC 54 volume edition (cd-rom)

Dear Logos helpers,

I'll be attempting to load the cd-rom version of the WBC 54 volume on to my new Mac in the next couple of days. It's my understanding that I'll need to convert the files on a PC first. Does anybody have any experience with this? Thanks for your help!

CL ... don't you already have L5 (if I remember right)? Is the CD-ROM one you purchased over the holidays? If so, it's easiest to just call in the serial number to Logos and they'll download it to your L5.

The only conversion of files from a PC I'm aware of is the older Libronix notes you might have had; not a CD-ROM.

EDIT: Ok ... I notice you're from Mississippi but you're in India. A call might be expensive.

Have you have previously activated the WBC cd-rom on an old computer (I am reading between the lines here)? If you have, then when you log into your Logos account on your new Mac, Logos' servers will automatically download the WBC volumes you own.

Assuming the disc you have is an Libronix 3 version, you will need to install Libronix 3 on a PC using the same Logos Account you use with Logos 5 and unlock it using the serial number that came with the product (maybe on CD Jewel case). In Libronix 3 you will then need to sync licenses with the server. All should then be good to go to your MAC and run a sync in L5. It should pick up your newly acquired licenses from the server and start the download.

Screenshot below shows menu in L3 where you go to sync licenses.

If calling Logos Customer Service is an option for you, you could call them, and provide them with the serial number that came with the WBC 54 volume product and they can unlock if for you. This way you won't have to do an install on a PC at all.

EDIT: Ok notice someone posted you are in India so install on PC will be most likely option for you.

No, the point is the licence. This other user not only will need to delete/uninstall the series, but (at least in case this user synchronized his/her licence with the Logos server) Logos will need to de-activate the licence from this user's account and activate it on yours. They will take USD 20 processing fee, since this basically is done as a manual edit of the licence database.

Whether this other user ships you the CD-Rom to India or not is meaningless, since when Logos transferred the licence to your account, L4/5 will automatically attempt to download the files.

On the other hand, unless this transfer occured, you may install the CD and use it for a certain time (I think this once was four weeks, but this may be different now or per resource), but you won't be able to activate it in L3 and I assume - but never tried this - you may not be able to scan and open it in L4/5 prior to licence transfer.

You will, however, be required to install Logos 2 and the books from the WBC 54 disc on a 32 bit Windows machine like XP (Not sure if OS's later than XP will work). Then, you will need to install Logos 3, import L2's library, and sync your license in L3. Alternatively, you can install Logos 2 and books and then export a license file. This will have to be sent to customer service via email. Once received, they can unlock your books. After this process, the books will download into Logos 4 or 5 (Mac or PC). If you have problems, customer service will help you. For future reference, if it is a Logos 2 product, it does not have a serial #, nor does it need a license transfer.

Not only this, whenever I have had problems installing a Logos 2 product, customer service has always been helpful. They have never asked for "proof" that I had the disc or "proof of purchase." The only "proof" they have required from me is a L2 backup file or a L3 license sync. How long ago was this?

I installed the 54 vol. WBC cd and it works just fine in L5. Mind you I did have to install the disk, copy the resources to L3 and sync license. Never was asked for "proof."

Does anybody know beyond a shadow of a doubt if a CD key is needed? The user I'm purchasing from doesn't have it...is it possible that it never existed for this particular version?

When I wanted to install a L2 resource, Logos simply asked me to email a scanned image of the CD to prove that I had it. Then they activated it in my L4 account and it downloaded. This was much simpler than installing L2 and L3 and syncing the licences.

This has been a point of evolution and solidification for us. I'd like to know when, Jonathan PItts, you were able to get away with merely sending in a scanned image of a disc, as we have for some months now not allowed scanned images of discs and the like as proof.

We require the license backup, a serial number in the case of 3.x products, or proof of purchase of the product (e.g. receipt from retail store).

If you have the seller send that out and send it to us we will be able to begin the transfer process.

I don't want this to spiral out of control, however I'm wondering why there is a transfer fee at all. This was purchased as a Thomas Nelson product and wouldn't seem to warrant a fee from another company...

I'm also unaware if I can provide a serial #. I'm purchasing from someone else who is deleting from his account and mailing me the cd's.

It was April 2010, with a copy of the Oxford Bible Commentary, which I had to buy from Amazon US and then have shipped by a friend in the US to me in the UK. Trying to install it from Logos 2 didn't seem to work for me.

Is this a new policy? WBC 54 does not have a serial # associated with it. I have been told repeatedly by customer service that L2 products cannot be transfered via a license transfer because there is not a serial # to transfer from one account to another. The repeated refrain from customer service has been that the product needs to be installed, and then a license backup needs to be sent or L3 licenses needs to be synced.

I would also wonder if charging a license transfer fee for a L2 product would be consistent with the EULA associated with the product when it was released? At the minimum, charging a license transfer fee for L2 products would be an unannounced reversal of previous policy.

The fee is for the work that goes into the transfer. It isn't a 2 second job. If it is an LLS (Logos Library System 2.0) product than indicate that in the email).

Sorry about the confusion. I looked up the policy as it stand with LLS, and it doesn't look like we can transfer licenses for LLS resources. It seems this is a physical limitation All you'll need to do, as I think has been mentioned, is get the disc, install it onto a computer that will support LLS, obtain theliccense back up file, and email it to us with your Logos.com account email. WE can set up associating the license with your account.

I think that you have to look at this from the perspective of the copyright holder, they have to be confident that when Logos distributes their product that they are remunerated as agreed, for this to happen they have to trust that Logos will only distribute their product (i.e. allow download in Logos 4/5) if Logos knows for sure that it has been properly purchased and is not in use in respect of that license anywhere else.

Your problem is that you cannot install WBC 54 directly in Logos 3. You must first install Logos 2. The program will be contained on the WBC 54 discs. At this point, you will have two options: 1) Backup the license file from Logos 2 after you install the books and send an email to Logos with said file, or 2) Install Logos 2 and the WBC 54 library in Logos 2. Once this is accomplished, import your library to Logos 3 and sync your license in Logos 3.

The final word from Logos above was that Logos 2 products cannot be unlocked via a license transfer. Thus, contacting Logos to have them unlock the books will be fruitless unless you send them the license file for WBC 54.

I've been looking around on the cd's and either L2 isn't on them or due to Windows 7 it's impossible to download it. I'm not sure which is the case.

Is there a way to download L2 from the internet somewhere?

I think your problem is Windows 7. If I recall correctly, Windows XP is the latest OS that can be used to install Logos 2. I wonder if XP mode in Windows 7 would allow you to install the program? This might be a solution, or you could install on a friend's computer provided they have Windows XP or earlier.

Not at all. However, I am grateful that Logos is committed to making sure that older products can be fully integrated into one's library. The problem is that the process of installing these products is not well defined by Logos and entails some complexity. I really do wish Logos could streamline this process.

Just thought I'd let everyone know I was able to sync the volumes on to my Mac by downloading L2 and then updating to L3 as was advised. Thanks everybody for your help!
