Re: syncing faith life reading plan with Logos 5

By Graham Criddle in Logos 5

Hi Terry - welcome to the forums.

I'm struggling to understand exactly what you mean. Can you clarify things a little please?

Terry Voss:
I have followed the directions to sync these 2 but when I am in Logos 5 it is not doing what your tutorial says.

To which direction and which tutorial are you referring?

Faithlife
works seamlessly with your Logos 5 base package. It keeps you connected
with your community and puts your entire library at your fingertips.
Connect with the people you care about through Logos 5 and Faithlife’s
reading plans!

Here’s how:

  1. Log in to Faithlife.com
and choose the Faithlife group that you want to participate in. Make
sure you’re “connected” to the group reading plan. By connecting on
Faithlife.com, you’ll sync your reading plan with Logos 5.

  2. Open up Logos 5 and navigate to
the home screen. Your reading plans will show up on the left side.
Click the reading for the day.

  3. You’ll be sent to the “read”
view, with the biblical text on top and your commentary notes on the
bottom. You’ll notice a “Start Reading” header directing you where to
start your reading for the day. (Your view may vary based on your Logos
    panels.)

  4. As you scroll through the day’s
reading, you may be directed to other Scripture references. Logos 5
links you to the next section—just click the reference.

As you read, you can share thoughts and make Community Notes by:
    1. Highlighting the text and right-clicking
    2. Pressing  “Add community note”
    3. Choosing which Faithlife group you would like to post to, and adding your thoughts and comments

  5. Once you complete all your readings for the day, click the “Mark Read” link. This checks off the reading for the day.

Tips and tricks:

As a base package owner,
you have access to your entire library. As you come across interesting
content, you can now share a preview of that content to Faithlife.

  1. Highlight the content you want to share and right-click
  2. Press the green Faithlife icon
  3. Choose the Faithlife group you want to share the content with
  4. Add any thoughts or comments, and then post

  5. The content will be posted in the specified Faithlife group’s news feed

It’s not too late to make a New Year’s resolution that will feed your soul. Create a Faithlife group, invite members, start a group reading plan, and dig into the Word in 2013!

Terry Voss:
but the faith life notes are not anywhere to be found

What
is the reading plan for? Assuming it is not for the FSB notes then it
wouldn't bring them up. The reading plan is just for the resource not
for anything associated with it.

Terry Voss:
It doesn't seem to work at all like it did in just faith life.

Do you mean in "faithlife" as in the community or in the "faithlife study bible app"?

Terry Voss:
Also
I thought anything that was a note in the faith life bible would open
but instead it is saying I don't own those so of course it won't open
them.

This
is how the FSB works. It provides first-level information which is
accessible to everyone and then has the option of going deeper. Some of
these deeper references are to the "Lexham Bible Dictionary" (which is
included with the FSB app) and others are to a range of encyclopedia,
dictionaries and other resources. Users have the option to purchase
these resources to enable them to have access to this further
information.

Terry Voss:
I have lots of resources I do have the silver version with the cross grade upgrade.

The
references in the FSB notes do point to some resources which are not
included in the packages you mention - such as "Anchor Yale Bible
Dictionary" and "Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels". Resources which
you don't own are indicated by a "lock" symbol.

Hope
this helps but if you can clarify further what you are expecting and
the problems you are having we may be able to comment more fully.

Using Faithlife and Bible.Faithlife.com in 2013

Posted: 31 Dec 2012 09:04 PM PST

The New Year is right around the corner and many of us are getting ready to start our Faithlife groups and read through the Bible in a year. Faithlife works seamlessly across all the Logos
platforms. So as you get ready to begin your reading plans, we wanted
to help you get an excellent start on using Faithlife to optimize your
Bible study and keep you connected in 2013.

Stay connected and keep up with your reading plans and notes with just the web, by using Faithlife.com and Bible.Faithlife.com!

Here’s How:

1. After you login to Faithlife.com
click the Faithlife group you want to join. Make sure you are connected
to the Group Reading plan. Once connected, your first reading will show
up.

2. Click on the verse for your
first reading, which will take you to Bible.Faithlife.com. The Bible
will be on your left panel and the FSB commentary notes will be on your
right. On the top of left panel will be a “Start Reading” header:

3. As you scroll through the
reading, you may be directed to jump to other readings if there are
multiple scripture references in the day’s portion. Bible.Faithlife.com
makes this easy by providing you with the reference to the next section
for that day. Simply click on the reference.

4. Once you complete all your
readings for the day click on the “Mark Read” link to check off the
reading for the current day. When you get back to Faithlife, the next
day’s reading will show up under the “Group Reading” widget.

Tips and Tricks:

1. You can change your Bible
translation by clicking the drop-down arrow next to the title of the
Bible in the left column and choosing another translation:

2. If you own a Logos base package
all of your resources will be available on bible.faithlife.com. Just
click the title of the resource in the right column and search for the
resource.

It’s not too late to make a New Year’s resolution to feed your soul. Create a Faithlife group today and dig into the Word!

    Terry,

I'm finding it hard to follow your post.

I'm also having a hard time getting L5 and faithlife to sync at the moment though.

I had created a Community Note for use in one of my groups. When I went back to the marker, I got this:

    image

I don't understand why. The note is supposed to be tagged to Luke 3, and references Ecclesiastes instead.

Also Jane is not part of the group (actually I have no idea who she is).

As I was writing this post I went back to double check the note and the whole note has disappeared.

    image

I'm a bit confused about what's going on.

Hopefully someone from Logos can comment on this tomorrow.

    Peace & Blessings,

    Colin+

I'm even more confused about my own situation now. I just went to check faithlife.com

When I sort the group's notes by book I get:

    image

But two of these notes are missing when I sort the notes by most recent:

    image

I can appreciate a lag in the system between faithlife and L5, but why am I getting different results on faithlife itself?

    Peace & Blessings,

And finally all my Community Notes have appeared on both the "most recent" and "by book" sorting options. L5 is adding a resource and is indexing, so I'm unable to tell you if they appear in L5 yet.

    Peace & Blessings,

    Colin+
